Over the past decades, the number of patients with dry eye disease (DED) has increased dramatically. The incidence of DED is higher in Asia than in Europe and North America, suggesting the involvement of cultural or racial factors in DED etiology. Although many definitions of DED have been used, discrepancies exist between the various definitions of dry eye disease (DED) used across the globe. This article presents a clinical consensus on the definition of DED, as formulated in four meetings with global DED experts. The proposed new definition is as follows: “Dry eye is a multifactorial disease characterized by a persistently unstable and/or deficient tear film (TF) causing discomfort and/or visual impairment, accompanied by variable degrees of ocular surface epitheliopathy, inflammation and neurosensory abnormalities.” The key criteria for the diagnosis of DED are unstable TF, inflammation, ocular discomfort and visual impairment. This definition also recommends the assessment of ocular surface epitheliopathy and neurosensory abnormalities in each patient with suspected DED. It is easily applicable in clinical practice and should help practitioners diagnose DED consistently. This consensus definition of DED should also help to guide research and clinical trials that, to date, have been hampered by the lack of an established surrogate endpoint.  相似文献

We present experimental evidence that the noise figure (NF) and associated gain equal to those achieved with GaAs pseudomorphic high electron mobility transistors (GaAs p-HEMT's) can also be accomplished by ion implanted GaAs metal-semiconductor field-effect transistors (GaAs MESFET's). These measured noise figure results as a function of low temperature for GaAs MESFET's and p-HEMT's clearly suggest that the transport properties of the two-dimensional electron gas in HEMT's and p-HEMT's do not make a significant contribution to the noise reduction at high frequency operation of these devices  相似文献

This research examines the interdependence in time series wind speed data measured in the same location at four different heights. A multiple-equation system known as a vector autoregression is proposed for characterizing the time series dynamics of wind. Additionally, the recently developed method of generalized impulse response analysis provides insight into the cross-effects of the wind series and their responses to shocks. Findings are based on analysis of contemporaneous wind speed time histories taken at 13, 33, 70 and 160 ft above ground level with a sampling rate of 10 Hz. The results indicate that wind speeds measured at 70 ft was the most variable. Further, the turbulence persisted longer at the 70-ft measurement than at the other heights. The greatest interdependence is observed at 13 ft. Gusts at 160 ft led to the greatest persistence to an “own” shock and led to greatest persistence in the responses of the other wind series.  相似文献

From the coherent neutron scattering on dilute solid solutions of the ordinary polymer within the deuterated polymer, conformation parameters of polymer chains in amorphous solid states can be determined. In this way vitreous poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) has been investigated. The chains form unperturbed coils and the radius of gyration is very near to the corresponding value in dilute solutions of the same polymer in the low molecular θ-solvent butyl chloride. The same principle of measurement has been applied to concentrated solutions of PMMA in D-acetone. The solutions contained 50% polymer, the main part of which (98% and more) was deuterated so that the system was optically dilute for neutron scattering on H-PMMA. A monotonic dependence of the radius of gyration and of thermodynamic parameters on the concentration has been found. A first result is presented for a mixture of two polymers. A dilute solid dispersion of poly(α-methylstyrene) (PMS) within D-PMMA has been investigated at Mw = 250 000. The samples are limpid. The PMS forms micelles of 16 molecules (weight average). The radius of gyration of the micelles, rz is 170 Å.  相似文献

We present dynamic studies of surface reactions using video-Field Ion Microscopy (FIM) along with Pulsed Field Desorption Mass Spectrometry (PFDMS). Catalytic water formation is followed using rhodium and platinum 3D field emitter crystals for the oxidation of hydrogen with either oxygen (Rh) or NO (Pt). Strongly non-linear dynamics are observed with nanoscale spacial resolution. For both reactions quasi-oscillatory behaviour exists under certain conditions of temperatures and partial pressures. An influence of the probing electric field is observed and possibly essential in establishing oscillatory behaviour. Local chemical probing of selected surface areas with up to 400 atomic surface sites proves catalytic water formation to take place. Since water ions (H2O+/H3O+) cause image formation of the O2–H2 reaction on Rh, respective videos provide space-time resolved information on the catalytically active sites. Atom-probe data also reveal that the surface of the Rh sample reversibly switches from a metallic to an oxidized state during oscillations. As to the NO–H2 reaction on Pt, fast ignition phenomena are observed to precede wave fronts. After catalytic water formation, NO molecules diffuse into emptied areas and cause high image brightness. Depending on the size of the Pt crystal, the reaction may ignite in planes or kinked ledges along the <100> zone lines. Thus FIM provides clear experimental evidence that kinks are more reactive than steps in the catalytic NO + H2 reaction. Pt surface oxidation occurs and has probably been underestimated in previous FIM studies.  相似文献

Two holographic diffraction gratings with very similar parameters, designed for maximum performance inTM polarization, are investigated, their diffraction efficiency measured, an electron microscopic picture of their surface observed, and numerical simulation of light diffraction done with the surface roughness taken into account. It is demonstrated numerically that a small-scale roughness imposed on the grating surface could increase significantly both scattering and absorption from the surface, this influence being greater in the TM case. A very good coincidence between the numerical and experimental data is obtained in TE polarization, whereas in TM polarization only a qualitative agreement exists.  相似文献

This study introduces a novel gas-phase method for the synthesis of mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs). The method is a two-step templating approach by first forming silicon-coated carbon structures in a hybrid microwave-plasma/hot-wall reactor followed by an annealing step to produce mesoporous silica with distinct nanostructure and porosity. Two different (sacrificial) carbonaceous templates have been prepared (plasma reactor) and coated (hot-wall reactor), 2D few-layer graphene (FLG) flakes and soot-like fractal aggregates. Results show that the wall thickness of the porous silica structures can be adjusted by changing the concentration of the silicon precursor (monosilane). High monosilane concentrations, however, result in solid silica particles after annealing. Using soot-like particle templates permitted to control of the shell thickness of the hollow porous particles, while the FLG template results in ultrathin silica sheets after heat treatment. The pore volume and specific surface area increase up to 263 m2 g−1 and 0.6 cm3 g−1, respectively, by the formation of hollow porous particles. An adsorption study on carbamazepine reveals up to ≈86% removal. The gas-phase aerosol-based template method presented here offers scalability and versatility, and it is capable of producing MSNs with a controlled structure and porosity by modifying the carbonaceous templates.  相似文献

We propose a user-centric rule filtering method that allows to identify association rules that exhibit a certain user-specified temporal behavior with respect to rule evaluation measures. The method can considerably reduce the number of association rules that have to be assessed manually after a rule induction. This is especially necessary if the rule set contains many rules as it is the case for the task of finding rare patterns inside the data. For the proposed method, we will reuse former work on the visualization of association rules [M. Steinbrecher, R. Kruse, Visualization of possibilistic potentials, in: Foundations of Fuzzy Logic and Soft Computing, in: Lecture Notes in Comput. Sci., vol. 4529, Springer-Verlag, Berlin/Heidelberg, 2007, pp. 295–303] and use an extension of it to motivate and assess the presented filtering technique. We put the focus on rules that are induced from a data set that contains a temporal variable and build our approach on the requirement that temporally ordered sets of association rules are available, i.e., one set for every time frame. To illustrate this, we propose an ad-hoc learning method along the way. The actual rule filtering is accomplished by means of fuzzy concepts. These concepts use linguistic variables to partition rule-related domains of interest, such as the confidence change rate. The original rule sets are then matched against these user concepts and result in only those rules that match the respective concepts to a predefined extent. We provide empirical evidence by applying the proposed methods to hand-crafted as well as real-world data sets and critically discuss the current state and further prospects.  相似文献
