This study evaluated the effectiveness and efficiency of two food-grade multifunctional epoxies chain extenders (CE) in branching PLA and improving its foamability. Both CE grades were effective in branching PLA causing increased end mixing torque, shear, elongational viscosities, molecular weight but decreased crystallinity of poly(lactic acid) (PLA) with CE content, due to chain entanglements. CE with low epoxy equivalent weight (EEW) was more efficient than the counterpart with high EEW due to its high reactivity. Neat PLA foams showed poor cell morphology with areas without nucleated cells and had a low expansion, owing to its low elongational viscosity. By contrast, there was a considerable change in the morphology of the PLA foam structure caused by its branching. Chain-extended PLA foams had uniform cell morphology with a high void fraction (up to ~85%) and expansion ratio (an eightfold expansion over unfoamed PLA) due to their high elongational viscosities, suggesting that melt properties of branched PLA were appropriate for optimum cell growth and stabilization during foaming. Overall, CE with low EEW was the most effective grade and 0.25% the optimum content that provided appropriate melt viscosity to produce PLA foams with a homogeneous structure, fine cells, high void fraction, high volume expansion ratio, and cell-population density. 相似文献

The development of multilayer soft lithography methodology has seen polydimethysiloxane (PDMS) as the preferred material for the fabrication of microfluidic devices. However, the functionality of these PDMS microfluidic chips is often limited by the poor chemical resistance of PDMS to certain solvents. Here, we propose the use of a photocurable perfluoropolyether (PFPE), specifically FOMBLIN® MD40 PFPE, as a candidate material to provide a solvent-resistant buffer layer to make the device substantially impervious to chemically induced swelling. We first carried out a systematic study of the solvent resistance properties of FOMBLIN® MD40 PFPE as compared with PDMS. The comparison presented here demonstrates the superiority of FOMBLIN® MD40 PFPE over PDMS in this regard; moreover, the results permitted to categorize solvents in four different groups depending on their swelling ratio. We then present a step-by-step recipe for a novel fabrication process that uses multilayer lithography to construct a comprehensive solvent-resistant device with fluid and control channels integrated with a valve structure and also permitting easy establishment of outside connections. 相似文献

The availability of multi-photon intravital microscopy has recently allowed researchers to start to visualise the dynamic behaviour of cancer cells in vivo. This imaging has revealed that many cancer cells ranging from carcinoma to melanoma move in an amoeboid manner in order to invade surrounding tissue and escape from the primary tumour. This mode on cell motility is extremely rapid and does not require the activity of proteases to degrade the extra-cellular matrix (ECM). A visible light active and stable photoelectrode has been developed by depositing a passivating layer of ZnS QDs on CdS QDs sensitized hematite photoelectrode (Hematite‐CdS/ZnS) for PEC generation of hydrogen. Photoelectrochemical properties, in terms of stability and efficiency, have been investigated on the various hematite photoelectrodes sensitized with CdS QDs and CdS/ZnS QDs by varying number of SILAR cycles. I–V characteristics show that two layers of ZnS QDs deposited over three layers of CdS could enhance PEC response of hematite and efficiency by a factor of 3 and 11 respectively. Chronoamperometry measurement ensures that after adding a layer of ZnS QDs, CdS sensitized hematite film turns out to be a stable photoelectrode in the electrolyte. Prepared photoelectrodes have been characterized by XRD, SEM, HRTEM and UV–Vis spectrophotometer for various structural, morphological and optical properties to analyze PEC results. Mott–Schottky analysis and incident photon to current conversion efficiency (IPCE) measurements of sensitized hematite photoelectrode supported the improved PEC response of CdS/ZnS QDs sensitized hematite thin films. Development of robust dynamical systems and networks such as autonomous aircraft systems capable of accomplishing complex missions faces challenges due to the dynamically evolving uncertainties coming from model uncertainties, necessity to operate in a hostile cluttered urban environment, and the distributed and dynamic nature of the communication and computation resources. Model-based robust design is difficult because of the complexity of the hybrid dynamic models including continuous vehicle dynamics, the discrete models of computations and communications, and the size of the problem. We will overview recent advances in methodology and tools to model, analyze, and design robust autonomous aerospace systems operating in uncertain environment, with stress on efficient uncertainty quantification and robust design using the case studies of the mission including model-based target tracking and search, and trajectory planning in uncertain urban environment. To show that the methodology is generally applicable to uncertain dynamical systems, we will also show examples of application of the new methods to efficient uncertainty quantification of energy usage in buildings, and stability assessment of interconnected power networks. 相似文献

Light-handed regulation is discussed often in policy circles, but what it should mean technically has always been a bit vague. For cognitive radios to succeed in reducing the regulatory overhead, this has to change. For us, light-handed regulation means minimizing the mandates to be met at radio certification and relying instead on incentives to deter bad behavior. We put forth a specific technical framework in which the certification mandates are minimal - radios must modulate their transmitted waveform to embed an identity fingerprint, and radios must obey certain go-to-jail commands directed toward their identities. More specifically, the identity is represented by a temporal profile of taboo time slots in which transmission is impossible. The fraction of taboo slots represents the overhead of this approach and determines how reliably harmful interference can be attributed to the culprit(s) responsible. Meanwhile, the fraction of time that innocent radios spend in jail is the overhead for the punishment system. The analysis is carried out in the context of a real-time spectrum market, but is also applicable to opportunistic use. 相似文献

For the first time, a biomass electronic junction functioning as a conventional electronic diode inside green leaves of Vinka-rosa and Plumeria rubra mass structure has been experimentally predicted and studied. The experimental diode demonstrated appropriate conventional electronic diode characteristics. The predicted diode junctions were operated for forward and reverse dc voltage biases in the range of ±1 to 10 and 1 to 30?V respectively. The studies revealed a strong functional dependence on the water content of the green leaf. These studies are sequential to the very recently reported research work of Kosta et al. on bioelectronics and soilelectronics. Concept browsing interfaces can help educators and learners to locate and use learning resources that are aligned with recognized learning goals. The Strand Map Service enables users to navigate interactive visualizations of related learning goals and to request digital library resources aligned with learning goals. These interfaces are created using a programmatic Web service interface that dynamically generates interactive visual components. Preliminary findings suggest that these library interfaces appear to help users stay focused on the scientific content of their information discovery task, as opposed to focusing on the mechanics of searching. 相似文献
