The adsorption of methyl orange dye from aqueous solution onto penta-bismuth hepta-oxide nitrate, Bi(5)O(7)NO(3), synthesized by precipitation method, was studied in a batch adsorption system. The effects of operation parameters such as adsorbent dose, initial dye concentration, pH and temperature were investigated. The adsorption equilibrium and mechanism of adsorption was evaluated by Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm and different kinetic models, respectively. The results indicate that adsorption is highly dependent on all operation parameters. At optimum conditions, the adsorption capacity was found to be 18.9 mg/g. The adsorption data fits well with the Langmuir isotherm model indicating monolayer coverage of adsorbate molecules on the surface of Bi(5)O(7)NO(3). The kinetic studies show that the adsorption process is a second-order kinetic reaction. Although intra-particle diffusion limits the rate of adsorption, the multi-linearity plot of intra-particle model shows the importance of both film and intra-particle diffusion as the rate-limiting steps of the dye removal. Thermodynamic parameters show that the adsorption process is endothermic, spontaneous and favourable at high temperature.  相似文献

The effect of the addition of very small amount of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) on the resulting physicochemical properties of ZnO synthesized by ethylene glycol-hydrothermal method was studied. Significant change in particle size distribution and specific surface area can be observed even only 0.02% PVA (w/w) was added into the ethylene glycol (EG) solution, in which the median particle size distribution increased from 5 to 8 nm and at the same time the specific surface area is also increased to nearly 50%. Further addition of PVA resulted in the decrease of the specific surface area due to the formation of agglomeration and aggregation of particles as observed by FESEM study. This study shows that the presence of minute amount of polymer, PVA plays very crucial role in determining the resulting properties of the synthesized ZnO by EG-hydrothermal method.  相似文献

Zn- and Ca-doped ErBa2Cu3O7−δ were successfully prepared via coprecipitation method using metal acetates as the starting salts. The precipitated samples were calcined for 20 h at 900 °C and sintered at 920 °C for 24 h. All heat treatments were carried out under oxygen environment. Results show that there is a selectivity of the doping site depending on the ionic radius of the dopant. Furthermore, increase in the critical temperature, T c , was observed in 0.05 mole of calcium and zinc doped samples. The difference in ionic radius of the dopant led to the increase in porosity as the ionic radius decreases. On the other hand, structural distortion increased as the difference of ionic radius became larger.  相似文献

The paper evaluates noncorrosive and inexpensive materials, namely polypropylene sheet, fiberglass, and glass wool, as potential separator materials for electric double‐layer capacitor (EDLC) application. Using these materials as separators and the same activated carbon electrodes, properties of two‐electrode capacitors filled with aqueous sulfuric acid (H2SO4) were investigated by cyclic voltammetry (CV) as well as galvanostatic and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) measurements. Performance comparison of the tested capacitors with an identical capacitor with conventional cellulose separator was also carried out. As a benchmark, the noncorrosive‐separator‐based capacitors demonstrate comparable power and energy densities to those of a cellulose separator, with the highest specific capacitance of 131 F/g and lowest equivalent series resistance of 13 Ω for the glass wool separator. Application of such noncorrosive separators may realize the utilization of high‐concentration aqueous electrolytes, leading to higher rating EDLCs at lower cost compared to organic‐solution‐based capacitors. © 2014 Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan. Controlled release formulation of an herbicide, 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetate (24D) was developed by the virtue of the formation of organic–inorganic nanohybrid material and its ion exchange property. The inorganic Zn–Al layered double hydroxide (ZAL) was used as a matrix, hosting an active agent or a guest, 24D by self-assembly technique. The resulting material (ZAD) was subsequently used to study the release property of 24D into aqueous solutions containing chloride, carbonate as well as distilled water. The release of the guest 24D was found to be rapid initially followed by a more sustained release thereafter and this behavior was dependent on the type of anions and their concentrations in the release medium, the aqueous solution. The mechanism of release has been interpreted on the basis of the ion exchange process between the 24D anion intercalated into the interlamellae host and carbonate or chloride and/or hydroxyl anions in the aqueous solution.  相似文献

Layered hydroxides (LHs) have recently fascinated researchers due to their wide application in various fields. These inorganic nanoparticles, with excellent features as nanocarriers in drug delivery systems, have the potential to play an important role in healthcare. Owing to their outstanding ion-exchange capacity, many organic pharmaceutical drugs have been intercalated into the interlayer galleries of LHs and, consequently, novel nanodrugs or smart drugs may revolutionize in the treatment of diseases. SnS thin films were prepared by cathodic electrodeposition on ITO/glass and Ti substrates from a solution containing SnCl2 and thiosulphate ions. Cyclic voltammetry experiments were performed to elucidate the electrodic processes occurred when potentials were applied and to determine the optimum potential for electrodeposition. The photoactivity of the deposited films and their conduction types were evaluated using the photoelectrochemical technique. The bandgap energy and type of optical transitions were determined from optical absorbance data. Structural and compositional analysis were accomplished using X-ray diffractometry, electron dispersive analysis of X-ray, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Listeria monocytogenes has continuously become a significant threat to consumers worldwide. The use of chemical-derived preservatives that are commonly associated with safety and nutritional issues has prompted the use of natural-based preservatives as a better alternative. Many bacterial strains including Paenibacillus polymyxa Kp10 have been reported to produce various antimicrobial proteins and compounds that are considered more natural. However, their stability in various physicochemical conditions should be examined before being applied in various types of food. In this study, the stability of four previously identified antilisterial proteins in P. polymyxa Kp10 upon exposure to several physicochemical conditions was examined. More than 80% residual antilisterial activity is conserved upon heat and proteinase K treatment. But, sensitivity to 24 h trypsin digestion has been observed. P1 and P2 proteins (histone-like DNA binding proteins HU) were sensitive to alkaline pH (pH 10-12) as compared with other proteins. More than 70% and 97% residual antilisterial activity were recovered after incubation in raw beef homogenates and simulated meat gravy model, respectively. However, the antilisterial activity of most proteins was highly compromised in chicken and salmon meat homogenates, and UHT cow milk. Inoculation of these proteins into Listeria-contaminated simulated meat gravy showed that all proteins exerted a bactericidal action against L. monocytogenes. P1 and P2 shared almost similar antilisterial activity rates, while P4 was the most potent antilisterial protein. The findings in this study could provide important preliminary data for future applications of these proteins as preservative in food products especially beef-based meat products.  相似文献
