Stress-sensitivity mapping for surface acoustic waves on quartz   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
A model is presented, relating the velocity shifts of surface acoustic waves (SAW) to the six tensor components of quasistatic stresses. Stress sensitivity is then defined through six independent coefficients, whatever the origin of the stress (direct external forces, thermoelastic stresses) might be. These coefficients, depending on crystal anisotropy, are computed for different cut angles and propagation directions of quartz crystal, and represented as a contour-line mapping. The determination of SAW quartz cuts compensated for both planar isotropic stresses and first-order temperature effects make it possible to define a family of quartz cuts with potentially low stress and temperature sensitivities for oscillator applications.  相似文献

Research in neuropsychology suggests that the etiology of a neurologic injury determines the neuropathological and neuropsychological changes. This study compared neuropsychological outcome in subjects who had traumatic brain injury (TBI) with subjects who had anoxic brain injury (ABI), who were matched for age, gender, and ventricle-to-brain ratio. There were no group differences for morphologic or neuropsychological measures. Both groups exhibited impaired memory, attention, and executive function, as well as slowed mental processing speed. Intelligence correlated with whole brain volume, and measures of memory correlated with hippocampal atrophy. There was no unique contribution of hippocampal atrophy on neuropsychological outcome between the groups. In the absence of localized lesions, the amount of neural tissue loss, rather than etiology, may be the critical factor in neuropsychological outcome. In traumatically brain-injured (TBI) patients (n?=?83), memory performance was examined on the Warrington Recognition Memory Test, Rey-Osterrieth Complex Figure, and the Logical Memory and Visual Reproduction subtests of the Wechsler Memory Scale-Revised in relationship to time postinjury and structural changes based on MRI volumetry, including hippocampus volume. Significant trauma-induced changes were observed, including hippocampal atrophy. Structure-function relationships generally became significant only after 90 days postinjury. Memory tended to relate more to the degree of hippocampal atrophy, particularly left hippocampus, than to nonspecific indicators such as the temporal horns or the ventricle-to-brain ratio. A stronger relationship with left versus right hippocampus was evident for measures of verbal and supposedly nonverbal memory. OBJECTIVES: To determine whether biopsy-detectable transition zone tumors are more common in black than in white men with suspected Stage T1c and T2 prostate cancer. METHODS: We performed a prospective study of transition zone prostate biopsy (TZ biopsy) in 1 78 black and 261 white men who had not undergone previous prostate biopsy and in 61 black and 65 white men who had undergone one benign sextant peripheral zone prostate biopsy (PZ biopsy). RESULTS: The mean age of the 239 black and 326 white study patients was 68.6+/-7.4 and 67.2+/-7.2 years, respectively (P = 0.02), the mean prostate-specific antigen (PSA) was 8.4+/-7.4 and 6.4+/-5.4 ng/mL, respectively (P = 0.003), and the mean PSA density was 0.20+/-0.23 and 0.16+/-0.16 ng/mL/mL, respectively (P = 0.006). Overall, cancer was diagnosed by TZ biopsy only in 7 black men (3%) and in no white men (0%) (P = 0.003). However, cancer detection with a TZ biopsy only was not significantly different in the black and white men when controlled for age, PSA, or PSA density (P>0.90). A TZ biopsy only detected cancer in 1% of patients who had not undergone prior PZ biopsy and in 2% of patients who had undergone prior PZ biopsy. Of the seven cancers detected with TZ biopsy, six (86%) had a Gleason score of 2 to 6. CONCLUSIONS: Prostate cancer detection with a TZ biopsy only is not common and when controlled for confounding variables is the same in black and white men. The preferential use of TZ biopsies in black men is not warranted, and the low diagnostic yield argues against routine use of the biopsy technique in men of either race.  相似文献

The effects on Rayleigh wave velocity of strains and displacement gradients induced by isotropic in-plane stresses are modelled for a thin plate of quartz crystal. The stress sensitivity of SAW devices is calculated as a function of the quartz anisotropy. Comparison with loci of zero first-order temperature coefficients leads to the expectation of quartz cuts for SAW oscillator applications with low sensitivity to stress and temperature.  相似文献

Over the past two decades, continuous flow analysis (CFA) systems have been refined and widely used to measure aerosol constituents in polar and alpine ice cores in very high-depth resolution. Here we present a newly designed system consisting of sodium, ammonium, dust particles, and electrolytic meltwater conductivity detection modules. The system is optimized for high-resolution determination of transient signals in thin layers of deep polar ice cores. Based on standard measurements and by comparing sections of early Holocene and glacial ice from Greenland, we find that the new system features a depth resolution in the ice of a few millimeters which is considerably better than other CFA systems. Thus, the new system can resolve ice strata down to 10 mm thickness and has the potential of identifying annual layers in both Greenland and Antarctic ice cores throughout the last glacial cycle.  相似文献

Proxies and measurement techniques for mineral dust in Antarctic ice cores   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
To improve quantitative interpretation of ice core aeolian dust records, a systematic methodological comparison was made. This involved methods for water-insoluble particle counting (Coulter counter and laser-sensing particle detector), soluble ion analysis (ion chromatography and continuous flow analysis), elemental analysis (inductively coupled plasma mass spectroscopy at pH 1 and after full acid digestion), and water-insoluble elemental analysis (proton induced X-ray emission). Antarctic ice core samples covering the last deglaciation from the EPICA Dome C (EDC) and the EPICA Dronning Maud Land (EDML) cores were used. All methods correlate very well among each other, but the ratios of glacial age to Holocene concentrations, which are typically a factor approximately 100, differ between the methods by up to a factor of 2 with insoluble particles showing the largest variability. The recovery of ICP-MS measurements depends on the digestion method and is differentfor different elements and during different climatic periods. EDC and EDML samples have similar dust composition, which suggests a common dust source or a common mixture of sources for the two sites. The analyzed samples further reveal a change of dust composition during the last deglaciation.  相似文献

Hydroborate-based solid electrolytes have recently been successfully employed in high voltage, room temperature all-solid-state sodium batteries. The transfer to analogous lithium systems has failed up to now due to the lower conductivity of the corresponding lithium compounds and their high cost. Here LiB11H14 nido-hydroborate as a cost-effective building block and its high-purity synthesis is introduced. The crystal structures of anhydrous LiB11H14 as well as of LiB11H14-based mixed-anion solid electrolytes are solved and high ionic conductivities of 1.1 × 10−4 S cm−1 for Li2(B11H14)(CB11H12) and 1.1 × 10−3 S cm−1 for Li3(B11H14)(CB9H10)2 are obtained, respectively. LiB11H14 exhibits an oxidative stability limit of 2.6 V versus Li+/Li and the proposed decomposition products are discussed based on density functional theory calculations. Strategies are discussed to improve the stability of these compounds by modifying the chemical structure of the nido-hydroborate cage. Galvanostatic cycling in symmetric cells with two lithium metal electrodes shows a small overpotential increase from 22.5 to 30 mV after 620 h (up to 0.5 mAh cm−2), demonstrating that the electrolyte is compatible with metallic anodes. Finally, the Li2(B11H14)(CB11H12)  electrolyte is employed in a proof-of-concept half cell with a TiS2 cathode with a capacity retention of 82% after 150 cycles at C/5.  相似文献
