Application of Polyimide-based Microfluidic Devices on Acid-catalyzed Hydrolysis of Dimethoxypropane
Microfluidic devices intensify transport phenomena and can improve chemical processes. New manufacturing processes and materials are perpetually developed due to constantly growing interest in process intensification. In this contribution, the authors present the design and application of polyimide-foil-based microfluidic mixing devices manufactured by reactive ion etching. As appropriate model reaction system, acid-catalyzed 2,2-dimethoxypropane (DMP) hydrolysis was chosen and investigated in three different mixing structure with varying flow rate. Energy dissipation rates were calculated to estimate mixing performances. The results show good mixing quality for Reynolds numbers between 10 and 100 and similar mixing times scales for all investigated microstructured mixers. 相似文献

Monitoring the structural health and integrity of coated components is of vital importance to increase their lifetime and the overall sustainability of the targeted applications. Here, the temporal oxidation behavior of TiN thin films is tracked using in situ sheet resistance measurements. Based on correlative film morphology, structure, and local composition data, it is evident that observed resistance changes are caused by oxidation of TiN. Thickness measurements of the remaining TiN under the oxide layer are in very good agreement with thicknesses deduced from in situ sheet resistance measurements. Hence, the in situ measured sheet resistance is an autonomous self‐reporting property useful for tracking the temporal oxidation behavior of TiN coatings. 相似文献

The objectives of the presented work were to investigate films based on polylactic acid (PLA) and polyethylene glycol (PEG) in order to improve ductility and weldability of PLA films. The effect of plasticizer amount on the thermal, rheological, and mechanical properties of PLA plasticized films was investigated. The PEG content does affect the glass transition and the cold crystallization temperature of PLA in blends, while the melting temperature was not affected by the addition of PEG. The complex viscosity of the neat PLA granules and of plasticized films showed strong temperature and angular velocity dependence. The Young's modulus and tensile strength of plasticized films were improved with increasing plasticizer concentration, while the elongation at break stays rather constant. Plasticized PLA films were furthermore heat welded. These investigations showed that plasticized PLA films can be welded by heat welding. In accordance with a novel strategy for generating the 2‐benzazepine scaffold by connecting C6–C1 and C3–N building blocks, a set of 5‐phenylsulfanyl‐ and 5‐benzyl‐substituted tetrahydro‐2‐benzazepines was synthesized and pharmacologically evaluated. Key steps of the synthesis were the Heck reaction, the Stetter reaction, a reductive cyclization, and the introduction of diverse N substituents at the end of the synthesis. High σ1 affinity was achieved for 2‐benzazepines with linear or branched alk(en)yl residues containing at least an n‐butyl substructure. The butyl‐ and 4‐fluorobenzyl‐substituted derivatives, (±)‐5‐benzyl‐2‐butyl‐2,3,4,5‐tetrahydro‐1H‐2‐benzazepine ( 19 b ) and (±)‐5‐benzyl‐2‐(4‐fluorobenzyl)‐2,3,4,5‐tetrahydro‐1H‐2‐benzazepine ( 19 m ), show high selectivity over more than 50 other relevant targets, including the σ2 subtype and various binding sites of the N‐methyl‐D ‐aspartate (NMDA) receptor. In the Irwin screen, 19 b and 19 m showed clean profiles without inducing considerable side effects. Compounds 19 b and 19 m did not reveal significant analgesic and cognition‐enhancing activity. Bats fly using a thin wing membrane composed of compliant, anisotropic skin. Wing membrane skin deforms dramatically as bats fly, and its three-dimensional configurations depend, in large part, on the mechanical behaviour of the tissue. Large, macroscopic elastin fibres are an unusual mechanical element found in the skin of bat wings. We characterize the fibre orientation and demonstrate that elastin fibres are responsible for the distinctive wrinkles in the surrounding membrane matrix. Uniaxial mechanical testing of the wing membrane, both parallel and perpendicular to elastin fibres, is used to distinguish the contribution of elastin and the surrounding matrix to the overall membrane mechanical behaviour. We find that the matrix is isotropic within the plane of the membrane and responsible for bearing load at high stress; elastin fibres are responsible for membrane anisotropy and only contribute substantially to load bearing at very low stress. The architecture of elastin fibres provides the extreme extensibility and self-folding/self-packing of the wing membrane skin. We relate these findings to flight with membrane wings and discuss the aeromechanical significance of elastin fibre pre-stress, membrane excess length, and how these parameters may aid bats in resisting gusts and preventing membrane flutter. 相似文献

The influence of graphitization and composition of carbide‐derived carbon (CDC) monoliths on the electrical and thermal conductivity was investigated. Carbon monoliths with varying porosities were synthesized employing biomorphous macroporous TiC and SiC as precursors. Graphitization was carried out in situ during high‐temperature chlorination with and without addition of nickel, iron, and cobalt chloride to the carbide. The graphitized monoliths showed improved properties. The results demonstrate that despite graphitic carbon also glass‐like carbon, stemming from the carbide synthesis, increases the thermal and electrical conductivity significantly. 相似文献

The terminations of the Central Solenoid (CS) modules are connected to the bus extensions by joints located outside the CS in the gap between the CS and torodial field (TF) assemblies. These joints have very strict space limitations. Low resistance is a common requirement for all ITER joints. In addition, the CS bus joints will experience and must be designed to withstand significant variation in the magnetic field of several tenths of a Tesla per second during initiation of plasma. The joint resistance is specified to be less than 4 nΩ.The joints also have to be soldered in the field and designed with the possibility to be installed and dismantled in order to allow cold testing in the cold test facility. We have developed coaxial joints that meet these requirements and have demonstrated the feasibility to fabricate and assemble them in the vertical configuration. We introduced a coupling cylinder with superconducting strands soldered to the surface of the cable that can be installed in the ITER assembly hall and at the cold test facility. This cylinder serves as a transition area between the CS module and the bus extension.We made two racetrack samples and tested four bus joints in our Joint Test Apparatus. Resistance of the bus joints was measured by a decay method and by a microvoltmeter; the value of the current was measured by the Hall probes. This measurement method was verified in the previous tests. The resistance of the joints varied insignificantly from 1.5 to 2 nΩ.One of the challenges associated with a soldered joint is the inability to use corrosive chemicals that are difficult to clean. In this paper, we identify two cases in which the proposition for calculating time window penalties presented in Nagata, Y., Bräysy, O. and Dullaert, W. A penalty-based edge assembly memetic algorithm for the vehicle routing problem with time windows, Computers & Operations Research 2010;37(4): 724–37 yields incorrect results. We derive the corrected proposition and use numerical studies to show that a significant proportion of the evaluations performed by a Tabu Search for VRPTW falls under the two incorrect cases. Moreover, we demonstrate that the incorrect time window handling has a significant negative impact on the solution quality of the Tabu Search. 相似文献
