In the speech synthesis model presented in this paper, voiced speech is synthesized as the sum of sinusoidally modulated two FM sinusoids corresponding to the first and second formants. Each FM signal is generated such that its amplitude is equal to the formant amplitude, its carrier frequency to the formant frequency or its linear combination, its modulation frequency to the pitch, and its modulation index to one fifth of the carrier to modulation frequency ratio. Unvoiced speech is generated by shifting the center frequency of a low-pass noise with a bandwidth of 1 KHz, to the frequency where the energy of the unvoiced speech is concentrated. The drawbacks of this scheme are that the pitch and the formant frequencies of the FM signals may deviate up to 40% and 9%, respectively, and spurious formants may occur. A hardware implementation can be accomplished by driving a linear analog circuitry which can simply be integrated on a single chip, by a digital computer which supplies voltages at every T = 5 ms corresponding to seven parameter values. Examples of the signals and spectrograms of synthesized speech obtained by both synthesis by analysis and synthesis by rule are given along with a set of rules for text-to-speech synthesis of Turkish. It is observed that the speech synthesized by analysis loses the speaker's identity but it is highly intelligible, while understanding the speech synthesized by rules requires a training period.  相似文献

Estrogenicity of river water is highly variable and it is difficult to obtain an average measure of the estrogenicity. Consequently it is difficult to tie the estrogenic effects observed in fish to their level of exposure to estrogens. To get a better handle on average estrogenic exposure we tested a recently developed passive sampling system (polar organic chemical integrative sampler, POCIS). In addition, we investigated the bioaccumulation of estrogens in caged brown trout and measured plasma vitellogenin in males as a bioindicator of estrogenic effects. We developed a mini-caging method to suit the hydrological conditions in small rivers and to improve upon the often poor survival of salmonids in caging trials. POCISs were positioned upstream and downstream of 5 sewage treatment works' discharges and left on site for 3 weeks (as were the caged fish), during which period 3 water grab samples were taken at each site. Concentrations of estrogens were determined using a yeast-based reporter gene assay and chemical analysis. Results from grab sampling, passive sampling, and bioaccumulation were correlated; however, plasma vitellogenin concentrations were elevated at only 1 of 5 sites. POCISs provide an integrated and biologically meaningful measure of estrogenicity in thatthey accumulate estrogens in a pattern similar to that of brown trout. Mini-caging appears a significant methodological advance; no fish were lost, moreover, all fish survived in excellent health.  相似文献

Remarkable improvements have occurred recently in the maintenance management of physical assets and productive systems, so that less wastages of energy and resources occur. The requirement for optimal preventive maintenance, using, for instance, just-in-time (JIT) and total quality-management (TQM) techniques, has given rise to what has been called the total productive-maintenance (TPM) approach. This study explores the ways in which Nigerian manufacturing industries can implement TPM as a strategy and culture for improving its performance and suggests self-auditing and bench-marking as desirable prerequisites before TPM implementation.  相似文献

A modular method for functionalization of nonwoven fabrics was developed using a two-step process. In the first step, the fabrics were grafted with a linker molecule, 10-undecenoyl chloride, via esterification, followed by attachment of a functional material under UV irradiation. Perfluorodecanethiol and 3-mercaptopropionic acid (MPA) were connected to the linker-modified fabrics using thiol-ene click chemistry. Perfluorodecanethiol modified fabrics exhibited hydrophobicity with water contact angle of about 140° while MPA-modified fabrics were able to lower the pH of a solution by about 1.6. We additionally demonstrated the possibility to connect functional polymers to the linker-modified fabrics by radical graft polymerization of acrylic acid; this produced a thin layer of the polymer on the surface of the fabric. Fabrics modified with poly(acrylic acid) exhibited increased hydrophilicity with water contact angle of 0° for both cotton and viscose-polyester fabrics, while the water absorption capability for polypropylene fabrics increased from about 50 to 1200%.  相似文献

The present study shows the effect of porosity on the dynamic elastic moduli of partially dense yttria (Y2O3). This article reveals that the sound velocities and the elastic moduli of the porous samples depend not only on density, but also upon the reciprocal of the initial particle and agglomerate size. These findings explain some of the variation in the elastic moduli found especially, but not only, for highly porous yttria.  相似文献

Passive samplers for polar organic compounds often use a polyethersulfone (PES) membrane to retain the particulate sorbent material (e.g., in a POCIS; polar organic chemical integrative sampler) or to reduce the sampling rate and thus extend the kinetic regime (e.g., in a Chemcatcher). The transport kinetics over the PES membrane are evaluated here in a short-term (6 days) and a long-term (32 days) experiment with POCIS and Chemcatchers. Passive samplers were placed in a channel with flowing river water that was spiked with 22 organic chemicals including pharmaceuticals, pesticides and biocides; with logK(ow) (logarithmic octanol-water partitioning coefficient) values between -2.6 and 3.8. Samplers were removed at intervals and membranes and sorbent material were extracted and analyzed with LC-MS/MS. Uptake kinetics of the compounds fell between two extremes: (1) charged chemicals and chemicals of low hydrophobicity did not accumulate in PES and rapidly transferred to the sorbent (e.g., diclofenac) and (2) more hydrophobic chemicals accumulated strongly in the PES and appeared in the sorbent after a lag-phase (e.g., diazinon and diuron). Sorption kinetics were modeled with a three-compartment first-order kinetic model to determine uptake and elimination rate constants and partitioning coefficients. Water PES partitioning coefficients fitted with the model correlated well with experimentally determined values and logK(ow). Sampling rates of Chemcatcher (0.02-0.10 L/d) and POCIS (0.02-0.30 L/d) showed similar patterns and correlated well. Thus the samplers are interchangeable in practical applications. Longer lag-phases may pose problems when calculating time-weighted average aqueous concentrations for short passive sampling windows and for a correct integrative sampling of fluctuating concentrations.  相似文献

Total anomalous pulmonary venous connection has been one of the more challenging congenital heart defects in newborns and young infants despite improvements in surgical technique, cardiac anesthesia, neonatal myocardial preservation, and postoperative care. Since 1981, 30 patients with total anomalous pulmonary venous connection have undergone primary total correction. Mean age at operation was 28 +/- 6 days and mean weight, 3.3 +/- 0.7 kg. Essential features of the surgical approach in these small patients included early surgical intervention, profound hypothermia with total circulatory arrest, cardioplegic myocardial preservation, and a wide posterior anastomosis. Operative mortality was 13% +/- 6%. All four deaths were in patients having emergency operation within 24 hours of the surgical consult and requiring ventilator support preoperatively. The mean follow-up is 47 +/- 7 months. There have been two late deaths, and the 7-year survival rate is 79% +/- 8%. There have been two reoperations, and 91% +/- 6% of the patients are reoperation free at 7 years. Only 1 of the 24 surviving patients is symptomatic. Growth in survivors is closely monitored. The height growth percentile is less than 5% in 15% +/- 8% of survivors and the weight growth percentile, less than 5% in 17 +/- 8%. During the past decade, with a consistent surgical approach to neonates and infants with total anomalous pulmonary venous connection, it has been possible to achieve low early mortality, low attrition, and excellent late results.  相似文献

A developing society needs to adapt to change and foster creativity. In the pursuit of continual improvement (e.g., reducing fossil-fuel consumption and waste, better service performance, greater availability and improved reliability), implementing wise maintenance-schedules is essential for contemporary organisations. Several studies of a wide range of Nigerian industries indicate that indigenous low availability and low productivity are endemic. The resulting closure of some of these industries has triggered off a realisation of the strategic challenges in maintenance management. In addition, the increasingly-competitive business environment in Nigeria has raised the strategic importance of maintenance functions, especially in organisations with significant investments in physical assets. Five strategic aspects of maintenance management have been identified, namely: maintenance methodology; support processes; organisation and work structuring; comparable culture; and general management policy. Three factors that permeate these dimensions are wise leadership, excellent communications and an understanding of the human factors involved.  相似文献

We retrospectively studied 369 cases of knee osteoarthritis in 240 patients seen at the Cocody Teaching Hospital in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, from November 1984 through March 1989. There were 126 cases (34.14%) of patellofemoral osteoarthritis, 104 cases (28.18%) of femorotibial osteoarthritis and 139 cases (37.66%) of global knee osteoarthritis (defined as patellofemoral and femorotibial osteoarthritis in the same joint). There was a marked female bias (80.42% of patients). Onset was earlier in patellofemoral osteoarthritis (51.25 years) than in femorotibial osteoarthritis (57.85 years). Half the patients (51.25%) were housewives. The Akan and Mandé ethnic groups contributed 61.54% and 33.03% of patients, respectively. Obesity was present in 19.04% of cases of patellofemoral osteoarthritis and in 10.57% of cases of femorotibial osteoarthritis. Of the patients with femorotibial osteoarthritis, 20.20% had a history of arthritis of the knee and of those with global knee osteoarthritis, 12.23% reported a prior injury to the knee. Varus deformity was found in 24.03% and valgus deformity in 19.23% of the patients with femorotibial osteoarthritis.  相似文献

A series of 3-amino- and 3-alkylamino-2-deoxy-beta-D-ribo- and beta-D-arabino-glycosides of 4'-demethylepipodophyllotoxin have been synthesized by means of an improved trimethylsilyliodide procedure for the podophyllotoxin-4'-demethylepipodophyllotoxin conversion, an efficient and high yielding synthesis of silyl glycoside donors of 3-azido-2,3-dideoxy-beta-D-ribo- and beta-D-arabino-hexopyranosides and stereoselective glycosylations. In vitro evaluation of cytotoxic effects against murine L1210 leukemia critically demonstrates the essential role played by a 4,6-acetal for biological activity. Among the most cytotoxic compounds, 3-amino-2,3-dideoxy- and 3-N, N-(dimethylamino)-2,3-dideoxy etoposide analogues, 17 and 27-29 are at least as potent as etoposide on the in vivo P388 (iv/ip) murine leukemia models. However, surprisingly enough, none of these compounds inhibits the human DNA topoisomerases I or II or binds to tubulin to prevent its polymerization and microtubule assembly. Therefore, their mechanism of action remains to be cleared up.  相似文献
