Excessive energy intake may evoke complex biochemical processes characterized by inflammation, oxidative stress, and impairment of mitochondrial function that represent the main factors underlying noncommunicable diseases. Because cow milk is widely used for human nutrition and in food industry processing, the nutritional quality of milk is of special interest with respect to human health. In our study, we analyzed milk produced by dairy cows fed a diet characterized by a high forage:concentrate ratio (high forage milk, HFM). In view of the low n-6:n-3 ratio and high content of conjugated linoleic acid of HFM, we studied the effects of this milk on lipid metabolism, inflammation, mitochondrial function, and oxidative stress in a rat model. To this end, we supplemented for 4 wk the diet of male Wistar rats with HFM and with an isocaloric amount (82 kJ, 22 mL/d) of milk obtained from cows fed a diet with low forage:concentrate ratio, and analyzed the metabolic parameters of the animals. Our results indicate that HFM may positively affect lipid metabolism, leptin:adiponectin ratio, inflammation, mitochondrial function, and oxidative stress, providing the first evidence of the beneficial effects of HFM on rat metabolism.  相似文献

Abstract

In the era of fighting wastes and paying close attention to sustainability and new protein sources, legumes, pseudo-cereals and milling by-products deserve all the efforts for increasing their consumption. Even with obvious peculiarities, a common trait characterizes these heterogeneous matrixes: unquestionable nutritional and functional value combined with some technological, sensory and/or anti-nutritional weaknesses, which unfortunately limit the exploitation and consumption. With the perspective of their use to fortify staple baked goods, we reviewed the main technological, nutritional and functional features of various legumes and pseudo-cereals, and milling by-products. Notwithstanding the potential of other technological solutions, we reported numerous evidences that qualified the sourdough fermentation as the most sustainable and powerful process to exploit the technological, nutritional and functional features of these matrixes and to limit or eliminate weak attributes. Sourdough fermentations tailored for specific matrixes allowed the fortification of staple baked goods with abundant levels of legumes, pseudo-cereals or milling by-products while keeping high consumer acceptance.  相似文献

Avocado industry produces enormous by-products and represents an important source of raw material in food and non-food applications. This review aims to focus the attention on the valorisation of avocado wastes recycling to produce different materials with important industrial and environmental impacts. In fact, peels and seeds can be reused in food and cosmetic fields due to the presence of bioactive ingredients such as polyphenols; thanks to their antioxidant and antinflammatory activities. In addition, both peels and seeds can be reused in the production of carbonaceous materials with important consequences for environmental pollution in the removal of contaminants from water. Interesting applications of avocado wastes in photocatalysis and biofuel production are also discussed. All the utilisations attest the great potential of recycling avocado by-products, a little known resource.  相似文献

Plant specialized metabolites (SMs) play an important role in the interaction with the environment and are part of the plant defense response. These natural products are volatile, semi-volatile and non-volatile compounds produced from common building blocks deriving from primary metabolic pathways and rapidly evolved to allow a better adaptation of plants to environmental cues. Specialized metabolites include terpenes, flavonoids, alkaloids, glucosinolates, tannins, resins, etc. that can be used as phytochemicals, food additives, flavoring agents and pharmaceutical compounds. This review will be focused on Mediterranean crop plants as a source of SMs, with a special attention on the strategies that can be used to modulate their production, including abiotic stresses, interaction with beneficial soil microorganisms and novel genetic approaches.  相似文献

Chitosan (CHT) is a non-toxic and inexpensive compound obtained by deacetylation of chitin, the main component of the exoskeleton of arthropods as well as of the cell walls of many fungi. In agriculture CHT is used to control numerous diseases on various horticultural commodities but, although different mechanisms have been proposed, the exact mode of action of CHT is still unknown. In sycamore (Acer pseudoplatanus L.) cultured cells, CHT induces a set of defense/stress responses that includes production of H2O2 and nitric oxide (NO). We investigated the possible signaling role of these reactive molecules in some CHT-induced responses by means of inhibitors of production and/or scavengers. The results show that both reactive nitrogen and oxygen species are not only a mere symptom of stress conditions but are involved in the responses induced by CHT in sycamore cells. In particular, NO appears to be involved in a cell death form induced by CHT that shows apoptotic features like DNA fragmentation, increase in caspase-3-like activity and release of cytochrome c from the mitochondrion. On the contrary, reactive oxygen species (ROS) appear involved in a cell death form induced by CHT that does not show these apoptotic features but presents increase in lipid peroxidation.  相似文献

The Low-Affinity Nerve Growth Factor Receptor (LNGFR), also known as CD271, is a member of the tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily. The CD271 cell surface marker defines a subset of multipotential mesenchymal stromal cells and may be used to isolate and enrich cells derived from bone marrow aspirate. In this study, we compare the proliferative and differentiation potentials of CD271+ and CD271 mesenchymal stromal cells. Mesenchymal stromal cells were isolated from bone marrow aspirate and adipose tissue by plastic adherence and positive selection. The proliferation and differentiation potentials of CD271+ and CD271 mesenchymal stromal cells were assessed by inducing osteogenic, adipogenic and chondrogenic in vitro differentiation. Compared to CD271+, CD271 mesenchymal stromal cells showed a lower proliferation rate and a decreased ability to give rise to osteocytes, adipocytes and chondrocytes. Furthermore, we observed that CD271+ mesenchymal stromal cells isolated from adipose tissue displayed a higher efficiency of proliferation and trilineage differentiation compared to CD271+ mesenchymal stromal cells isolated from bone marrow samples, although the CD271 expression levels were comparable. In conclusion, these data show that both the presence of CD271 antigen and the source of mesenchymal stromal cells represent important factors in determining the ability of the cells to proliferate and differentiate.  相似文献

Core cross-linked amphiphilic star-block copolymers were prepared by hydrolysis of the outer shell of star-block copolymers prepared using copper mediated atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). In an arm-first approach, linear poly(tert-butyl methacrylate) macroinitiators (PtBMA-Cl) were extended with styrene to yield PtBMA-b-PS-Cl and then cross-linked with divinylbenzene (DVB) in order to yield (PtBMA-b-PS)arms-PDVBcore star-block copolymers. Then, PMAA-b-PS block and (PMAA-PS)arms-PDVBcore star-block copolymers were obtained by hydrolysis of the PtBMA blocks in both linear and cross-linked copolymers, as confirmed by 1H NMR analyses. The amphiphilic character of these copolymers was confirmed by solubilisation in water. Several factors affecting the polymer aggregation and solubility such as the length, the composition of the arms and the catalyst used were studied. An acrylate analogue, that is, (PAA-b-PS)arms-PDVBcore, was also prepared for comparison purposes. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) were used to elucidate the morphology and the thermal behaviour of the star-block copolymers.  相似文献

Pulses of shear-mode ultrasound (center frequency 10 MHz) are reflected from the surface of a series of vegetable and synthetic high-viscosity calibration oils at a range of temperatures (5–50°C). For all samples and temperatures there is a single negative correlation between the magnitude of the echo from the interface between the delay-line and the sample and the viscosity of the sample. Similar experiments with longitudinal ultrasonic waves show the amount of sound reflected decreased with increasing viscosity, but there is no single correlation for all samples.  相似文献

Biogenic amines are contaminants naturally present in wines. Their occurrence is influenced by several factors including oenological and agricultural practices, grape variety, and geographical origin. For these reasons, they have been chosen as marker to characterize and classify 56 Italian red wines belonging to four protected designations of origin (PDO) from Southern Italy. Principal component analysis and cluster analysis were applied on data obtained by HPLC/RF in order to highlight the natural grouping of samples. Afterward, linear discriminant analysis and partial least squares were used to classify the wines according to their PDO. Biogenic amines are demonstrated to be a reliable and useful marker for the characterization and classification of the four Southern Italian PDOs investigated. Both the linear discriminant analysis (LDA) and the partial least squares discriminant analysis (PLS-DA) achieved 100 % of wines correctly classified and predicted. Therefore, the determination of these compounds in red wines can play an important role in wine quality assessment, by providing information for the prevention of potential detrimental effects on health and for the characterization of PDO labeled wines.  相似文献
