The State and Prospects of Molding Based on Aqueous Slip of Inorganic Materials

Methods for accelerating molding of large-sized thick-walled (d _w = 16 – 20 mm) articles based on aqueous slip of inorganic materials (namely, quartz glass and lithium-aluminosilicate glass) are analyzed. The most promising is the method of electrophoretic molding of ceramics that shows good results in molding articles from quartz glass slip. The possibility of applying this method to ceramics based on lithium-aluminosilicate glass is yet to be investigated. The choice of material and design for the electrodes is another subject for investigation, since the authors have encountered the problem of articles sticking to the electrode surfaces.     

Development of a Mold Equipment for Electrophoretic Shaping of Ceramic Products

A brief review of the previous studies aimed at the development of techniques for fabrication of large-sized, thick-walled, complex-profiled ceramic components from aqueous slips of inorganic materials is given.     

Effect of skin on the lining resistance of a rotary kiln burning dolomites

Conclusions A decisive influence is exerted on the resistance of the lining of a rotary kiln by the skin. For the formation of a protective layer (skin) it is necessary to select fractions of burnt dolomite so that only the finest parts (up to 10 mm) are subjected to strong sintering and attachment to the working surface of the lining. After the formation of the skin it is necessary to reduce the furnace charge of the easily sintered dolomite by 10–12%.Translated from Ogneupory, No. 6, pp. 17–19, June, 1973.     

A New Direction in the Field of Synthesis of High‐Thermostability, Radiotransparent Glass‐Ceramics

The characteristics and technological possibilities of various classes of radiotransparent materials are considered. On the basis of data analysis a new direction in the synthesis of glassceramics is proposed and realized. The characteristics of the material obtained by the novel technology are described.     

The Sintering Process of Quartz Ceramics

It is shown, based on the available evidence, that the heating and cooling rates in the heat-treatment regimes of quartz ceramics and its commercial products are of minor importance for the properties of the material and are limited only by the process equipment potentialities. Still, the use of higher heating and cooling rates makes the production of quartz ceramics more cost-effective.     

Amorphous Silicon Dioxide: Preparation Techniques and Applications

Glass Ceramics of β-Spodumene Composition with Controlled Dielectric Constant

A new class of heat-resistant, radio-transparent glass ceramic materials of -spodumene composition is developed. Modifying Li – aluminosilicate glasses with TiO₂ addition allows preparation of materials with controlled dielectric constant in the range of 7 – 12 units.
