Exploration for geothermal resources is often challenging because there are no geophysical techniques that provide direct images of the parameters of interest, such as porosity, permeability and fluid content. Magnetotelluric (MT) and seismic tomography methods yield information about subsurface distribution of resistivity and seismic velocity on similar scales and resolution. The lack of a fundamental law linking the two parameters, however, has limited joint interpretation to a qualitative analysis. By using a statistical approach in which the resistivity and velocity models are investigated in the joint parameter space, we are able to identify regions of high correlation and map these classes (or structures) back onto the spatial domain. This technique, applied to a seismic tomography-MT profile in the area of the Groß Schönebeck geothermal site, allows us to identify a number of classes in accordance with the local geology. In particular, a high-velocity, low-resistivity class is interpreted as related to areas with thinner layers of evaporites; regions where these sedimentary layers are highly fractured may be of higher permeability.  相似文献

Simulation and experimental results from an annular Rijke tube are presented. This system is a thermoacoustic surrogate system of an annular gas turbine combustor which, despite its simplicity, possesses the basic mechanisms to feature unstable azimuthal modes. A thermoacoustic network model is set up and used to derive low-order models for modal control of the system. The derived controllers are successfully applied in simulation and experiment. With the modal controllers, all unstable acoustic modes can be eliminated individually. A simultaneous use of all controllers results in a complete stabilization of the system.  相似文献

The interaction of a helical mode with acoustic oscillations is studied experimentally in a turbulent swirl-stabilized premixed flame. In addition to a precessing vortex core (PVC), the helical mode features perturbations in the outer shear layer of the burner flow. Measurements of the acoustic pressure, unsteady velocity field and flame emission are made in different regimes including self-sustained combustion oscillations and stable regimes with and without acoustic forcing. The acoustic oscillation and the helical mode create a pronounced rotating heat release rate perturbation at a frequency corresponding to the difference of the frequencies of the two individual mechanisms. Measurements over a wide range of operating conditions for different flow rates and equivalence ratios show that while the helical mode is always present, with a constant Strouhal number, self-excited thermoacoustic oscillations exist only in a narrow region. The interaction can be observed also in cases of thermoacoustically stable conditions when external acoustic modulation is applied to the system. The evolution of the helical mode with the forcing amplitude is examined. High-speed imaging from the downstream side of the combustor demonstrates that the heat release rate perturbation associated with the nonlinear interaction of the helical mode and the acoustic oscillations produces a ”yin and yang” -type pattern rotating with the interaction frequency in the direction of the mean swirl. At unstable conditions, the oscillation amplitude associated with the interaction is found to be significantly stronger in the heat release rate than in the velocity signal, indicating that the nonlinear interaction primarily occurs in the flame response and not in the aerodynamic field. The latter is, however, generally possible as is demonstrated under non-reacting conditions with acoustic forcing. Based on a second-order analysis of the G-equation, it is shown that the nonlinear flame dynamics necessarily generate the observed interaction component if the flame is simultaneously perturbed by a helical mode and acoustic oscillations.  相似文献

This paper estimates the approximate yearly electric lighting load of a “green” commercial building for a temperate climate region by studying the impact of a large curved south-facing facade with an external horizontal shading louver, a high window location, and a specular light shelf on yearly interior daylight levels, based on hourly weather data for Washington, D.C. Thus the paper determines the required electric light quantity by calculating hourly daylight illuminance levels and deriving required electric fill-in light when daylight levels are too low, determining daylight quality by calculating luminance values and luminance ratios used for office lighting criteria. It is found that electric light in lux hours per year is needed only for 16% of yearly office hours. The paper gives recommendations for window size and shape, location, light shelf geometry, ceiling and wall details, and workstation layout in order to achieve these low lighting loads.  相似文献

Incoherent imaging and analysis techniques in the scanning transmission electron microscope (STEM) provide the potential to map changes in structure, composition and bonding that occur at materials interfaces and defects on the fundamental atomic scale. Such comprehensive characterization capabilities permit a detailed analysis of the structure-property relationships of interfaces and defects to be performed. In this paper, we discuss the resolution limits of such techniques in the JEOL 2010F STEM/TEM operating both under standard conditions and at elevated temperatures. Examples of the use of such techniques to quantify the atomic scale defect chemistry at interfaces and defects in perovskite oxides, the growth and structure of II-VI and III-V quantum dots and the electronic structure of threading dislocations in GaN will also be presented.  相似文献

In extremum seeking control, the gradient estimation is the key enabler for a successful online optimization. For this purpose, the classical algorithm uses a combination of high- and low-pass filters. In this investigation extended Kalman filters (EKF) are used instead. The approach is explained in detail and advantages of Kalman filtering will become apparent. A novel approach for the gradient estimation for dual-input single-output systems is presented. The proposed EKF incorporates the coupling of the output to both inputs, thus, enabling a superior gradient estimate. A simulation study shows that faster convergence of the extremum-seeking controller can be achieved using this estimator. The feasibility of the proposed algorithm in an experimental setup is demonstrated by control of thermoacoustic instabilities in an atmospheric combustor test rig.  相似文献

The main objective of the study was to develop and calibrate the thermal model of the Groß Schönebeck test site in Northeastern Germany, and to perform sensitivity analyses based on the availability of high-quality temperature data from deep wells. A 3D geological model of the area was constructed and then discretized into a finite element mesh that included 13 different lithologic units of variable thickness. Forward numerical calculations of the temperature field were performed based on measured and assumed data and properties. Finally, inverse modeling was used to improve parameter estimation and to obtain comprehensive statistic information. The results of the computations indicate some spatial thermal conductivity inhomogeneities in the different geologic layers and imply that the basal heat flux in the area is about 60 mW m−2.  相似文献

Detection of weakened hosts from a distance by bark beetles through olfaction was investigated in field experiments. No significant numbers of Scolytidae were attracted to anaerobically treated pine bolts, stem disks, or sugar and ponderosa pine bark including phloem. Treatment of living trees with cacodylic acid induced attacks byDendroctonus brevicomis, D. ponderosae, Ips latidens, Gnathotrichus retusus, andPityophthorus scalptor, beginning two weeks after treatment. There was no significant difference between landing rates ofD. brevicomis andD. ponderosae on screened treated trees and screened controls. There was a significant increase in landing rates ofG. retusus andI. latidens, because both species had penetrated the screen and produced pheromones. Tree frilling alone did not increase the landing rate of bark beetles. Freezing of the lower trunk with dry ice did not increase significantly the landing rate ofD. brevicomis, D. ponderosae, G. retusus, orI. latidens on screened trees, whereas unscreened frozen trees were attacked by all four species. There was no significantly higher landing rate byD. brevicomis, D. ponderosae, I. paraconfusus, I. latidens, G. retusus, orHylurgops subcostulatus on screened trees evidencing symptoms of severe infection by the root pathogenVerticicladiella wagenerii, than on symptornless trees. These experiments show thatD. brevicomis, D. ponderosae, I. paraconfusus, I. latidens, andG. retusus land, apparently indiscriminately, on healthy and stressed hosts. Thus, in these species host discrimination must occur after landing and prior to sustained feeding.These studies were supported in part by the U.S.D.A.
