A simple model was proposed for predicting the Young’s modulus of nanocomposites based on polymeric blends. First, a simple model was derived for binary blends containing only two polymers. This model is more useful for those blends with high degree of continuity. Therefore, the morphology of the blend is divided into parallel and series regions and the percolation theory is used to calculate the volume fraction of these phases. In the next step, the addition of nanoclay, as a third component, is being considered. These nanoparticles may possibly find locations at the matrix, minor or interface. In the latter case, the model was expanded into a three-phase model including the matrix, dispersed and a third phase containing nanoclay which itself was split into series and parallel sections. A model related to the reinforcing effect of nanoclay was employed and combined with the above model to estimate the modulus of this ternary nanocomposite. The experimental data which is obtained from nanocomposite based on low-density polyethylene/thermoplastic starch/Cloisite 30B were compared with the model results and revealed a good agreement with each other. Also, the model predictions were compared with other experimental data from literature sources to verify the model accuracy. The comparison showed that the model predictions can predict the experimental data rationally. This model can be used to determine the structure of a nanocomposite without any other expensive tests.  相似文献

Styrene‐(maleic anhydride) copolymer (SMA) compatibilized blends of acrylonitrile‐butadiene rubber (ABS) and polyamide 6 (PA6) with a variety of compositions and compatibilizer levels were prepared at various screw speeds in a corotating twin screw extruder. A Box–Behnken model for three variables, with three levels, was chosen as an experimental design, and the mechanical properties of the blends were considered as the responses. Each response was analyzed and formulated versus the considered factors by the use of response surface methodology. Impact resistance increased with increased SMA concentration and reduced screw speed. In compatibilized samples, with an increase in PA6 content, higher impact resistance was observed. Increasing PA6 content and SMA concentration, as well as decreasing screw speed, gave improvements in both tensile and flexural strengths. In each case, all of the correlations among factors were studied. Grafting of SMA was proved by detecting the graft copolymer (SMA‐PA6) formed through extraction in formic acid and FTIR spectroscopy. Compared with uncompatibilized blends, compatibilized samples displayed more uniform and finer particle sizes, thereby proving the compatibilizing effect of the graft copolymer. The asymmetry trend in dispersed particle size before and after the phase inversion became more differentiated in the presence of the compatibilizer. Adding SMA lowered the phase inversion composition (based on PA6), whereas higher screw speed increased it. J. VINYL ADDIT. TECHNOL., 2009. © 2009 Society of Plastics Engineers  相似文献

BACKGROUND: The effectiveness of chitosan films containing Zataria multiflora Boiss essential oil (ZEO) (5 and 10 g kg?1) and grape seed extract (GSE) (10 g kg?1) on lipid oxidation and microbial (lactic acid bacteria, aerobic mesophiles and inoculated Listeria monocytogenes) characteristics of mortadella sausage at 4 °C for 21 days was evaluated. The release of total phenolics (TPs) into sausage was also assessed. RESULTS: All films exhibited antibacterial activity against L. monocytogenes on agar culture media. Chitosan films containing ZEO were the most effective on the growth of bacteria. The growth of L. monocytogenes was significantly inhibited by ZEO‐GSE containing films especially during storage of the sausages for 6 days. Aerobic mesophiles and lactic acid bacteria were the most sensitive and resistant groups to films by 0.1–1.1 and 0.1–0.7 log cycles reduction, respectively. Sausages wrapped by 10 g kg?1 GSE + 10 g kg?1 ZEO films had the lowest degrees of lipid oxidation, which was 23% lower than the control. The TPs of ZEO films decreased to zero after 6 days, whereas TPs of GSE films followed a slight decrease during the storage. CONCLUSION: Antimicrobial/antioxidant chitosan film could be developed by incorporating GSE and ZEO for extending the shelf life of mortadella sausage. Polypropylene (PP) based active composite films were prepared by adding butylated hydroxy anisole (BHA), butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT), and tertiary butylated hydroquinone (TBHQ) antioxidants using the extrusion molding process. All concentrations of BHT, 2% to 3% BHA, and 3% TBHQ significantly increased the tensile strength (TS) of the composite films compared with control films. Increasing antioxidant concentration decreased TS values for BHT films, whereas an opposite trend was observed for BHA and TBHQ films. BHA at < 2%, BHT at > 2%, and TBHQ at all added concentrations significantly reduced elongation at break (Eb) of the composite films compared to control films. Water vapor permeability (WVP) of 1% BHT film was not significantly different from control. However, other antioxidants especially at increased concentrations significantly increased WVP values. TBHQ films with 300% to 662% increase had the highest WVP and BHT films with 5% to 81% increase had the lowest WVP among composite films. All three antioxidants had a negative effect on the transparency of the films; however the effect of BHA at higher concentrations was greater. The antioxidants did not change the color attributes of the films. Films containing all antioxidants showed 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical-scavenging activity, which increased with increase in their concentration, especially for those containing 3 wt.% BHT and TBHQ. Overall, incorporating BHA and BHT into a PP matrix improved mechanical, barrier, antioxidant properties, and film appearance and consequently were proposed for the development of antioxidant active PP films. TBHQ film is not recommended for food packaging because of its weak mechanical properties (lower Eb and TS values, higher WVP, and greater migration).  相似文献

The effect of chopped rice husk (CRH) content on viscoelastic properties and crystallinity of polypropylene (PP) composites was investigated. Composites containing 0, 20, and 40 part per hundred plastics (php) of CRH into PP were prepared by twin‐screw extruder, with maleic anhydride‐grafted PP as the coupling agent. The viscoelastic behavior and the crystallinity of these composites have been studied by dynamic mechanical analysis as well as differential scanning calorimetry, respectively. By the incorporation of CRH into PP, the storage modulus (E′) was found to be increased progressively, whereas the mechanical loss factor (tan δ) decreased in a nonlinear manner. A self‐consistent analysis was proposed for the prediction of viscoelastic response of the interphase between PP matrix and CRH particles. A three‐phase model was applied in a reverse mode, and the viscoelastic behavior of the interphase was extracted and compared with the unfilled matrix. Differential scanning calorimetry results indicated that CRH influences crystallization temperature as well as the degree of crystallinity of the composites. An entrapped polymer within CRH filler and PP matrix was detected by scanning electron microscope, which can be attributed to the interfacial layer with a good adhesion between the main components. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Blends of polypropylene and thermoplastic starch (TPS) containing different amounts of TPS were prepared with and without modified montmorillonite (C30B) in the presence of ethylene‐(vinyl acetate) copolymer. Mechanical properties, thermal stability, morphology, and biodegradation were investigated. The results of tensile tests showed that the tensile strength and Young's modulus increased but that elongation at break decreased in the presence of C30B. Small‐angle X‐ray scattering patterns and transmission electron microscopy confirmed that the prepared nanocomposites were exfoliated. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used for the investigation of the phase morphology and particle distribution. Thermal gravimetric analysis indicated that the C30B caused an increase in thermal degradation temperature. Biodegradability tests of the specimens were conducted in a fungal culture medium. Biodegradation was assessed by SEM images, monitoring the changes in the FTIR spectra, and the weight loss of specimens after culturing. J. VINYL ADDIT. The various ratios of recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET) into polypropylene (PP) filled with 40 parts chopped rice husk per hundred part of polymer have been studied. Composites were prepared using a corotating twin screw extruder at temperature zones of 165–215, well below 250°C (rPET mp temperature) and characterized by mechanical and thermal properties. To improve the compatibility between different components, PP grafted with maleic anhydride was added as a coupling agent in all the compositions studied. The results showed that the addition of rPET improved the tensile and flexural modulus and impact strength of the composite while reducing its tensile and flexural strength. The scanning electron microscopy micrographs of samples in the injection direction showed that some particle shaped rPET inside the composites appear as drawn fibrils and some appear as plates. Differential scanning calorimetric studies showed that the addition of rPET particles to the composites decrease the PP crystallization temperatures. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This paper focuses on the problem of maximizing throughput in multicast routing in Multi-Channel, Multi-Radio (MCMR) wireless mesh network. We propose an optimization framework based on binary integer programming that minimizes interference in multicast communication. Our Multicasting with multiple Gateways and Partially Overlapped Channels (MG-POC) framework utilizes a rational node selection to construct multicast tree that increases network performance. MG-POC is efficient as it (1) constructs the paths between source and receivers with minimal number of data forwarding nodes; (2) employs multiple gateways to substantially reduce interference and usage of resources; (3) benefits from wireless broadcast advantage and partially overlapped channels in channel assignment; (4) solves channel assignment and tree construction problems simultaneously. A weakly decoupled approach is also presented which finds a nearly optimal solution for large network problems in a reasonably short amount of time. Our schemes are proved to offer a connected and loop-free tree; and their performance are well compared to that of several existing methods on different simulation scenarios. The results of our simulations also demonstrate that incorporating multi-gateway and partially overlapping channels has a significant impact on minimizing network interference which, in turn, dramatically enhances network throughput.  相似文献

In this study, low‐density polyethylene (LDPE) nanocomposite films with two types of nanoparticles, TiO2 (3 wt %) and Closite 20A (3 and 5 wt %), were prepared using a melt blow extrusion as an industrial method and their properties such as mechanical properties, water vapor, oxygen and carbon dioxide gas barrier, and antimicrobial activity were tested. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and X‐ray diffraction (XRD) were also performed to determine the degree of dispersion and exfoliation of nanoparticles. Mechanical test indicated that the reinforcement in the presence of the nanocomposites was more than that with their conventional counterparts, and the highest stiffness was achieved in a sample containing 5 wt % clay and 3 wt % TiO2. Exfoliation of silicate layers and a good dispersion of TiO2 nanoparticles in LDPE were achieved as confirmed by XRD and TEM. The gas barrier properties were improved after formation of the nanocomposites especially by insertion of 5 wt % of clay nanoparticles as a filler in the LDPE matrix. The photocatalytic effect of the nanocomposite film was carried out by antimicrobial evaluation against Pseudomonas spp. and Rhodotorula mucilaginosa and by ethylene removal test using 8 W ultraviolet (UV) lamps with a constant relative intensity of 1 mW cm?2. The greatest effects were recorded by combining UVA illumination and active film. It was also proven that the photocatalyst thin film with improved barrier properties prepared by extrusion could be used in horticultural product packaging applications. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Antioxidant chitosan based edible films were developed incorporated with Zataria multiflora Boiss essential oil (ZEO) (5 and 10 g/L) and grape seed extract (GSE) (10 g/L) alone and in combination. The physico-mechanical, wettability, swelling index, color, total phenol and antioxidant characteristics of the films were investigated. Films without any agents were used as control sample. All films, with the exception of 10 g/L GSE + 10 g/L ZEO film, exhibited lower strength and elongation values, and only the addition of 10 g/L ZEO to GSE film improved the water vapor transmission rate of chitosan films. Only GSE containing films had higher swelling index. The incorporation of GSE and ZEO into chitosan film increased the wettability of the surface, total phenol and antioxidant activity. Neat chitosan and ZEO incorporated films had a light yellowish color, whereas GSE + ZEO films were gray.  相似文献
