Aqueous solutions of poly(vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP) of various concentrations (20, 25, and 28 wt%) were successfully spun into fibers by centrifugal spinning. The pristine PVP fibers were annealed and carbonized to produce flexible carbon fibers for use as binder-free anodes in lithium-ion batteries. These flexible carbon fibers were prepared by developing a novel three-step heat treatment to reduce the residual stresses in the pristine PVP precursor fibers, and to prevent fiber degradation during carbonization. The thermogravimetric analysis data showed that the annealed fibers yielded a residual mass percentage of 36.0% while the pristine PVP fibers suffered a higher mass loss and only retained 26.5% of original mass above 450 °C (under nitrogen). The electrochemical performance of the carbon-fiber anodes was evaluated by conducting galvanostatic charge/discharge, rate performance, and cycle voltammetry experiments. The 20, 25, and 28 wt% derived binder-free anodes delivered specific charge capacities of 205, 189, and 275 mAh g−1, respectively, after the first cycle at a current density of 100 mA g−1. The results obtained in this work indicate that a feasible pathway towards a large-scale production of carbon-fiber anodes from a 100% aqueous solution can be achieved via centrifugal spinning and subsequent heat treatment. 相似文献

ABSTRACT A series of batch contact tests were conducted to evaluate the exchange behavior of Ba, Ca, Pb, and Sr onto crystalline silicotitanate (CST) in support of an expedited Cs removal and pretreatment system at the Hanford site. Binary Na/M2+ and ternary Na/Cs/M2+ isotherms were generated to understand selectivity, capacity, and competitive impact of each analyte on Cs uptake from a simple 1 M NaOH/4.6 M NaNO3 simulant. Analyte loading from a 0.1 M NaOH/5.5 M NaNO3 simulant was assessed to determine the effect of hydroxide concentration on binary Na/M2+ isotherms. Results from binary and ternary isotherms indicated that Group II metals Ca, Sr, and Ba (and Pb) do not impact CST performance toward Cs removal at concentrations expected in Hanford tank-waste supernate. 相似文献

Maturity-onset diabetes of the young (MODY) type 2 is caused by heterozygous inactivating mutations in the gene encoding glucokinase (GCK), a pivotal enzyme for glucose homeostasis. In the pancreas GCK regulates insulin secretion, while in the liver it promotes glucose utilization and storage. We showed that silencing the Drosophila GCK orthologs Hex-A and Hex-C results in a MODY-2-like hyperglycemia. Targeted knock-down revealed that Hex-A is expressed in insulin producing cells (IPCs) whereas Hex-C is specifically expressed in the fat body. We showed that Hex-A is essential for insulin secretion and it is required for Hex-C expression. Reduced levels of either Hex-A or Hex-C resulted in chromosome aberrations (CABs), together with an increased production of advanced glycation end-products (AGEs) and reactive oxygen species (ROS). This result suggests that CABs, in GCK depleted cells, are likely due to hyperglycemia, which produces oxidative stress through AGE metabolism. In agreement with this hypothesis, treating GCK-depleted larvae with the antioxidant vitamin B6 rescued CABs, whereas the treatment with a B6 inhibitor enhanced genomic instability. Although MODY-2 rarely produces complications, our data revealed the possibility that MODY-2 impacts genome integrity. 相似文献

In this work, Gd2Ge2O7 polymorphs were obtained by solid-state reactions at 1100–1300 °C. Structural and vibrational features were investigated by X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy. For the triclinic (space group P1) polymorph, all the predicted phonons were discerned in perfect agreement with the group theory calculations, while for the tetragonal polymorph (space group P41212), 53 bands of the 81 predicted modes could be identified and characterized. The Gd3+ 4f-4f electronic transitions were investigated by diffuse reflectance spectroscopy in the range 200–340 nm. By applying the Kubelka-Munk function, it was possible to determine the bandgap values for all ceramics studied. The tetragonal polymorph exhibited higher bandgap values (5.88 eV) than the triclinic one (5.59 eV), which are both more energetic than other pyrochlore polymorphs reported in the literature. The results indicate that the presence of polymorphism in Gd2Ge2O7 ceramics can be used to produce tailor-made materials since their crystal structures have a strong influence on their optical properties. Consequently, these properties could be used to tuning the optical properties of Gd-containing materials to sensitize and transfer energy to other luminescent lanthanide ions, aiming for innovative applications. 相似文献

Lung cancer represents an extremely diffused neoplastic disorder with different histological/molecular features. Among the different lung tumors, non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is the most represented histotype, characterized by various molecular markers, including the expression/overexpression of the fibroblast growth factor receptor-1 (FGFR1). Thus, FGF/FGFR blockade by tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKi) or FGF-ligand inhibitors may represent a promising therapeutic approach in lung cancers. In this study we demonstrate the potential therapeutic benefit of targeting the FGF/FGFR system in FGF-dependent lung tumor cells using FGF trapping (NSC12) or TKi (erdafitinib) approaches. The results show that inhibition of FGF/FGFR by NSC12 or erdafitinib induces apoptosis in FGF-dependent human squamous cell carcinoma NCI-H1581 and NCI-H520 cells. Induction of oxidative stress is the main mechanism responsible for the therapeutic/pro-apoptotic effect exerted by both NSC12 and erdafitinib, with apoptosis being abolished by antioxidant treatments. Finally, reduction of c-Myc protein levels appears to strictly determine the onset of oxidative stress and the therapeutic response to FGF/FGFR inhibition, indicating c-Myc as a key downstream effector of FGF/FGFR signaling in FGF-dependent lung cancers. 相似文献

ABSTRACT Several Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) techniques have been studied including injections of carbon dioxide (CO2) into the mature and/or depleted hydrocarbon reservoirs and deep saline aquifers. This work aims to test storing CO2 into the magnesium-rich evaporite strata and also into the stratigraphic intervals containing Mg-rich brines. The test simulates Mg-carbonation of the synthetic solution obtained from the Mg-evaporite mineral, bischofite – both experimentally in the laboratory condition and also through computerised geochemical simulation. The laboratory experiments, which resulted in the crystallisation of anhydrous magnesite, were analysed. The TOUGHREACTTM, Geochemist’s WorkbenchTM (GWB) and PHREEQCTM software simulated the experiments as computerised geochemical model and tested the results for natural geological conditions. The geochemical simulations successfully demonstrate the immense CCS potential for the Mg-evaporite (as well as the sedimentary strata charged with Mg-evaporitic brine) at their subsurface geological occurrences at elevated pressure-temperature and high salinity. 相似文献

Alcohol-free beer with isotonic properties is getting more popular and its production can be carried out by different production strategies; however, interrupted fermentation is still a challenge. Therefore, the objective of this study was to develop a low-alcohol isotonic beer (<0.5% v/v) by interrupted fermentation. Moreover, the major objective is to compare the developed product to commercial beverages (sports drinks, ‘Pilsen' regular beer, alcohol-free beers and low-alcohol isotonic beer). The beverages were evaluated based on pH, alcohol content (% v/v), total titratable acidity (mEq L−1), osmolality (mOsmol kg−1), bitterness International Bitterness Units, colour European Brewery Convention, total phenolic compounds (mg L−1 gallic acid), reducing and total sugars (%) and Na and K contents (mg L−1). The developed low-alcohol isotonic beer presented characteristics similar to sports drinks, with the advantage of being richer in phenolic compounds and suitable osmolality. Despite salts were added in its formulation, the grades attributed to all beers employed in the sensory evaluation, as well as the purchase intention did not present significant differences. 相似文献
