The effect of Co, Pd and Pt ultrathin films on the kinetics of the formation of Ni-silicide by reactive diffusion is investigated. 50 nm Ni/1 nm X/ 50 nm Ni (X?=?Co, Pd, Pt) deposited on Si(100) substrates are studied using in-situ and ex-situ measurements by X-ray diffraction (XRD). The presence of Co, Pd or Pt thin films in between the Ni layers delays the formation of the metal rich phase compared to the pure Ni/Si system and thus these films act as diffusion barriers. A simultaneous silicide formation (δ-Ni2Si and NiSi phases) different from the classic sequential formation is found during the consumption of the top Ni layer for which Ni has to diffuse through the barrier. A model for the simultaneous growth in the presence of a barrier is developed, and simulation of the kinetics measured by XRD is used to determine the permeability of the different barriers. Atom probe tomography (APT) of the Ni/Pd/Ni system shows that the Pd layer is located between the Ni top layer and δ-Ni2Si during the silicide growth, in accordance with a silicide formation controlled by Ni diffusion through the Pd layer. The effect of the barrier on the silicide formation and properties is discussed.

This article deals with the drug release behavior of theophylline (Th) from poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) hydrogels, prepared with magnetic nanoparticles at different particle loadings. These biocompatible matrices were obtained by incorporating different amounts of an aqueous ferrofluid into PVA hydrogels, loaded with Th as a marker for drug‐delivery studies. PVA films with magnetic particles proved to be magnetic field‐responsive materials as the drug release decreased through the application of a relative low and uniform magnetic field for particle concentrations of 0.9% w/w or higher. Moreover, the percentage of restriction of drug release is found to be correlated with particle loading. The in vitro release profiles were analyzed by applying a semiempirical power law to obtain the kinetic parameters. The value of the release exponent was found to be in the range 0.54–0.56 in all experiments, which thus indicates a predominant diffusional mechanism for drug release from these smart magnetic hydrogels. This effect suggests the possibility of modulating the release behavior by controlling the particle content in the preparation of the composites. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A daily ingestion of 1000 to 1500 mg elemental calcium associated with vitamin D supplement is presently considered to be the adequate and least expensive therapy for senile osteoporosis. There exists only scarce data about calcium absorption with available calcium salts in elderly patients. We have compared the digestive absorption of calcium (Ca) citrate in soluble and solid form and calcium gluconolactate-carbonate in 15 young and 20 elderly, healthy women using the oral calcium loading test. The subjects were divided into two groups. In the first group, the absorption of solid Ca citrate (1000 mg Ca element) was compared to the absorption of Ca gluconolactate-carbonate (1000 mg Ca element) both in young (n = 7) and elderly women (n = 10). In the second group, the absorption of soluble Ca citrate (1000 mg Ca element) was compared to the absorption of Ca gluconolactate-carbonate (1000 mg Ca element) in young (n = 8) and elderly (n = 10) women. In the preload phase, basal calciuria was increased in elderly women (p < 0.01) although basal calcemia was similar in young and elderly women. After oral administration of the calcium salts, an increase in plasma Ca was observed in both groups which was greater for soluble Ca citrate and Ca gluconolactate than for solid Ca citrate. In young women, the increase in plasma calcium was significantly higher with soluble Ca citrate compared to Ca gluconolactate (p < 0.05). In elderly women, the postload calciuria was significantly higher for soluble Ca citrate (p < 0.05) and Ca gluconolactate (p < 0.05) compared to solid Ca citrate. A similar pattern was observed in young women, although it was not significant. In conclusion, an oral load of 1000 mg soluble Ca citrate and Ca gluconolactate-carbonate induces significant biochemical changes suggesting a better digestive absorption compared to Ca citrate in solid form, both in young and elderly women. The recent observation of a case of non-parasitic cyst of the liver brought the authors to a literature review. A 62 year old male, affected by type 2 diabetes and hypertension, after a CT scan and ETG, underwent resection and "capitonnage" of the cyst. Three months after surgery a CT scan showed a complete repletion of the cavity previously occupied by the cyst as a consequence of regeneration and reorganization of the hepatic parenchyma. In conclusion, hepatic cysts are rare and clinically relevant only when huge. The diagnosis is possible with the use of ETG and CT scan of the abdomen, however, in some cases angiography is also useful. The intervention of choice is the "capitonnage" of the cyst.  相似文献

Interleukin 2 (IL-2) interacts with a receptor (IL-2R) composed of three subunits (IL-2R alpha, IL-2R beta and IL-2R gamma). IL-2R beta plays a critical role in signal transduction. An anti-human IL-2 mAb (H2-8) produced after immunization with peptide 1-30 of IL-2 was found to recognize the region occupied by Asp20, at the exposed interface between alpha-helices A and C. Muteins at position 17 and 20 are not recognized by mAb H2-8. mAb H2-8 specifically inhibits the IL-2 proliferation of TS1beta cells which are dependent on the expression of human IL-2R beta chain for IL-2 proliferation. Substitution at internal position Leu17 demonstrates that this position is essential for IL-2 binding and IL-2 bioactivity. New IL-2 mutants at position Asp20 have been analysed. Substitutions Asp --> Asn, Asp --> Lys, Asp --> Leu, show a correlation between diminished affinity for IL-2 receptor and reduced bioactivity measured on TS1beta cells. Mutein Asp Arg lose affinity for IL-2R and bioactivity simultaneously. Furthermore, during the course of the study we have found that mutein Asp20 --> Leu is an IL-2 antagonist. The biological effects of mAb H2-8 and the properties of new mutants at positions 17 and 20 demonstrate that this region of alpha helix-A is involved in IL-2-IL-2R beta interactions.  相似文献

Three resins having a poly(amido-amine) structure have been synthesized. The basicity and complexing ability towards copper(II) have been investigated by potentiometric techniques, and compared with those of the corresponding soluble polymers. The adsorbing capacities of the resins in columns were tested, and a sharp separation between different metal ions is achieved.  相似文献

The proper characterization of cast materials is rather challenging because of wide deviations of material features due to the fabrication process. In the frame of propeller design, a recently proposed fatigue assessment procedure highlighted the need of reliable fatigue strength characterization of cast bronzes. With the aim of obtaining reference S–N curves to support the fatigue assessment of propeller blades and to evaluate the effect on fatigue strength of the most influencing parameters, a comprehensive literature survey was carried out. It appeared that fatigue strength of cast bronzes is quite challenging to evaluate, firstly, because the properties may considerably differ from small specimens to real blades and, secondly, because relatively few experimental data are openly available.  相似文献

Interleukin (IL)-2, a major growth and differentiation factor for T lymphocytes, was found to induce tyrosine phosphorylation of the proto-oncogene products p120-Cbl and CrkL in IL-2-dependent cell lines. We established that, in unstimulated lymphocytes, the Src homology 2 (SH2) and SH3 domain-containing protein Grb2 and the p85 subunit of phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase, associate constitutively with Cbl via their SH3 domains. Furthermore, IL-2 stimulation increased the level of interaction of phosphorylated Cbl with the p85 SH2 domains, and we provide evidence that the preformed Cbl-Grb2 complex recruits the phosphorylated p52 Shc adaptor protein. In addition, we demonstrate that the SH2-SH3-SH3 adaptor protein CrkL is tyrosine-phosphorylated in an IL-2-dependent manner and, via its SH2 domain, associates with a large proportion of phosphorylated Cbl. We also show that p85 is preassociated with the CrkL SH3 domain. Furthermore, the association of CrkL and p85 is increased after IL-2 treatment by a mechanism involving intermediary tyrosine-phosphorylated proteins that remain to be identified. Our results show that CrkL associates independently with Cbl or p85 and suggest that it also participates in larger complexes containing Cbl and p85. Although the precise roles of Cbl and CrkL remain to be elucidated, their tyrosine phosphorylation, in addition to the multiple protein interactions described here, strongly suggest that Cbl and CrkL may play pivotal roles in the early steps of IL-2 signal transduction.  相似文献

The Authors report the result of their ten-years experience with femoro-femoral crossover bypass in 26 patients affected with unilateral occlusion of the iliac artery. This bypass is an easy and quick procedure, useful in both short and long term. The patency rate after 58 months is 84.6%. Thus, its use indicated in a high number of patients, not only for a limb salvage treatment of a disabling claudication. The indications for this bypass can be extended to low surgical risk subjects, and it does not have to be considered only for the high-risk patients, instead of major surgery procedure on the aorto-iliac axis. The minimal necessary conditions of the limbs for performing the femoro-femoral crossover bypass are a pressure gradient of 35 mmHg and the angiographical demonstration of the unilateral occlusion. If the contralateral axis appears patent, but there are also multiple atherosclerotic sites, we consider other bypasses as therapeutical choices: aorto-bifemoral, ilio-femoral and the femoro-femoral cross-over itself; in the latter case we previously perform a transluminal angioplasty or an endarterectomy of the donor iliac artery. In these situations is essential to evaluate of the benefit/risk rate for every single patient.  相似文献
