Electrical control of shape of laser beam using axially symmetric liquid crystal cells

This work demonstrates the electrical tuning of laser beam shape using an axially symmetric dye-dope liquid crystal (ASDDLC) device that is fabricated using a photo-alignment method. Various beam shapes can be obtained by linearly polarized Gaussian laser beams through an ASDDLC device under various applied voltages. The far-field intensity patterns generated by laser beams of selected shapes under various applied voltages are simulated, and the results are consistent with experiment. A rotatable petal-shaped beam is obtained by controlling the polarization of the output donut-shaped beam. The tenability of beam shape of light with a wavelength of 1064 nm, which is commonly used in biomedical applications, is also demonstrated.     

Side-effect localization for lazy, purely functional languages via aspects

Many side-effecting programming activities, such as profiling and tracing, can be formulated as crosscutting concerns and be framed as side-effecting aspects in the aspect-oriented programming paradigm. The benefit gained from this separation of concerns is particularly evident in purely functional programming, as adding such aspects using techniques such as monadification will generally lead to crosscutting changes. This paper presents an approach to provide side-effecting aspects for lazy purely functional languages in a user transparent fashion. We propose a simple yet direct state manipulation construct for developing side-effecting aspects and devise a systematic monadification scheme to translate the woven code to monadic style purely functional code. Furthermore, we present a static and dynamic semantics of the aspect programs and reason about the correctness of our monadification scheme with respect to them.

文中研究并推导出了二次有理 Bèzier曲线的曲率单调条件 .研究结果表明 ,有理 Bèzier曲线比 Bèzier曲线的曲率单调条件具有更大的自由度 .对于任意的三个控制顶点 ,只要两控制边的夹角不小于 90度 ,必定存在一族曲率单调的二次有理 Bèzier曲线 .二次有理 Bèzier曲线不仅可表示曲率单调的抛物线段 ,还可表示曲率单调的椭圆弧和双曲线段 ,这取决于权因子的取值 .     

Antiplatelet Effect and Selective Binding to Cyclooxygenase (COX) by Molecular Docking Analysis of Flavonoids and Lignans

The known flavonoids ginkgetin (1), taiwanhomoflavone A (2), taiwanhomoflavone B (3), and taiwanhomoflavone C (4) and eight known lignans: justicidin B (9), justicidin C (10), justicidin D (11), chinensinaphthol methyl ether (12), procumphthalide A (13), procumbenoside A (15), and ciliatosides A (16) and B (17) were isolated from Cephalotaxus wilsoniana and Justicia species, respectively. The antiplatelet effects of the above constituents on human platelet-rich plasma (PRP) were evaluated. Of the compounds tested on human PRP, compounds 1, 4, 9, and 11 showed inhibition of secondary aggregation induced by adrenaline. Compound 1 had an inhibitory effect on cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1). Molecular docking studies revealed that 1 and the related compounds apigenin (5), cycloheterophyllin (6), broussoflavone F (7), and quercetin (8) were docked near the gate of active site of COX-1. It indicated that the antiplatelet effect of 1, 4, 9, and 11 is partially owed to suppression of COX-1 activity and reduced thromboxane formation. Flavonoids, 1, 5, 6, 7, and 8 may block the gate of the active site of COX-1 and interfere the conversion of arachidonic acid to prostaglandin (PG) H₂ in the COX-1 active site.

Environmental designers and researchers have taken advantage of visual surrogates for problem solving in a variety of physical settings and for theory building in the areas of environmental perception and behaviour. However, validity issues—external validity, ecological validity and incremental validity—have to be considered while selecting an environmental surrogate. In representing water features the dynamic qualities of water, sound and movement, have to be portrayed. A method is described for representing built waterscapes by videotape images, which takes into account these three validity concerns (although the validity of the surrogate is not tested). The surrogate attempts to recognize that human environmental perception is multi-modal and that humans are active participants throughout the environment. Such a surrogate seeks to more realistically reflect actual human environmental experience, but the effectiveness of the videos and their application to non-built settings requires further empirical support.     

柠檬酸及其盐类中嗜酸耐热菌的检测

目的对柠檬酸及其盐类中嗜酸耐热菌进行培养,研究最佳检测方法。方法通过改变培养基种类、pH值和热休克方式三个因素,以菌落数多少进行综合评价,优选最佳检测方法。结果检测嗜酸耐热菌的最佳条件:70℃热处理20 min,室温水冷却,用滤膜抽滤后接种于pH值为3.5~4.0的YSG培养基上,置45℃培养5 d。结论该方法对柠檬酸及其盐类中嗜酸耐热菌的检测有较强的实用性。     

The Impact of Public Participation on the Effectiveness of,and Users' Attachment to,Urban Neighbourhood Parks

As Taiwanese people's awareness of civic consciousness has risen over the past decade, the government has undergone administrative reform to allow citizens to participate in public affairs. The Neighbourhood Park Improvement Plan (NPIP), as executed by the Taipei City Government, is aimed at encouraging community involvement in the planning and design of neighbourhood parks. The purpose of this study was to examine the outcome of the NPIP by comparing facility suitability and functional benefit, as well as park users' emotional bonding and involvement intention, with regards to improved and unimproved neighbourhood parks. The results indicated that park users considered the facility suitability and functional benefits of improved parks to be better than those of unimproved parks. In addition, users' emotional bonding to, and involvement intention for, improved parks were stronger than those of unimproved parks. Based on the findings, suggestions were made for community involvement in park improvement projects.
