Cell suspensions of Escherichia coli as a model for bacterial populations in wastewaters were treated with ozone as a disinfectant in a continuously operated pilot plant with a plug flow reactor. Suspensions with an initial number of CFU (colony forming units) of 108 mL?1 were ozonized with ozone concentrations up to 12 mg/L. Metabolic activities and membrane functions break down with increasing ozone concentrations. The fluorochromization using 3′,6′-diacetylfluorescein (FDA) proved to be a suitable method for the detection of an alteration in permeability of the cell membranes and an inactivation of metabolic activity. By fluorescence microscopic and photometric investigations it could be clearly demonstrated that, in the case of disinfection with ozone, inactivation of the cells includes first of all a damage of the cell membranes. In contrast to the determination of the number of CFU, fluorochromization allows the detection of alteration in metabolic activities. 相似文献

Poor sludge settleability is a problem encountered in many activated sludge wastewater treatment plants. This study was aimed at combatting the unwanted biological growths at the root of this phenomenon with ozone. Ozone dosed directly into the aeration basins of small activated sludge pilot plants treating both domestic and synthetic fuel wastewaters led to a substantial reduction of the bulking problem even at dosages as low as 6 to 10 mg/L. Synthetic vision systems (SVS) render terrain features for pilots through cockpit displays using a GPS database and three‐dimensional graphical models. Enhanced vision systems (EVS) present infrared imagery of terrain using a forward‐looking sensor in the nose of an aircraft. The ultimate goal of SVS and EVS technologies is to support pilots in achieving safety under low‐visibility and night conditions comparable to clear, day conditions. This study assessed pilot performance and situation awareness (SA) effects of SVS and EVS imagery in an advanced head‐up display (HUD) during a simulated landing approach under instrument meteorological conditions. Videos of the landing with various HUD configurations were presented to eight pilots with a superimposed tracking task. The independent variables included four HUD feature configurations (baseline [no terrain imagery], SVS, EVS, and a combination of SVS and EVS), two visibility conditions, and four legs of the flight. Results indicated that SVS increased overall SA but degraded flight path control performance because of visual confusion with other display features. EVS increased flight path control accuracy but decreased system (aircraft) awareness because of visual distractions. The combination of SVS and EVS generated offsetting effects. Display configurations did not affect pilot spatial awareness. Flight performance was not different among phases of the approach, but levels and types of pilot SA did vary from leg to leg. These results are applicable to development of adaptive HUD features to support pilot performance. If the production process, production equipment, or material changes, it becomes necessary to execute pilot runs before mass production in manufacturing systems. Using the limited data obtained from pilot runs to shorten the lead time to predict future production is this worthy of study. Although, artificial neural networks are widely utilized to extract management knowledge from acquired data, sufficient training data is the fundamental assumption. Unfortunately, this is often not achievable for pilot runs because there are few data obtained during trial stages and theoretically this means that the knowledge obtained is fragile. The purpose of this research is to utilize bootstrap to generate virtual samples to fill the information gaps of sparse data. The results of this research indicate that the prediction error rate can be significantly decreased by applying the proposed method to a very small data set. 相似文献

Recently, much attention has been given to performance management within collaborative environments resulting in a wide variety of performance measurement/management frameworks. However, practically all of these frameworks present a common gap regarding the information treatment needs that support these frameworks. This issue is even more important in the case of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) due to their special characteristics. For that purpose, this paper presents an approach called Global Performance Management (GPM) Framework composed of a methodology, an information architecture and a technological solution, focusing mainly on the information architecture. The methodology guides SMEs when defining, developing, deploying and operating the GPM framework. The information architecture consists of a set of elements that support the tasks of collection, treatment and analysis of the used information, which complement the methodology to build a real model for the GPM framework. Finally, the technological solution bridges the engineering and conceptual environment, with the real-world operational and executable environment, following the path defined by the methodology. The information architecture was applied to two European pilots, achieving satisfactory results, which are highlighted in the paper as well as the main barriers encountered and solutions provided. 相似文献
