Anti-spinel oxide SrY2O4 has attracted extensive attention as a promising host lattice due to its outstanding high-temperature structural stability and large thermal expansion coefficient (TEC). However, the overhigh thermal conductivity limits its application in the field of thermal barrier coatings. To address this issue, a novel high-entropy Sr(Y0.2Sm0.2Gd0.2Dy0.2Yb0.2)2O4 ceramic was designed and synthesized for the first time via the solid-state method. It is found that the thermal conductivity of Sr(Y0.2Sm0.2Gd0.2Dy0.2Yb0.2)2O4 is reduced to 1.61 W·m−1·K−1, 53 % lower than that of SrY2O4 (3.44 W·m−1·K−1) at 1500 °C. Furthermore, reasonable TEC (11.53 ×10−6 K−1, 25 °C ∼ 1500 °C), excellent phase stability, and improved fracture toughness (1.92 ± 0.04 MPa·m1/2) remained for the high-entropy Sr(Y0.2Sm0.2Gd0.2Dy0.2Yb0.2)2O4 ceramic, making it a promising material for next-generation thermal barrier coatings.  相似文献

Six rare-earth tantalate high-entropy ceramics of (5RE.2)Ta3O9 (RE represents any five elements selected from La, Ce, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd) were designed and prepared by spark plasma sintering process at 1400°C in this study. The (5RE.2)Ta3O9 ceramics only consist of a single-phase solid solution with perovskite structure. Their relative densities are all above 90%, and the average grain size is in the range of 1.47–2.92 μm. The thermal conductivity of (5RE.2)Ta3O9 ceramics is in 2.24–1.90 W m−1 K−1 (25°C–500°C), which is much lower than that of yttria-stabilized zirconia. In six samples, (La.2Nd.2Sm.2Gd.2Eu.2)Ta3O9 possesses a thermal conductivity of 1.90 W m−1 K−1, a thermal expansion coefficient of 3.47 × 10−6 K−1 (500°C), a Vickers hardness of about 7.33 GPa, and a fracture toughness of about 5.20 MPa m1/2, which are suitable for its application as thermal barrier coatings.  相似文献

Pursuing novel thermal barrier–coating materials with lower thermal conductivity and high-temperature stability can simultaneously improve the working efficiency and service temperature of a gas turbine. In this study, a series of high-entropy RE2(Y0.2Yb0.2Nb0.2Ta0.2Ce0.2)2O7 (RE = La, Nd, Sm, Gd, Dy, and Er) oxides were prepared though solid-state reaction. Through tuning the rare-earth cations, an order–disorder transition occurs from certain partially ordered weberite structure (C2221) to disordered defective fluorite structure (Fm3¯ $\bar{3}$m). All the high-entropy RE2(Y0.2Yb0.2Nb0.2Ta0.2Ce0.2)2O7 oxides possess low thermal conductivity in the range of 0.91–1.34 W m−1 K−1 at room temperature, which can be attributed to increased lattice anharmonicity and disorder, resulting in additional phonon scattering. Herein, we proved that the incorporation of heterovalent cations at B-sites in high-entropy A2B2O7 crystals is an effective strategy to reduce the thermal conductivity without compromising the decrease of oxygen vacancy. Moreover, the high-entropy RE2(Y0.2Yb0.2Nb0.2Ta0.2Ce0.2)2O7 oxides show the relatively higher thermal expansion coefficients of 10.3–10.7 × 10−6°C−1 and excellent phase stability at elevated temperatures.  相似文献

In this work, RENbO4 (RE = Y, La, Nd, Sm, Gd, Dy, Yb) ceramics with low density, low Young's modulus, low thermal conductivity, and high thermal expansion have been systematically investigated, the excellent thermo-mechanical properties indicate that RENbO4 ceramics possess the potential as the new generation of thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) materials. X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy phase structure identification reveal that all dense bulk specimens obtained by high-temperature solid-state reaction belonged to the monoclinic (m) phase with C12/c1 space group. The ferroelastic domains are detected in the specimens, revealing the ferroelastic transformation between tetragonal (t) and monoclinic (m) phases of RENbO4 ceramics. The Young's modulus and hardness of the RENbO4 ceramics measured by the NanoBlitz 3D nanoindentation method are discussed in details, and the lower Young's modulus (60-170 GPa) and higher hardness (the maximum value reaches 11.48 GPa) indicating that higher resistance of RENbO4 ceramics to failure and damage. Lower thermal conductivity (1.42-2.21 W [m k]−1 at 500°C-900°C) and lower density (5.330-7.400 g/cm3) than other typical TBCs materials give RENbO4 ceramics the unique advantage of being new TBCs materials. Meanwhile, the thermal expansion coefficients of RENbO4 ceramics reach 9.8-11.6 × 10−6 k−1 and are comparable or higher than other typical TBCs materials. According to the first-order derivative of the thermal expansion rate, the temperature of the ferroelastic transformation of RENbO4 ceramics can be observed.  相似文献

A novel (Sm0.2Lu0.2Dy0.2Yb0.2Y0.2)3TaO7 (SLT-5RE0.2) oxide with a single-fluorite structure was synthesized via an optimized sol-gel and sintering method, and its crystal structure, mechanical and thermophysical properties were investigated. The results indicate that the calcined nanoscale powder is of high crystallinity, and bulk sample is of a uniform elemental distribution. Compared to YSZ (6–8 wt.% Y2O3 partially stabilized by ZrO2), SLT-5RE0.2 exhibits lower Young's modulus, less mean acoustic velocity, and higher Vickers microhardness. Owing to the strengthened anharmonic vibration and phonon scattering, SLT-5RE0.2 exhibits low thermal conductivity (1.107 W K?1·m?1, 900 °C). The high thermal expansion coefficient (11.3 × 10?6 K?1, 1200 °C) of SLT-5RE0.2 ceramic can be ascribed to the reduced lattice energy and ionic spacing as well as the cocktail effect of high-entropy ceramics. The excellent mechanical and thermophysical properties, and excellent phase steadiness during the whole testing temperature cope, indicate that SLT-5RE0.2 high-entropy ceramic can be a candidate material for thermal barrier coatings.  相似文献

To explore the mechanism of phase transformation, YTa3O9 was prepared by an integrated one-step synthesis and sintering method at 1500 °C using Y2O3 and Ta2O5 powders as starting materials. High-temperature XRD patterns and Raman spectra showed that a phase transformation from orthorhombic to tetragonal took place in YTa3O9 through the bond length and angle changes at 300–400 °C, which caused a thermal conductivity rise. To inhibit the phase transformation, a high-entropy (Y0.2La0.2Ce0.2Nd0.2Gd0.2)Ta3O9 (HE RETa3O9) was designed and synthesized at 1550 °C using the integrated solid-state synthesis and sintering method. In tetragonal structured HE RETa3O9, phase transformation was inhibited by the high-entropy effect. Furthermore, HE RETa3O9 exhibited low thermal conductivity, and its tendency to increase with temperature was alleviated (1.69 W/m·K, 1073 K). Good phase stability, low thermal conductivity and comparable fracture toughness to YSZ make HE RETa3O9 promising as a new thermal barrier coating material.  相似文献

Thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) are one of the most important materials in gas turbine to protect the high temperature components. RETa3O9 compounds have a defect‐perovskite structure, indicating that they have low thermal conductivity, which is the critical property of TBCs. Herein, dense RETa3O9 bulk ceramics were fabricated via solid‐state reaction. The crystal structure was characterized by X‐ray diffraction (XRD) and Raman Spectroscope. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) was used to observe the microstructure. The thermophysical properties of RETa3O9 were studied systematically, including specific heat, thermal diffusivity, thermal conductivity, thermal expansion coefficients, and high‐temperature phase stability. The thermal conductivities of RETa3O9 are very low (1.33‐2.37 W/m·K, 373‐1073 K), which are much lower than YSZ and La2Zr2O7; and the thermal expansion coefficients range from 4.0 × 10?6 K?1 to 10.2×10?6 K?1 (1273 K), which is close to La2Zr2O7 and YSZ. According to the differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) curve there is not phase transition at the test temperature. Due to the high melting point and excellent high‐temperature phase stability with these oxides, RETa3O9 ceramics were promising candidate materials for TBCs.  相似文献

We report a double-ceramic-layer (DCL) thermal barrier coating (TBC) with high-entropy rare-earth zirconate (HE-REZ) as the top layer and yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ) as the inner layer sprayed on Ni-based superalloy by atmospheric plasma spraying. La2Zr2O7 (LZ) was selected as a reference for the HE-REZ. Thermal cycling test results demonstrate that the HE-REZ/YSZ DCL coating exhibited obviously improved thermal stability when compared to the LZ/YSZ DCL coating. The reasons for the improvement of the thermal shock resistance are considered to be the anti-sinterability of the HE-REZ ceramics during the thermal cycling test attributed to the sluggish diffusion effect and as well as the better match in the coefficient of thermal expansion of HE-REZ coating with the YSZ inner layer. In addition, the HE-REZ coating maintains fluorite structure after thermal cycling test. This study makes one step forward in the development and application of high-entropy rare-earth zirconate ceramic thermal barrier coatings.  相似文献

As a novel candidate of thermal barrier coatings materials proposed recently, rare earth tantalates (RETaO4) are attractive series because of its excellent attributes. With respect to RETaO4 compound, it exists at least three types of polymorphs and two phase-transformation mechanisms. In this paper, the monoclinic (Y1-xYbx)TaO4 compounds with diverse space groups are investigated systematically, and contents involve phase, microstructural and thermophysical properties’ evolution with the changes of composition and structure. The primary purpose of this paper is to optimize the thermophysical properties of (Y1-xYbx)TaO4 ceramics by adjusting the Y/Yb ratio, and further physical mechanisms of its heat transfer are also revealed.  相似文献

Single phase (Lu0.2Yb0.2Er0.2Y0.2Gd0.2)PO4 was synthesized, and its thermal properties and CMAS resistance were investigated to explore its potential as an environmental barrier coating (EBC) candidate. The high entropy phosphate (Lu0.2Yb0.2Er0.2Y0.2Gd0.2)PO4 displays a lower thermal conductivity (2.86 W m−1 K−1 at 1250 K) than all the single component xenotime phase rare-earth phosphates. Interaction of (Lu0.2Yb0.2Er0.2Y0.2Gd0.2)PO4 pellets with CMAS at 1300 °C led to the formation of a dense and uniformed Ca8MgRE(PO4)7 reaction layer, which halted the CMAS penetration into the bulk pellet. At 1400 and 1500 °C the (Lu0.2Yb0.2Er0.2Y0.2Gd0.2)PO4-CMAS corrosion showed CMAS penetrating beyond the reaction layer into the bulk pellet via the grain boundaries, and SiO2 precipitates remaining at the pellet surface. The effects of duration, temperature, and compositions on the resistance against CMAS corrosion are discussed within the context of optimizing materials design and performance of high entropy rare-earth phosphates as candidates for advanced EBC applications.  相似文献

Here, we report a novel high-entropy rare earth zirconate (HE-REZ) (Sm0.2Eu0.2Tb0.2Dy0.2Lu0.2)2Zr2O7 ceramic aerogel prepared through a sol-gel template method and high-temperature calcination followed by 3-D-structure reconstruction. The structural evolution and crystallisation behaviour of the prepared aerogel were characterised through scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. The results indicated that the as-prepared HE-REZ ceramic aerogels had a typical nanoporous structure. The HE-REZ ceramic aerogels thermally treated at 900 °C presented an ultralow room temperature thermal conductivity of 0.031 W/(m·K), high specific surface areas of 443.26 m2/g and a relatively high strength of 12.95 MPa. The effects of different calcination temperatures on the microstructure of the samples were also investigated. Therefore, the excellent insulation performance of these unique HE-REZ ceramic aerogels indicate that they can be used as high-temperature insulators for hypersonic vehicles in the future.  相似文献

In this work, RE3NbO7 ceramics are synthesized via solid‐state reaction and the phase structure is characterized by X‐ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy. The relationship between crystal structure and thermophysical properties is determined. Except Sm3NbO7, each RE3NbO7 exhibits excellent high‐temperature phase stability. The thermal expansion coefficients increase with the decreasing RE3+ ionic radius, which depends on the decreasing crystal lattice energy and the maximum value reaches 11.0 × 10?6 K?1 at 1200°C. The minimum thermal conductivity of RE3NbO7 reaches 1.0 W m?1 K?1 and the glass‐like thermal conductivity of Dy3NbO7 is dominant by the high concentration of oxygen vacancy and the local structural order. The outstanding thermophysical properties pronounce that RE3NbO7 ceramics are potential thermal barrier coating materials.  相似文献

High-performance ceramics with low thermal conductivity, high mechanical properties, and idea thermal expansion coefficients have important applications in fields such as turbine blades and automotive engines. Currently, the thermal conductivity of ceramics has been significantly reduced by local doping/substitution or further high-entropy reconfiguration of the composition, but the mechanical properties, especially the fracture toughness, are insufficient and still need to be improved. In this work, based on the high-entropy titanate pyrochlore, TiO2 was introduced for composite toughening and the high-entropy (Ho0.2Y0.2Dy0.2Gd0.2Eu0.2)2Ti2O7-xTiO2 (x = 0, 0.2, 0.4, 1.0 and 2.0) composites with high hardness (16.17 GPa), Young's modulus (289.3 GPa) and fracture toughness (3.612 MPa·m0.5), low thermal conductivity (1.22 W·m−1·K−1), and thermal expansion coefficients close to the substrate material (9.5 ×10−6/K) were successfully prepared by the solidification method. The fracture toughness of the composite toughened sample is 2.25 times higher than that before toughening, which exceeds most of the current low-thermal conductivity ceramics.  相似文献

The (La0.2Gd0.2Y0.2Yb0.2Er0.2)2(Zr1-xTix)2O7 (x = 0–0.5) high-entropy ceramics were successfully prepared by a solid state reaction method and their structures and thermo-physical properties were investigated. It was found that the high-entropy ceramics demonstrate pure pyrochlore phase with the composition of x = 0.1–0.5, while (La0.2Gd0.2Y0.2Yb0.2Er0.2)2Zr2O7 shows the defective fluorite structure. The sintered high-entropy ceramics are dense and the grain boundaries are clean. The grain size of high-entropy ceramics increases with the Ti4+ content. The average thermal expansion coefficients of the (La0.2Gd0.2Y0.2Yb0.2Er0.2)2(Zr1-xTix)2O7 high-entropy ceramics range from 10.65 × 10?6 K?1 to 10.84 × 10?6 K?1. Importantly, the substitution of Zr4+ with Ti4+ resulted in a remarkable decrease in thermal conductivity of (La0.2Gd0.2Y0.2Yb0.2Er0.2)2(Zr1-xTix)2O7 high-entropy ceramics. It reduced from 1.66 W m?1 K?1 to 1.20 W m?1 K?1, which should be ascribed to the synergistic effects of mass disorder, size disorder, mixed configuration entropy value and rattlers.  相似文献

High-entropy ceramics have been extensively studied because of their novel intrinsic properties and have significant potential for application in various fields. In this study, a novel high-entropy transparent ceramic phosphor (Y0.2La0.2Gd0.2Yb0.2Dy0.2)2Zr2O7 was successfully prepared via a solid-state reaction and vacuum sintering. X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy analyses were performed to analyze the phases and microstructures of the as-prepared powders and sintered ceramics. The highest in-line transmittance of the developed ceramic was 74 % in both visible and infrared regions. To reveal its luminescent properties as a potential WLED material, the photoluminescence of ceramic samples was analyzed using multi-excitation and emission spectra. Strong emissions originating from Dy3+ and Gd3+ were observed, and the emission color was effectively regulated under multi-wavelength excitation. Combining excellent optical transmittance with unique photoluminescence performance, the (Y0.2La0.2Gd0.2Yb0.2Dy0.2)2Zr2O7 high-entropy transparent ceramics can find potential applications as a novel WLED material with multi-wavelength excitation and tunable emission.  相似文献

Thermal insulation materials can provide thermal protection in extreme environments. Ceramic fibers have played an important role in the thermal protection field at high temperatures due to the advantages of low density, high strength, low thermal conductivity, and excellent thermal stability. In this work, high entropy (Y0.2Sm0.2Gd0.2Er0.2Ho0.2)3NbO7 (5RE3NbO7) nanofibers were fabricated by electrospinning and subsequent calcination. Defective fluorite-structured 5RE3NbO7 nanofibers were obtained when heated at 900°C. The research indicates that 5RE3NbO7 nanofiber based porous ceramics present an ultralow thermal conductivity (0.0992 W/m·K, porosity of 78.18%), good thermal stability, and high spectral reflectance, which establish the foundation for applications in thermal insulation.  相似文献

Ferroelastic YTaO4 is a promising material for thermal barrier coatings (TBCs), and its thermal and mechanical properties can be further optimized by various methods. In this study, a ferroelastic middle-entropy ceramic Y0.5Gd0.5Ta0.5Nb0.5O4 was synthesized by solid-phase sintering, and its microstructures and thermophysical properties were key points. We determined the contributions of phonons and photons to total thermal conductivity, and a low thermal conductivity was obtained by inhibiting high-temperature thermal radiation. The thermal expansion coefficients were improved by introducing of Nb atom into the lattice of the prepared middle-entropy ceramic, which meets the requirements of TBCs. The improved wear resistance originated from relatively high Young's modulus and the hardness of Y0.5Gd0.5Ta0.5Nb0.5O4, and it would contribute to the service performance of the corresponding coatings. This work motivates the engineering applications of ferroelastic RETaO4 and RENbO4 (RE is rare-earth element) as high-temperature TBCs.  相似文献

A new high-entropy ceramic (Lu0.2Yb0.2Er0.2Tm0.2Sc0.2)2Si2O7 ((5RE0.2)2Si2O7) was proposed as a potential environmental barrier coating (EBC) material for ceramics matrix composites in this work. Experimental results showed that the (5RE0.2)2Si2O7 synthesized by solid-phase sintering was a monoclinic solid solution and had good phase stability proved by no obvious absorption/exothermic peak in the DSC curve from room temperature to 1400 °C. It performed a lower coefficient of thermal expansion (2.08 ×10?6-4.03 ×10?6 °C?1) and thermal conductivity (1.76–2.99 W?m?1?°C?1) compared with the five single principal RE2Si2O7. In water vapor corrosion tests, (5RE0.2)2Si2O7 also exhibited better water vapor corrosion resistance attributed to the multiple doping effects. The weight loss was only 3.1831 × 10?5 g?cm?2 after 200 h corrosion at 1500 °C, which was lower than that of each single principal RE2Si2O7. Therefore, (5RE0.2)2Si2O7 could be regarded as a remarkable candidate for EBCs.  相似文献

High-entropy ceramics exhibit great application potential as thermal barrier coating (TBC) materials. Herein, a series of novel high-entropy ceramics with RE2(Ce0.2Zr0.2Hf0.2Sn0.2Ti0.2)2O7 (RE2HE2O7, RE = Y, Ho, Er, or Yb) compositions were fabricated via a solid-state reaction. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and energy dispersive spectrometry (EDS) mapping analyses confirmed that RE2HE2O7 formed a single defect fluorite structure with uniform elemental distribution. The thermophysical properties of the RE2HE2O7 ceramics were investigated systematically. The results show that RE2HE2O7 ceramics have excellent high-temperature phase stability, high thermal expansion coefficients (10.3–11.7 × 10?6 K-1, 1200 ℃), and low thermal conductivities (1.10-1.37 W m-1 K-1, 25 ℃). In addition, RE2HE2O7 ceramics have a high Vickers hardness (13.7–15.0 GPa) and relatively low fracture toughness (1.14-1.27 MPa m0.5). The outstanding properties of the RE2HE2O7 ceramics indicate that they could be candidates for the next generation of TBC materials.  相似文献
