Designing an effective and high performance network requires accurate characterization and modeling of network traffic. This paper provides a study of the transmission, modeling, and analysis of variable bit rate (VBR) video, which is fundamental for designing protocols and for effective utilization of networks in video transmission. To meet the specified requirements of future networks, the scalable video codec (SVC) was chosen as the video compression standard. The main objective of this work was to propose a statistical model that will allow better coordination between generated SVC video traffic and original video traffic. The performance of the proposed model was evaluated by comparing the model with three existing low‐complex statistical models using graphical and statistical measurements as well as cross‐validation. For all evaluation techniques, the accuracy of the proposed model was evaluated, and the frame size distribution of the modeled traffic was found to match that of the original video traffic better than other existing models. The aggregate capacity of a wireless mesh network (WMN) is severely affected by interflow interference. In this paper, we propose a network architecture that incorporates directional antennas with multiple orthogonal channels to effectively enhance the performance of WMNs. First, a sectored connectivity graph is introduced to model multiradio multichannel WMNs with directional antennas. Next we formulate the topology design, directional interface assignment, channel allocation, and routing mathematically as a mixed integer linear programming problem. This problem is solved using an iterated local search algorithm to obtain optimized network resource allocation. Simulation results indicate that the proposed architecture can achieve higher packet delivery ratio while providing better network fairness. Copyright © 2014 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

During the first six months of data taking the Fermi satellite was capable to detect gamma ray emission of the nearby supernova remnant IC443 (G189.1+3.0). IC443 is a shell-type supernova remnant located in the anticenter region where observation can be made clean enough from possible foreground and background overlap, even though care has to be taken due to the vicinity of one of the brightest gamma-ray pulsars, Geminga. IC443 estimated age (20–30 kyr) and the observed two-shell morphology with different radii suggest that the SNR shell has been interacting with surrounding interstellar matter and a neighboring SNR shell. Also the detection of strong molecular emission lines and TeV gamma-ray emission support the idea that the blast has been interacting with dense molecular gas accelerating cosmic-ray particle. After the first year of data taking, Fermi will be surely capable to determine the spatial extension and resolve in much finer details the spectral shape of the gamma-ray emission produced by the accelerated cosmic rays in IC443 distinguished from those of galactic origin.  相似文献

Cosmic ray antiprotons provide an important probe for the study of cosmic-ray propagation in the interstellar space and to investigate the existence of Galactic dark matter. Cosmic rays are hampered by the Moon, therefore a deficit of cosmic rays in its direction is expected (the so-called Moon shadow). The Earth–Moon system acts as a magnetic spectrometer. In fact, due to the geomagnetic field the center of the Moon shifts westward by an amount depending on the primary cosmic ray energy. Paths of primary antiprotons are therefore deflected in an opposite sense in their way to the Earth. This effect allows, in principle, the search of antiparticles in the opposite direction of the observed Moon shadow.The ARGO-YBJ experiment, in stable data taking since November 2007 with an energy threshold of a few 100s of GeV, is observing the Moon shadow with high statistical significance. Using about 1 year data, an upper limit of the flux ratio in the few-TeV energy region is set to a few percent with a confidence level of 90%.  相似文献

We have demonstrated, for the first time, a novel three-dimensional (3D) memory chip architecture of stacked-memory-devices-on-logic (SMOL) achieving up to 95% of cell-area efficiency by directly building up memory devices on top of front-end CMOS devices. In order to realize the SMOL, a unique 3D Flash memory device and vertical integration structure have been successfully developed. The SMOL architecture has great potential to achieve tera-bit level memory density by stacking memory devices vertically and maximizing cell-area efficiency. Furthermore, various emerging devices could replace the 3D memory device to develop new 3D chip architectures.  相似文献

The physical properties of HfO2 and Hf-silicate layers grown by the atomic layer chemical vapor deposition are characterized as a function of the Hf concentration and the annealing temperature. The peaks of Fourier transform infrared spectra at 960, 900, and 820 cm-1 originate from Hf-O-Si chemical bonds, revealing that a Hf-silicate interfacial layer began to form at the HfO2/SiO 2 interface after post deposition annealing process at 600 degC for 1 min. Moreover, the intensity of the peak at 750 cm-1 can indicate the degree of crystallization of HfO2. The formed Hf-silicate layer between HfO2 and SiO2 is also confirmed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy  相似文献

The objective of restoring missing teeth with implant-supported restorations should not merely be achieving osseointegration with an implant and a biomechanically sound restoration. The objective must be the esthetic and functional restoration of the missing teeth. To achieve this, proper treatment planning is critical. Precise implant placement and delicate soft-tissue manipulation during surgery will allow the restorative dentist to enhance the peri-implant soft-tissue contours with the use of provisional restorations. Empirically, it seems that the earlier the provisional restoration is delivered in the treatment process the more ideal the esthetics. Several methods of using provisional restorations to enhance soft-tissue contours are presented. The concept of immediately delivering provisional restorations on placement of an implant is discussed.  相似文献

AIM: The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical use of mivacurium, a short-acting, non-depolarising muscle relaxant, in the paediatric population in Singapore. METHODS: Twenty children between the ages of 2 and 12 years were given mivacurium to maintain neuromuscular blockade during nitrous oxide-halothane anaesthesia. Reversal from neuromuscular blockade was spontaneous. The onset, ease of intubation after different doses of mivacurium, and the ease of reversal were evaluated. RESULTS: Different intubating doses of mivacurium did not result in significantly different times of onset. The mean recovery index (25% to 75% recovery) was 4.1 minutes. There were no adverse reactions. CONCLUSIONS: Mivacurium provided rapid and efficacious onset of neuromuscular blockade in the local paediatric population. Rapid spontaneous recovery obviated the need for reversal agents.  相似文献
