This paper reports an experimental and numerical investigation on the scaling effects in the flow hydrodynamics for confined microdroplets induced by a surface acoustic wave (SAW). The characteristic parameters of the flow hydrodynamics were studied as a function of the separation height, H, between the LiNbO3 substrate and a top glass plate, for various droplets volumes and radio-frequency powers. The ratio of the gap height to attenuation length of the SAW, H/l SAW, is shown to be an important parameter affecting the streaming flow induced in this confined regime. The reported numerical and experimental results are in good agreement over the range examined in this study and demonstrate that, at a lower gap heights of H?≤?100?μm, a significant decrease in streaming velocity or Reynolds number is induced, with the velocity approaching zero when the gap height is decreased to ~50?μm. An increase in the gap height results in an increased streaming velocity; however, if the gap height exceeds 70?% of the SAW attenuation length, any further increase in the gap height induces a drop in the streaming velocity. 相似文献

Phase transformation and microstructural evolution in commercial titanium alloys are extremely complex. Traditional models
that characterize microstructural features by average values without capturing the anisotropy and spatially varying aspects
may not be sufficient to quantitatively define the microstructure and hence to allow for establishing a robust microstructure-property
relationship. This article discusses recent efforts in integrating thermodynamic modeling and phase-field simulation to develop
computational tools for quantitative prediction of phase equilibrium and spatiotemporal evolution of microstructures during
thermal processing that account explicitly for precipitate morphology, spatial arrangement, and anisotropy. The rendering
of the predictive capabilities of the phase-field models as fast-acting design tools through the development of constitutive
equations is also demonstrated.

Random-effects regression modelling is proposed for analysis of correlated grouped-time survival data. Two analysis approaches are considered. The first treats survival time as an ordinal outcome, which is either right-censored or not. The second approach treats survival time as a set of dichotomous indicators of whether the event occurred for time periods up to the period of the event or censor. For either approach both proportional hazards and proportional odds versions of the random-effects model are developed, while partial proportional hazards and odds generalizations are described for the latter approach. For estimation, a full-information maximum marginal likelihood solution is implemented using numerical quadrature to integrate over the distribution of multiple random effects. The quadrature solution allows some flexibility in the choice of distributions for the random effects; both normal and rectangular distributions are considered in this article. An analysis of a dataset where students are clustered within schools is used to illustrate features of random-effects analysis of clustered grouped-time survival data. 相似文献

Dynamic mechanical measurements between — 180°C and 180°C were made on both isotropic and drawn samples of polybutene-1 (PB-1) and poly-4-methylpentene-1 (P4MB1) over a wide frequency range by the use of a torsional pendulum (0.3–3 Hz), a viscoelastic spectrometer (5–90 Hz) and ultrasonic technique (3 MHz). The relaxation peaks were identified and the associated activation energies determined from Arrhenius plots. For PB-1 it was observed that orientation reduces the height and shifts up the temperature of the αa-peak associated with large scale main-chain motion in the amorphous regions, but has little effect on the β-peak associated with side-group motion. In addition to the αa and β relaxations a high-temperature crystalline relaxation (αc) is also observed in P4MP1. For both the αc and β relaxations the mechanical loss at 45° to the draw direction is much larger than that at 90°, which indicates that shear processes are involved in these relaxations. 相似文献

Tape casting and hot-pressing were used to produce metal/ alumina laminate composites. The mechanical behavior of these laminates was characterized. The strength and toughness of the laminates were greatly improved in comparison to that of monolithic alumina. Indentation strength values of the laminates remained approximately constant for indent loads between 10 and 100 N. Thus, this type of laminate appears to be a good candidate for damage-tolerant composite material design. 相似文献
