A fluorescent converter for fast neutron radiography (FNR) comprising a scintillator and hydrogen-rich resin has been developed and applied to electronic imaging. The rate of the reaction between fast neutrons and the converter is increased by thickening the converter, but its opaqueness attenuates emitted light photons before they reach its surface. To improve the luminosity of a fluorescent converter for FNR, a novel type of converter was designed in which wavelength-shifting fibers were adopted to transport radiated light to the observation end face. The performance of the converter was compared with that of a polypropylene-based fluorescent converter in an experiment conducted at the fast-neutron-source reactor YAYOI in the University of Tokyo.  相似文献

To confirm the reliability of the theory of phase equibria of multicomponent polymer 1/multicomponent polymer 2 systems (i.e. quasi-binary systems) and the method of computer experiment based on this theory (Brit. Polym. J., 23 (1990)285; 23 (1990)299; Polym. Int., 29 (1992)219), could point curves (CPC), two-phase volume ratios ( R ) and critical solution points (CSP) have been determined experimentally for the quasi-binary mixtures of poly(ethylene oxide) (w = 647, w/n = 1.15; w and n, the weight-average and numberaverage molecular weights, respectively) and poly(propylene oxide) (w = 2028, w/n = 1.08; and Mw = 2987, Mw/Mn = 1.13). The hydroxyl end groups of both polymers were methoxylated in advance by the Cooper & Booth method (Polymer, 18 (1977)164). The thermodynamic interaction parameter between both polymers, χ12, and the concentration dependence parameters for the above quasi-binary systems were determined by the method proposed in a previous paper (Brit. Polym. J., 23 (1990)299). CPC, R and CSP values calculated on the basis of the theory are in good agreement with the values determined experimentally.  相似文献

A series of mixtures of Japanese subbituminous Taiheiyo coal and Athabasca oil sand bitumen (AOB) with various coal concentrations (0–100 wt%) was coprocessed in a 70 ml autoclave at 420°C for 1 h in the presence of H2 (50 kg/cm2 at room temperature) and sulfided Ni---Mo/Al2O2 catalyst. The mixture containing 2 wt% coal produced the largest amount of hexane soluble fraction (HS) and the smallest amount of benzene insoluble fraction (BI). Thus, a synergistic liquid production occurred for this mixture with 2 wt% coal by suppressing the retrogressive reactions which proceeded for pure AOB. The HS obtained from mixtures with 2–30 wt% showed higher H/C ratios and lower heteroatom contents than those obtained from pure AOB and the mixtures with more than 30 wt% coal. The amounts of transferable hydrogen contained in the mixtures were estimated using anthracene as a hydrogen acceptor. The mixtures with 2–10 wt% coal contained higher amounts of donor hydrogen than pure AOB. The HS yield from the various mixtures was correlated with the amount of donor hydrogens contained in the mixtures, except for the mixture with 10 wt% coal. Thus, the important factor which results in synergism is suggested to be the amount of donor hydrogens contained in the feed mixtures.  相似文献

The absorption spectrum of poly(3-alkylthiophene) gel changes drastically in association with a volume instability upon changing the solvent composition and also the temperature. In the expanded state in chloroform and at high temperature, the photoluminescence is much enhanced compared with the shrunken state in ethanol and at low temperature. This gel chromism and anomalous luminescence are discussed in terms of the change of effective conjugation length induced by the steric hindrance and the dynamics of the photoexcited species.  相似文献

Bonding of ceramics to metals was carried out by using thermal sprayed coatings as interlayer materials. This bonding method is referred as the thermal spray bonding. In the present study, Si3N4 and Al2O3 ceramics were bonded to SS41 mild steel using activated Ti-Cu multilayer coatings plasma-sprayed on the steel in a low pressure atmosphere. The bondability was estimated by SEM/EDX analysis and shear tests of the joints. The results were compared to those obtained using Ti-Cu multilayer foils as interlayers. When using Ti-Cu foils as interlayers, brittle Fe-Ti compound layers were formed in the joint area after long time heating at a bonding temperature of 900°C, which deteriorated the joint strength. In contrast with the activated interlayers made by plasma spraying, the Ti-Cu eutectic reaction took place uniformly at the joint immediately after heating to the bonding temperature. This improved the bondabilrty, and the resultant joints exhibited shear strengths of about 180 MPa.  相似文献

In this paper we demonstrate a new method for microfabricating PDMS devices that controls vapour diffusion, thereby reducing water loss at elevated temperatures and greatly increasing the reliability of the PCR. In the past, the vapour and liquid diffusion properties of the PDMS material in microfluidic devices have impaired performance. We show that this water loss is primarily due to vapour diffusion from the PDMS biochip and by implanting a polyethylene vapour barrier layer in the PDMS, the overall fluid loss was almost eliminated (reduced by a factor of 3). We have also developed a procedure to ensure irreversible bonding between the PDMS and the implant. With this improved microfabrication method we demonstrate the feasibility and advantages of performing small volume PCR genetic amplification (i.e. with less than 2 μl of PCR sample) within a PDMS–glass hybrid biochip. Diaphragm pumps and pinch-off valves were integrated in the system and these enabled fluid retention during the amplification stage and will facilitate higher levels of on-chip automation.  相似文献

Methods of suppressing decreased conductivity in 8 mol% Y2O3-stabilized–92 mol% ZrO2 (8YSZ) with aging were investigated. Different amounts of Sc2O3 were doped into 8YSZ. The electrochemical properties of Sc2O3-doped 8YSZ were measured, and the microstructural and local structural changes were characterized. The present results indicate that an appropriate amount of Sc2O3 doping, 3 or 4 mol%, effectively suppresses decreased conductivity with aging in 8YSZ.  相似文献
