Calmodulin (CaM) is an important intracellular protein that binds Ca2+ and functions as a critical second messenger involved in numerous biological activities through extensive interactions with proteins and peptides. CaM’s ability to adapt to binding targets with different structures is related to the flexible central helix separating the N- and C-terminal lobes, which allows for conformational changes between extended and collapsed forms of the protein. CaM-binding targets are most often identified using prediction algorithms that utilize sequence and structural data to predict regions of peptides and proteins that can interact with CaM. In this review, we provide an overview of different CaM-binding proteins, the motifs through which they interact with CaM, and shared properties that make them good binding partners for CaM. Additionally, we discuss the historical and current methods for predicting CaM binding, and the similarities and differences between these methods and their relative success at prediction. As new CaM-binding proteins are identified and classified, we will gain a broader understanding of the biological processes regulated through changes in Ca2+ concentration through interactions with CaM.  相似文献

Over the last century, IQ scores have been steadily rising, a phenomenon dubbed the Flynn effect. Because of the Flynn effect, IQ tests are periodically renormed, making them harder. Given that eligibility for mental retardation (MR) services relies heavily on IQ scores, renormed tests could have a significant impact on MR placements. In longitudinal IQ records from 9 sites around the country, students in the borderline and mild MR range lost an average of 5.6 points when retested on a renormed test and were more likely to be classified MR compared with peers retested on the same test. The magnitude of the effect is large and affects national policies on education, social security, the death penalty, and the military. This paper reports the perceptions of professionals as they relate to IQ score fluctuations in normal, borderline, and/or MR populations. 在分析H.264反变换反量化算法的基础上,提出了一种高效的H.264反变换反量化硬件结构.在反变换中,采用了一个可重构的一维IDCT变换结构;在反量化中,采用了4个反量化单元的并行结构,并通过LUT取代了占用电路面积大的模运算和除法运算;在整体结构设计中,采用了门控时钟方案和流水线技术.结果表明,本设计可提高系统输出能力和降低硬件功耗,并满足1080i高清码流实时解码的要求.  相似文献

This meta-analysis of 62 studies (N=17,767 adopted children) examined whether the cognitive development of adopted children differed from that of (a) children who remained in institutional care or in the birth family and (b) their current (environmental) nonadopted siblings or peers. Adopted children scored higher on IQ tests than their nonadopted siblings or peers who stayed behind, and their school performance was better. Adopted children did not differ from their nonadopted environmental peers or siblings in IQ, but their school performance and language abilities lagged behind, and more adopted children developed learning problems. Taken together, the meta-analyses document the positive impact of adoption on the children's cognitive development and their remarkably normal cognitive competence but delayed school performance. The effects of carrier phase estimation on IQ mismatch compensation are investigated and compared for coherent MIMO optical receiver. We investigate the impacts of phase IQ mismatch on required optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) for coherent MIMO detection. The impacts of number of modes and analog-to-digital converter (ADC) resolution are also evaluated. The results show that decision-directed carrier phase estimator could compensate significant amount of IQ mismatch without employing additional compensation technique, and relaxes requirement of ADC resolution.  相似文献

This letter presents an efficient scheduling algorithm DTRR (Dual-Threshold Round Robin) for input-queued switches. In DTRR, a new matched input and output by round robin in a cell time will be locked by two self-adaptive thresholds whenever the queue length or the wait-time of the head cell in the corresponding Virtual Output Queue (VOQ) exceeds the thresholds. The locked input and output will be matched directly in the succeeding cell time until they are unlocked. By employing queue length and wait-time thresholds which are updated every cell time simultaneously, DTRR achieves a good tradeoff between the performance and hardware complexity. Simulation results indicate that the delay performance of DTRR is competitive compared to other typical scheduling algorithms under various traffic patterns especially under diagonal traffic.  相似文献

提出了实现在一个2.4GHz零中频接收机中的一种正交相位自校准方法.这种方法基于一个采用提出的正交相位检测器的延迟锁定环路来大大减小正交相位误差.该接收机采用0.18μm CMOS工艺实现.测试结果显示正交相位误差可以被校准到1°以内,满足了系统的要求.  相似文献

The goal of this article is to evaluate the relevance of claims concerning the existence of cultural biases in IQ tests. The article has four parts. We first introduce the meaning of the concept of bias in psychometrics by differentiating three inaccurate conceptualizations--equalitarist, standardization and culturalist--that often underlie conclusions about the existence of cultural biases in IQ tests. We then examine potential biases associated with pragmatic validity, conceptual validity, and test administration. Following this examination of the available evidence related to biases affecting the validity of IQ tests, the clear conclusion is that claims often made about the existence of cultural biases in IQ tests are unjustified.
