针对基于ATM的无源光网络(ATM-PON)设计了一种媒质接入控制(MAC)协议。该协议的设计遵照ITU-T有关ATM-PON的建议G.983.1(1998年10月)中所定义的帧结构。该协议能够支持CBR/VBR、ABR和UBR等多种业务,并能够保证用户公平地接入和充分地利用网络的资源。其中CBR/VBR业务的优先级最高,同时也确保ABR业务至少能以最小信元通信。系统的剩余带宽资源被分配给UBR业  相似文献

The growing demand of network bandwidth indicates that user access to high speed (i.e. ATM) networks is a key issue. The Inverse Multiplexing for ATM (IMA) is a technology that combines multiple T1/E1 links to support the transparent transmission of ATM cells over one single logical data trunk whose bandwidth is the aggregate of the T1/E1 capacities, minus a small amount due to overhead. That is, it provides high bandwidth by using already deployed WAN infrastructure and at a reasonable cost. Employing this technology, it is possible to dispose of ATM connections with data rates between the T1/E1 (an economical but sometimes too slow option) and T3/E3 ones (with high bandwidth, but expensive for the mass market of users). In this framework, and facing a new technology, it is crucial to have tools (analytical and simulation ones) easy to manipulate that help telecommunication engineers and network planners on the performance evaluation and dimensioning of these systems. In this paper, the fundamentals and major applications of IMA technology are described. Also, the behavior of IMA multiplexers is carefully analyzed and a method to dimension them proposed. An estimate for the Cell Loss Ratio (CLR) and the mean waiting time measured in the IMUX devices are obtained. The analytical study is based on the comparison with a M/D/1 queue system. Even though, we are aware of some weakness of our assumptions, especially concerning the Poisson input traffic, the model is compact, easy to understand and to manipulate, therefore it can be valuable to validate simulation models developed to evaluate IMUX devices under more realistic input traffic patterns.  相似文献

In this paper we study the performance of ATM multiplexing of homogeneous MPEG video sources. A source scheduling method is developed to improve the performance of ATM multiplexer for MPEG video sources. Simulation results show that the level of burstiness for the aggregated MPEG traffic is reduced and the network performance is enhanced. Based on the rationale of the source scheduling method, a simple but efficient bandwidth allocation algorithm is also derived for connection admission of MPEG video in an ATM multiplexer. One of the most promising approaches for high speed networks for integrated service applications is fast packet switching, or ATM (asynchronous transfer mode). ATM can be characterized by very high speed transmission links and simple, hard-wired protocols within a network. To match the transmission speed of the network links, and to minimize the overhead due to the processing of network protocols, the switching of cells is done in hardware switching fabrics in ATM networks. A number of designs have been proposed for implementing ATM switches. Although many differences exist among the proposals, the vast majority of them are based on self-routeing multistage interconnection networks. This is because of the desirable features of multi-stage interconnection networks such as self-routeing capability and suitability for VLSI implementation. Existing ATM switch architectures can be classified into two major classes: blocking switches, where blockings of cells may occur within a switch when more than one cell contends for the same internal link, and non-blocking switches, where no internal blocking occurs. A large number of techniques have also been proposed to improve the performance of blocking and non-blocking switches. In this paper, we present an extensive survey of the existing proposals for ATM switch architectures, focusing on their performance issues.  相似文献

Broadband integrated networks based on asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) technology are being proposed to provide a single integrated access to a variety of services and applications. Constant bit rate services will form an important part of this unified networking solution. In this paper, we identify and describe the relevant aspects related to the implementation of CBR services on ATM. First, we identify two broad categories of potential CBR services for broadband ATM networks. The ATM infrastructure for the identified services is then developed along with the required functionalities of different network elements. Finally, end-to-end performance objectives for the ATM network are determined and verified empirically based on results of laboratory experiments. These performance objectives help us determine the minimum QOS required by the highest class of service category offered by an ATM network.  相似文献

The emergence of nomadic applications have generated much interest in wireless network infrastructures that support real-time communications. We propose a bandwidth routing protocol for quality-of-service (QoS) support in a multihop mobile network. The QoS routing feature is important for a mobile network to interconnect wired networks with QoS support (e.g., ATM, Internet, etc.). The QoS routing protocol can also work in a stand-alone multihop mobile network for real-time applications. This QoS routing protocol contains end-to-end bandwidth calculation and bandwidth allocation. Under such a routing protocol, the source (or the ATM gateway) is informed of the bandwidth and QoS available to any destination in the mobile network. This knowledge enables the establishment of QoS connections within the mobile network and the efficient support of real-time applications. In addition, it enables more efficient call admission control. In the case of ATM interconnection, the bandwidth information can be used to carry out intelligent handoff between ATM gateways and/or to extend the ATM virtual circuit (VC) service to the mobile network with possible renegotiation of QoS parameters at the gateway. We examine the system performance in various QoS traffic flows and mobility environments via simulation. Simulation results suggest distinct performance advantages of our protocol that calculates the bandwidth information. It is particularly useful in call admission control. Furthermore, “standby” routing enhances the performance in the mobile environment. Simulation experiments show this improvement  相似文献
