Interactive sonification of complex data

In this paper we present two experiments on implementing interaction in sonification displays: the first focuses on recorded data (interactive navigation) and the second on data gathered in real time (auditory feedback).Complex synthesised data are explored in the first experiment to evaluate how well the known characteristics present in the data are distinguished using different interaction methods, while real medical data (from physiotherapy) are used for the second.The addition of interaction to the exploration of sonified recorded data improves the system usability (efficiency, effectiveness and user satisfaction), and the real-time sonification of complex physiotherapy data can produce sounds with timbral characteristics that audibly change when important characteristics present in the data vary.     

Dynamic characteristics of voltage induced reciprocated bending in double cantilever configuration of asymmetric comb drive MEMS

The dynamic characteristics of an electrostatically actuated double cantilever beam, often found in asymmetric comb drive microstructures, have been investigated in the present paper. A coupled electromechanical problem is formulated and solved to obtain different performance parameters like pull-in voltage, frequency response etc. Effects of various critical factors on the dynamic pull-in characteristics have been discussed elaborately. It has been further observed through extensive studies that, the dynamic pull-in characteristics differ considerably from the static characteristics for the double beam configuration. Finally, these observations have been supported by experimental results with a fabricated (in SOIMUMPS process) double cantilever based microstructure, using a simple in-house developed low cost test set up. A typical case of design of a closed loop MEMS (microelectromechanical systems) capacitive accelerometer has also been discussed where the present study finds ready applications to predict the dynamic pull-in characteristics more accurately than the conventional lumped model.

为了提高故障诊断性能, 本文对故障特征随时间发展变化的多样性进行了探讨分析. 本文揭示了故障过程呈现时变特性, 即故障过程在不同时段反映出不同的变量相关性, 提出了一种故障时段划分算法. 该算法将故障划分为不同时段, 在每一个时段中, 故障特征被认为是基本类似的. 在此基础上, 针对不同时段建立了不同的故障分解模型, 并揭示了不同故障状态与正常状态的关系. 通过划分不同故障特征, 可以区分不同的故障特征, 建立更精确的重构模型. 该方法很好地阐述了故障的演变行为特征, 能够更精确地进行故障重构从而确定故障原因. 通过在田纳西伊士曼仿真过程上的应用验证了该方法的可行性及诊断性能.

Visual content adaptation according to user perception characteristics

Adapting multimedia content to users' preferences and perceptual characteristics is a key direction for enabling personalized multimedia services. In this paper, we address the problem of tailoring visual content within the MPEG-21 Digital Item Adaptation (DIA) framework to meet users' visual perception characteristics. In particular, we present methods for adapting visual content to accommodate color vision deficiency and low-vision capabilities. In addition, we present methods for adapting visual content according to user preferences for color temperature. Finally, we report on experiments that adapt visual content within the MPEG-21 DIA framework.     

基于树木综合特征的L系统建模

自然界树木具有形状不规则、结构特征强、长势千姿百态的特点,故对其模拟比较困难.而在构建虚拟场景时,常涉及基于树木综合特征的模拟.在深入研究L系统(L-systems)原理的基础上,提出利用L系统进行树木综合特征建模的思想:利用一般L系统进行拓扑结构模拟,采用扩展的L系统描述树木的几何特征,从而克服了一般L系统只能建模拓扑结构的局限.实验结果表明,该方法简单易行,生成图形逼真,此思想具有借鉴意义.
