Surface wave breaking is a challenging two-phase flow process which plays an important role in numerous physical processes. A highly-turbulent unsteady breaking surge was investigated experimentally in a large facility, and substantial aeration occurred in the roller. The application of three optical flow techniques (Lucas-Kanade, Horn-Schunck and Farnback) to the air-water region was tested. The results indicated that the Farnback technique provided most accurate results, although some misleading results could be obtained near the air-water boundaries of the roller. The bore generation by a rapid gate closure showed a highly-unsteady complicated velocity field, with substantial free-surface deformations, wave breaking and formation of large coherent structures before the surge detached from the gate. Further upstream, the surge propagated as a hydraulic jump in translation and the data showed a marked shear region with a recirculation zone above, showing air-water flow features comparable to stationary hydraulic jumps. The upper and lower bounds of air-water flow region yielded data implying an air-to-water velocity ratio about 4–5 for a Froude number Fr1 = 2.1. 相似文献

Anisoplanatic electromagnetic (EM) propagation across a turbulent atmosphere has been recently examined for an unmodulated carrier propagating over an image-bearing transparency through optical lensing, and for the embedded information inside a carrier recovered using heterodyning and digital demodulation. Carrier modulation yielded better recovery than simple lens-based imaging. A possible mitigation strategy is proposed whereby the image information is encrypted on an RF chaotic carrier, thereafter secondarily embedded onto an optical carrier. Results based on the modified von Karman (MVKS) and the Hufnagel-Valley (H-V) models showed that the signal/image recovery under turbulence is improved compared with non-chaotic propagation. The case of time-varying/dynamic images is also taken up; it is demonstrated via cross-correlation products that turbulence is mitigated by the use of chaotic carrier encryption. Overall, transmission via chaos offers mitigation against distortions due to turbulence along with the security feature inherent via the chaos keys which prevent signal recovery without key-matching. 相似文献

Nanofluids have been known as practical materials to ameliorate heat transfer within diverse industrial systems. The current work presents an empirical study on forced convection effects of Al2O3–water nanofluid within an annulus tube. A laminar flow regime has been considered to perform the experiment in high Reynolds number range using several concentrations of nanofluid. Also, the boundary conditions include a constant uniform heat flux applied on the outer shell and an adiabatic condition to the inner tube. Nanofluid particle is visualized with transmission electron microscopy to figure out the nanofluid particles. Additionally, the pressure drop is obtained by measuring the inlet and outlet pressure with respect to the ambient condition. The experimental results showed that adding nanoparticles to the base fluid will increase the heat transfer coefficient (HTC) and average Nusselt number. In addition, by increasing viscosity effects at maximum Reynolds number of 1140 and increasing nanofluid concentration from 1% to 4% (maximum performance at 4%), HTC increases by 18%. 相似文献

A cell vertex finite volume method for the solution of steady compressible turbulent flow problems on unstructured hybrid
meshes of tetrahedra, prisms, pyramids and hexahedra is described. These hybrid meshes are constructed by firstly discretising
the computational domain using tetrahedral elements and then by merging certain tetrahedra. A one equation turbulence model
is employed and the solution of the steady flow equations is obtained by explicit relaxation. The solution process is accelerated
by the addition of a multigrid method, in which the coarse meshes are generated by agglomeration, and by parallelisation.
The approach is shown to be effective for the simulation of a number of 3D flows of current practical interest.

A finite-difference Total Variation Diminishing (TVD) numerical simulation model for coupling the Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations, pressure-relative continuity equation and various k-ε turbulence models was developed to solve the incompressible flow based on the pseudo-compressibility method. The hyperbolicity of all these equations was studied and the discretization of the fully coupling equations with all the primal variables and source terms were made in this article. Numerical simulation for modeling the flow around a ground-mounted square rib was implemented and validated by comparing with the published wind tunnel experimental data. It is shown that such a numerical simulation method with a proper turbulence model has a very good accuracy to simulate the flow around a surface-mounted rib. It is concluded that the Renormalization Group (RNG) and Chen-Kim k-ε turbulence models have much better ability to predict the characteristics of the vortex structure and flow separation than the standard k-ε model. 相似文献
