Fluorescent tracer studies experimentally quantified the spatial distribution of droplet mass transfer and charge transfer characterizing three modes of electrostatic pesticide spraying onto barley-weed-soil target arrays. Droplet charging in the 1.5-4.5 mC/kg range provided significant deposition increases on all plant surfaces while beneficially reducing residues on underlying soil. With the intense space-charge spray clouds utilized (e.g., 10 μC/m3), externally applied driving fields as great as 37 kV/m provided no significant deposition increases but instead exacerbated gaseous charge exchange between the spray cloud and the target via undesirable leaf-tip coronas. Nonuniformity characterized deposition of both uncharged and charged sprays throughout the target array, with no improvement provided by spray-entrainment air velocities as great as 2 m/s. Results will guide prototype design by establishing the relative importance of the space charge, the applied field, and the aerodynamic force components for selectively targeting specific sites within living-plant arrays.  相似文献

The levels of individual PBDE congeners were investigated in the invertebrate species whelk (Buccinum undatum), seastar (Asterias rubens), and hermit crab (Pagurus bernhardus), the gadoid fish species whiting (Merlangius merlangus) and cod (Gadus morhua), and the marine mammal species harbor seal (Phoca vitulina) and harbor porpoise (Phocoena phocoena). These species are all important representatives of different trophic levels of the North Sea food web. All six major PBDE congeners detected (BDEs 28, 47, 99, 100, 153, and 154) are most prevalent in the commercial Penta-BDE formulation. There is no evidence for the occurrence of the Octa-BDE formulation in the North Sea food web, since its dominant congener, BDE183, was never detected. BDE209, the main congener (> 97%) in the Deca-BDE formulation, was detected only in a minority of the samples and always in concentrations around the limit of detection. Since BDE209 is often the major BDE congener in sediments from the area, the main reason for its low concentrations in biota from the North Sea seems to be a relatively low bioaccumulation potential. This can either be due to a low uptake rate of the very large molecule or a relatively rapid excretion after biotransformation. Since all invertebrates investigated are sentinel species, they are highly representative for the area of capture. The highest lipid-normalized concentrations of PBDEs in the invertebrates occurred near the mouth of the river Tees at the East coast of the UK. The geographical distribution of the PBDEs can be explained by the residual currents in the area. The direction of these currents differs between the summer and the winter season as a result of the presence or absence of vertical summer stratification of the deeper waters north of the Dogger Bank. Summer stratification results in the development of a density-driven bottom water current formed after the onset of vertical stratification of the water column in May leaving the UK coast near Flamborough Head toward the Dogger Bank. In winter, the residual currents run in a more southerly direction and follow the UK coastline. The distribution pattern of the PCBs and p,p'-DDE in the invertebrates was entirely different from that of the PBDEs, which could be expected, since the use of these organochlorines in western Europe peaked in the 1960s and 1970s but has been forbidden more than two decades ago, whereas the production and use of the penta-BDE formulation is of a more recent origin. The higher trophic levels of the North Sea food web were represented by the predatory gadoid fish species whiting and cod and the marine mammal species harbor seal and harbor porpoise. The lipid-normalized levels of the six major PBDE congeners in fish were similar to the levels in the invertebrates, but a biomagnification step in concentrations of generally more than an order of magnitude occurred from gadoid fish to marine mammals. Based on the limited number of samples, no differences could be observed between harbor seal and harbor porpoise. In summary, the results in three species of sentinel invertebrates from a network of stations covering a major part of the North Sea basin showed that the estuary of the river Tees at the UK East coast is a major source for tri- to hexa-PBDEs. Throughout the food-chain, the most marked increase in (lipid-normalized) levels of all six PBDE congeners occurred from predatory (gadoid) fish to marine mammals, agreeing with the transition from gill-breathing to lung-breathing animals. This has serious consequences for the route of elimination of POPs, since their elimination from the blood into the ambient seawater via the gill-membrane is no longer possible.  相似文献

This study investigates the processing of sonar signals with ensemble neural networks for robust recognition of simple objects such as plane, corner and trapezium surface. The ensemble neural networks can differentiate the target objects with high accuracy. The simplified fuzzy ARTMAP (SFAM) and probabilistic ensemble simplified fuzzy ARTMAP (PESFAM) are compared in terms of classification accuracy. The PESFAM implements an accurate and effective probabilistic plurality voting method to combine outputs from multiple SFAM classifiers. Five benchmark data sets have been used to evaluate the applicability of the proposed ensemble SFAM network. The PESFAM achieves good accuracy based on the twofold cross-validation results. In addition, the effectiveness of the proposed ensemble SFAM is delineated in sonar target differentiation. The experiments demonstrate the potential of PESFAM classifiers in offering an optimal solution to the data-ordering problem of SFAM implementation and also as an intelligent classification tool in mobile robot application.  相似文献

The near-eutectic Sn-3.5 wt.% Ag-0.7 wt.% Cu (Sn-3.5Ag-0.7Cu) alloy was doped with rare earth (RE) elements of primarily Ce and La of 0.05–0.25 wt.% to form Sn-3.5Ag-0.7Cu-xRE solder alloys. The aim of this research was to investigate the effect of the addition of RE elements on the microstructure and solderability of this alloy. Sn-3.5Ag-0.7Cu-xRE solders were soldered on copper coupons. The thickness of the intermetallic layer (IML) formed between the solder and Cu substrate just after soldering, as well as after thermal aging at 170°C up to 1000 h, was investigated. It was found that, due to the addition of the RE elements, the size of the Sn grains was reduced. In particular, the addition of 0.1wt.%RE to the Sn-3.5Ag-0.7Cu solder improved the wetting behavior. Besides, the IML growth during thermal aging was inhibited.  相似文献

Constraint satisfaction problems (CSPs) sometimes contain both variable symmetries and value symmetries, causing adverse effects on CSP solvers based on tree search. As a remedy, symmetry breaking constraints are commonly used. While variable symmetry breaking constraints can be expressed easily and propagated efficiently using lexicographic ordering, value symmetry breaking constraints are often difficult to formulate. In this paper, we propose two methods of using symmetry breaking constraints to tackle value symmetries. First, we show theoretically when value symmetries in one CSP correspond to variable symmetries in another CSP of the same problem. We also show when variable symmetry breaking constraints in the two CSPs, combined using channeling constraints, are consistent. Such results allow us to tackle value symmetries efficiently using additional CSP variables and channeling constraints. Second, we introduce value precedence, a notion which can be used to break a common class of value symmetries, namely symmetries of indistinguishable values. While value precedence can be expressed using inefficient if-then constraints in existing CSP solvers, we propose efficient propagation algorithms for implementing global value precedence constraints. We also characterize several theoretical properties of the value precedence constraints. Extensive experiments are conducted to verify the feasibility and efficiency of the two proposals.  相似文献

Room temperature tensile properties of polycrystal Ti–47Al–2Mn–2Nb alloy with near lamellar (NL) microstructures were investigated at the strain rates between 10–5 and 1000 s–1 using a self-designed Split-Hopkinson tensile bar setup with a rotating disk and conventional testing machine. It was found that tensile ductility varies within a narrow range with the strain rate, while dynamic strengths (d) of the alloy are obviously higher than static strengths (s). There exists linear relationship between s and the logarithm of the strain rate (ln ), and between d and the strain rate itself (). Fractography analysis indicates that the alloy fractures in a mixed mode of predominant transgranular cleavage and minor intergranular cracking under static and dynamic strain rates. Environmental effect is excluded from the main cause for the room temperature brittleness of the investigated alloy.  相似文献

Our objective was: (1) to determine the appropriate dose of new ultrasmall superparamagnetic iron oxide particles for magnetic resonance angiography (MRA). This agent comprised of a single iron oxide crystal stabilized with a carbohydrate-polyethylene glycol coat (PEG-Ferron/NC 100150 injection); (2) to determine the proper flip angle for PEG-Ferron-enhanced 3 D time-of-flight (TOF) MRA sequence; and (3) to compare the enhancement of peripheral vessels following PEG-Ferron and GdDTPA-BMA. MRA parameters were: TR/TE = 50/2.1 ms, NEX = 1, FOV = 30 x 30 x 1.8 cm, and matrix = 256 x 128 x 64. In anesthetized beagle dogs (n = 10), the effects of PEG-Ferron and GdDTPA-BMA on regional signal were monitored for 45 min and compared. The lowest dose of PEG-Ferron (0.05 mmol/kg) produced the best enhancement of primary, secondary and tertiary vessels. The flip angle 60 degrees provided better enhancement than 20 degrees on contrast enhanced images. Unlike GdDTPA-BMA, PEG-Ferron allowed prolonged delineation (> 45 min) of the pelvis and lower extremities circulation. PEG-Ferron provided greater Contrast-to-noise ratio CNR (80.2 +/- 6.2, P < 0.05) than GdDTPA-BMA (63.5 +/- 2.5). It may be possible for blood pool contrast-enhanced 3 D TOF MRA to provide valuable information for visualization of vascular tree including guiding interventions.  相似文献

Continuum based integrated circuit process modeling is the dominant tool used to investigate and understand integrated circuit (IC) development. This paper describes the commonly used models for implantation, diffusion, and material growth. In addition, the supporting numerical techniques are described. This paper focuses on the implementation in object oriented code, Florida Object Oriented Process Simulator (FLOOPS). The software architecture is described for implementing models and numerics.
