The high incidence of infections caused by the use of implanted biomedical devices has a severe impact on human health and health care costs. Many studies suggest a strong antimicrobial activity of silver-coated medical devices. However no studies have been reported on the effect of surface energy of silver coatings on bacterial adhesion. In this paper, 4 types of silver coatings with various surface energies were prepared on stainless steel plates using AgNO3 based electroless plating solutions with four different reducing agents, formaldehyde, hydrazine, glucose and potassium sodium tartrate tetrahydrate, respectively. The morphology and surface energy of the silver coatings were characterized with an Atomic Force Microscope and a Dataphysics OCA-20 contact angle analyzer, respectively. The anti-bacterial performance of the silver coatings was evaluated with Pseudomonas aeruginosa PA01, which frequently causes medical device-associated infections. The experimental results showed that bacterial adhesion decreased with the total surface energy of the coatings decreasing, but decreased with the electron donor component increasing. All the silver coatings performed much better than stainless steel in reducing bacterial attachment. The extended DLVO theory was used to explain bacterial adhesion behavior.  相似文献

The potential revenues of water right transactions can be substantial in theory, but the actual receipts are generally limited in practice. This difference is attributable to the presence of other factors influencing the operation of water markets. In this paper, we study the discriminatory-price and the uniform-price sealed-bid procurement auction for divisible items in water right trade wherein commissions define the costs of transactions. We further analyze the quantitative relationships between transaction costs and the revenues of sellers, buyers, and of the auction site. The findings indicate that transaction costs do not affect the margins of bidders because of reluctance to raise quotations. The bidders bear the commissions but impose the transaction costs outwardly on the seller who as a result suffers from reduced revenues. Of the two types the uniform-price auction generates more revenue for sellers than the discriminatory-price auction.  相似文献

应用废旧轮胎橡胶粉铺筑橡胶沥青路面,即可实现废旧轮胎资源化利用,又能提高沥青路面的使用性能。废旧橡胶粉在沥青路面中的应用主要有湿法和干法两种工艺。比较分析了国外湿法橡胶沥青技术标准。认为粘度是控制橡胶沥青性能的核心指标,而搅拌温度和搅拌时间是橡胶沥青生产工艺关键控制参数。针对干法椽胶沥青路面性能不稳定、易出现早期病害的问题,提出了采用间断级配、选用较高粘度结合料、控制橡胶粉粒径等干法橡胶沥青路面铺装关键技术。  相似文献

In this work, a nickel coating with high density nano-scale twins (NT) was synthesized on Q235 steel by using pulsed electrodeposition technique. The effects of NT structure on pitting corrosion resistance and semi-conducting properties of passive films formed on pure Ni in borate buffer solution with chloride ions were investigated by the potentiodynamic polarization measurements and capacitance measurements. The results indicated that the passive films formed on NT coatings showed higher pitting corrosion resistance and a bi-layer semi-conducting structure distribution, comparing with those formed on industrial electrodeposited (IE) nickel. The passive films are p-type semi-conductors at low potentials, but they show an n-type semi-conductor behavior at high potentials. It demonstrated that NT structure decreased vacancy diffusion velocity and slowed down the growth of passive films consequently. This led to the enhancement of pitting resistance for NT nickel.  相似文献

Studying the corrosion behavior of catalyst support materials is significant for understanding the degradation of polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) fuel cell performance and developing durable electrocatalysts. The oxidation of Vulcan carbon black (the most widely used catalyst support for PEM fuel cells) was investigated using various electrochemical stressing methods (fixed-potential holding vs. potential-step cycling), among which the potential-step cycling was considered to mimic more closely the real drive-cycle operation of vehicle PEM fuel cells. The oxidation of carbon was accelerated under potential-step conditions as compared with the fixed-potential holding condition. Increasing the potential-step frequency or decreasing the lower potential limit in the potential-step can further accelerate the corrosion of carbon. The accelerated corrosion of carbon black was tentatively attributed to the cycle of consumption/regeneration of some easily oxidized species. These findings are being employed to develop a test protocol for fast-screening durable catalyst support.  相似文献
