A mathematical model has been developed to study the impact of nozzle-catalyst distance and bulk gas temperature on the conversion and hydrogen evolution rate in a spray pulse reactor. The effects of reactor configuration and operating parameters on conversion and evolution rate were predicted with more than 90% accuracy. Reactor optimization and sensitivity analysis were carried out and an optimal design of nozzle-catalyst distance 5 cm and bulk gas temperature of 50 °C were proposed. The optimized design was predicted to increase the conversion from approximately 32–74%. The model could be in general used for designing any endothermic heterogeneous catalytic reaction in a spray pulse reactor.  相似文献

Oleaginous Scenedesmus sp. was cultivated phototrophically in an open pond for biofuels production. The culture was harvested and subsequently dewatered and dried. The chemical properties of the Scenedesmus sp. lipids were determined as per standard ASTM methods. Biodiesel was synthesized by in situ transesterification from dried biomass using microwave and sonication techniques with tungstated zirconia (WO3/ZrO2) as a solid acid catalyst. In situ transesterification allowed minimizing the requirement of solvents by merging the two steps (i.e. extraction of lipid and conversion to biodiesel) to a single step. The use of a solid catalyst effectively reduces the purification cost of biodiesel due to ease of separation and potential for reuse. The conversion of Scenedesmus sp. lipids to biodiesel was determined by GC. Box–Behnken design was used for optimization of the variables to optimize the biodiesel yield and conversion. The efficiency of the two processes was compared.  相似文献

To date, the study of dispatching or load balancing in server farms has primarily focused on the minimization of response time. Server farms are typically modeled by a front-end router that employs a dispatching policy to route jobs to one of several servers, with each server scheduling all the jobs in its queue via Processor-Sharing. However, the common assumption has been that all jobs are equally important or valuable, in that they are equally sensitive to delay. Our work departs from this assumption: we model each arrival as having a randomly distributed value parameter, independent of the arrival’s service requirement (job size). Given such value heterogeneity, the correct metric is no longer the minimization or response time, but rather, the minimization of value-weighted response time. In this context, we ask “what is a good dispatching policy to minimize the value-weighted response time metric?” We propose a number of new dispatching policies that are motivated by the goal of minimizing the value-weighted response time. Via a combination of exact analysis, asymptotic analysis, and simulation, we are able to deduce many unexpected results regarding dispatching.  相似文献

In the isobutane dehydrogenation process, coupling reaction and separation and optimization of the intensified process can improve the isobutane conversion and selectivity, reduce operational costs and lets to produce pure hydrogen. In this research, the radial flow moving bed reactors in the Olefex technology have been supported by Pd–Ag membrane plate to remove hydrogen from the reaction zone. The reactions occur in the tube side and the hydrogen is permeated from the reaction zone to the sweep gas stream. The proposed configuration has been modeled heterogeneously based on the mass and energy conservation laws considering reaction networks. To prove the accuracy of the considered model, the simulation results of the conventional process have been compared against available plant data. The Genetic algorithm as an effective method in the global optimization has been considered to optimize the operating condition of membrane reactors to enhance isobutene productivity. In this optimal configuration, the isobutene production has been enhanced about 3.7%.  相似文献

In this work, a theoretical model is proposed for heterogeneous nucleation on substrates whose size distributions can be described by the Weibull statistics. In particular, the proposed model suggests that the size distribution for the various nucleation sites is exponential in nature. Measurements of grain count were carried out on experimental Al–1·3Si and Al–5·0Cu single phase alloys inoculated using an Al–5Ti–1B master alloy. In addition, experimental nodular and flake graphite iron castings were processed under various metallurgical conditions. In single phase alloys, the area of the equiaxed dendritic grain count was estimated from the electron backscattering diffraction analysis, whereas the graphite nodule and graphite eutectic cell count were estimated on polished cast iron surface sections by stereological means. In addition, maximum undercoolings were determined by thermal analysis. The experimental outcome indicates that the grain count can be properly described by a proposed exponential function of the maximum undercooling at the onset of alloy solidification. Finally, the magnitudes of the nucleation parameters were experimentally determined in this work.  相似文献

This study investigates the (de)mobilizing influences of political (dis)agreement in the news and in political discussion on political attitudes and participation in new information environments. Results demonstrate the mediating functions of political ambivalence in that exposure to proattitudinal news reduces ambivalence and thereby promotes political participation, whereas exposure to counter-attitudinal news increases ambivalence and thereby discourages participation. Importantly, the effect of exposure to counter-attitudinal news on ambivalence was moderated by heterogeneous discussion networks on social network sites, such that the combination of exposure to counter-attitudinal news and to heterogeneous discussion networks amplifies ambivalence additively, and thereby augments the tendency toward demobilization. These results are interpreted as suggesting that changing media contexts may lead to complex roles of news and political discussion.  相似文献

In this work we developed a stochastic model to simulate neutron transport in a heterogeneous medium, considering continuous neutron spectra and the nuclear properties with its continuous dependence on energy. This model was implemented using the Monte Carlo method for the propagation of neutrons in different media. Due to restrictions with respect to the number of neutrons that can be simulated in reasonable computational time we introduced a variable control volume together with (pseudo-) periodic boundary conditions in order to overcome this problem. This study allowed a detailed analysis of the influence of energy on the neutron population and its impact on the life cycle of neutrons. From the results, even for a simple geometrical arrangement, we can conclude that there is need to consider the energy dependence and hence defined a spectral effective multiplication factor per Monte Carlo step.  相似文献

A series of heterogeneous catalysts including different molar ratios of CaO/talc was synthesized to study the transesterification reaction of canola oil and methanol under different reaction conditions. Characterization and kinetic results revealed that the activity of this catalyst was enhanced due to the increase of CaO/talc molar ratio value leading to an improvement in the biodiesel production. Moreover, the effect of various parameters on the activity of the undertaken catalysts was studied in order to determine the optimum process conditions. Leaching measurements and the durability of the CaO/talc catalyst under several reaction cycles were evaluated and proved it to be a stable catalyst.  相似文献

A series of Li/CaO catalysts has been prepared by impregnating 0.5–5.0 wt% Li in CaO by wet chemical method. Prepared Li/CaO catalysts have been characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, scanning electron and transmission electron microscopy and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) surface area studies, in order to establish the structure and surface morphology of the catalyst. Hammett indicator test study was performed to determine the basic strength of the Li/CaO catalysts. The prepared Li/CaO catalysts have been employed as a heterogeneous catalyst for the transesterification of waste cottonseed oil (having 2.8 wt% free fatty acid contents) with ethanol. Under optimal reaction conditions viz., ethanol/oil molar ratio of 12:1, catalyst to oil weight fraction of 5% and 65 °C reaction temperature, 98% fatty acid ethyl ester yield was obtained in 2.5 h of reaction duration. Under the optimized reaction conditions, the pseudo first order constant and Arrhenius activation energy were found to be 0.03 min−1 and 70.0 kJ mol−1, respectively. Further Li/CaO catalyst was also found to be effective for the ethanolysis and methanolysis of vegetable oils having up to 3.4 wt% free fatty acids. The use of 3-Li/CaO catalyst is advantageous considering that it not only utilizes waste cottonseed oil as a feedstock, but also renewable and nontoxic alcohol, ethanol, for the biodiesel production.  相似文献
