基于人机交互的医学超声图像自动化定量分析

实现医学超声图像的自动化定量分析.设计并实现一个基于人机交互的医学超声图像辅助分析系统.首先由医生凭借临床经验在超声图像中划出目标区域,系统生成目标子图像,然后使用直方图均衡和迭代阈值法对目标子图像进行灰度调整和分割处理,最后根据位图标记结果在原图中提取目标轮廓,并自动生成反映目标大小的长、宽等数据.通过采用一定的图像处理技术,成功地实现了对超声图像中目标区域的分割和自动化定量分析.本系统能弥补当前超声图文管理系统在图像分割和图像分析方面的不足,具有较高的实用性.     

Respiratory health problems associated to infrastructural development among residents living near Special Economic Zone in India

A cross-sectional study was undertaken to assess the lung function status of residents living in areas adjacent to Noida Special Economic Zone (NSEZ). The survey included 161 subjects (Bhangal = 79, Bakhtiyarpur = 48, and Hazipur = 34) and 104 subjects from a non-industrial zone. The study showed a significantly high prevalence of lung function impairment (17.7%) amongst residents living adjacent to Special Economic Zone (Bhangal) compared with residents of non-industrial zone. Breathlessness and cough was more prevalent amongst residents of Bhangal. It was found that lung function deficits amongst residents and distance from NSEZ were inversely related. Lung function abnormalities were found to be at maximum in Bhangal at 1-km distance, moderate in Hazipur at 2-km distance and minimum in Bhaktiyarpur at 3-km distance. At all three locations adjacent to NSEZ, particulate matter (PM) concentration showed suspended particulate matter (SPM) and respirable suspended particulate matter (RSPM) above the prescribed limits of national ambient air quality standard; concentration of PM with an aerodynamic diameter ≤ 2.5 μm (PM_2.5) and PM with an aerodynamic diameter ≤ 1 μm (PM₁) was also higher than the control area. Construction activities related to infrastructural development and increased vehicular traffic may be responsible for higher concentrations of PM_2.5, PM₁, RSPM and SPM in these areas.     

Synthesis of monodisperse organic- and water-soluble iron oxide nanoparticles using Fe(OH)3 as precursor

The precursors used to prepare high-quality nanoparticles by high-temperature decomposition are expensive and toxic organometallic compounds. Fe(OH)₃, an inexpensive and environmentally friendly iron-containing compound, is for the first time introduced to act as an precursor to generate monodisperse iron oxide nanoparticles. The obtained nanoparticles are characterised by transmission electronic microscopy, IR, XRD and vibrating sample magnetometer. Organic-soluble ferromagnetic rod-like and superparamagnetic dot-like nanoparticles with the size ranging from 12 to 25?nm are obtained in a nonpolar solvent by adjusting reaction parameters, such as surfactant concentration and reaction time. Water-soluble nanoparticles can be synthesised when a bipolar solvent is used instead of nonpolar solvent. The results show that Fe(OH)₃ is a promising precursor for the high-temperature decomposition method.

Combination of natural antimicrobials and sodium dodecyl sulfate for disruption of biofilms formed by contaminant bacteria isolated from sugarcane mills

Bacterial contamination is found during ethanol production in the form of biofilms, which can decrease ethanol yield by 30%. Carvacrol, nisin, and hops extract, alone and in combination with SDS, were tested against planktonic and preformed biofilms of Lactobacillus fermentum, Lactobacillus plantarum, and/or Leuconostoc mesenteroides. MICs of carvacrol, nisin, hops extract and SDS were 250, 30, 5 and 37.5 mg/L, respectively, against all bacteria. Synergism between SDS and carvacrol (FIC_index = 0.125), and SDS and nisin (FIC_index = 0.25) was also found against all bacteria. Bacterial viability within biofilms and removal of biomass were indirectly measured using MTT and crystal violet methods, respectively. Metabolic activity of biofilms was inhibited up to 92% with nisin + SDS, while carvacrol + SDS could remove 82% of the biomass. Thus, combined use of these antimicrobials and SDS may provide an effective method for cleaning equipment of ethanol plants and prevent formation of biofilms.     

X射线荧光光谱分析硫化铜矿及其精矿的进展

硫化铜矿及其精矿含有较高的硫和铜。不同价态的硫所发射的X射线谱(K_α、K_β)发生位移,K_α/K_β谱线强度比值不一致;硫腐蚀铂金坩埚,铜能与铂金生成合金,给X射线荧光光谱(XRF)分析造成困难。对国内发表的X射线荧光光谱分析硫化铜矿及其精矿的文献进行了综述。总结了粉末压片法和熔融制样法制备试料片的条件、标准试料的选择和X射线荧光光谱仪分析条件,以及在铜矿物类质同象物相鉴定、铜精矿样品氧化条件及其机理研究等方面的应用情况,并展望了XRF在硫化铜矿及其精矿成分分析中的应用前景。     

TGF-β1 Protection against Aβ1–42-Induced Neuroinflammation and Neurodegeneration in Rats

Transforming growth factor (TGF)-β1, a cytokine that can be expressed in the brain, is a key regulator of the brain’s responses to injury and inflammation. Alzheimer’s disease (AD), the most common neurodegenerative disorder, involves inflammatory processes in the brain in addition to the hallmarks, amyloid-β (Aβ) plaques and neurofibrillary tangles. Recently, we have shown that T-helper (Th) 17 cells, a subpopulation of CD4⁺ T-cells with high proinflammation, also participate in the brain inflammatory process of AD. However, it is poorly known whether TGF-β1 ameliorates the lymphocyte-mediated neuroinflammation and, thereby, alleviates neurodegeneration in AD. Herein, we administered TGF-β1 via the intracerebroventricle (ICV) in AD model rats, by Aβ_1–42 injection in both sides of the hippocampus, to show the neuroprotection of TGF-β1. The TGF-β1 administration after the Aβ_1–42 injection ameliorated cognitive deficit and neuronal loss and apoptosis, reduced amyloid precursor protein (APP) expression, elevated protein phosphatase (PP)2A expression, attenuated glial activation and alleviated the imbalance of the pro-inflammatory/anti-inflammatory responses of T-lymphocytes, compared to the Aβ_1–42 injection alone. These findings demonstrate that TGF-β1 provides protection against AD neurodegeneration and suggest that the TGF-β1 neuroprotection is implemented by the alleviation of glial and T-cell-mediated neuroinflammation.
