The brain undergoes ionizing radiation exposure in many clinical situations, particularly during radiotherapy for brain tumors. The critical role of the hippocampus in the pathogenesis of radiation-induced neurocognitive dysfunction is well recognized. The goal of this study is to test the potential contribution of non-targeted effects in the detrimental response of the hippocampus to irradiation and to elucidate the mechanisms involved. C57Bl/6 mice were whole body (WBI) or partial body (PBI) irradiated with 0.1 or 2.0 Gy of X-rays or sham irradiated. PBI consisted of the exposure of the lower third of the mouse body, whilst the upper two thirds were shielded. Hippocampi were collected 15 days or 6 months post-irradiation and a multi-omics approach was adopted to assess the molecular changes in non-coding RNAs, proteins and metabolic levels, as well as histological changes in the rate of hippocampal neurogenesis. Notably, at 2.0 Gy the pattern of early molecular and histopathological changes induced in the hippocampus at 15 days following PBI were similar in quality and quantity to the effects induced by WBI, thus providing a proof of principle of the existence of out-of-target radiation response in the hippocampus of conventional mice. We detected major alterations in DAG/IP3 and TGF-β signaling pathways as well as in the expression of proteins involved in the regulation of long-term neuronal synaptic plasticity and synapse organization, coupled with defects in neural stem cells self-renewal in the hippocampal dentate gyrus. However, compared to the persistence of the WBI effects, most of the PBI effects were only transient and tended to decrease at 6 months post-irradiation, indicating important mechanistic difference. On the contrary, at low dose we identified a progressive accumulation of molecular defects that tended to manifest at later post-irradiation times. These data, indicating that both targeted and non-targeted radiation effects might contribute to the pathogenesis of hippocampal radiation-damage, have general implications for human health.  相似文献

A new radially local neoclassical transport code is developed based on the radially global two-weight δfδf Monte Carlo code, FORTEC-3D (Satake et al., 2008). In the collisional two-weight δfδf method, the variance of weight increases in time due to the so-called weight spreading, which leads to an increasing numerical noise in long time simulations. A new improved control-variate scheme was proposed by Kleiber et al. (2011) to reduce the variance. We investigate the effectiveness and validity of the new control-variate scheme for a practical collisional transport problem in a plasma described by the drift kinetic equation. It is demonstrated that the new scheme reduces the variance of weight by approximately 75% in an axisymmetric magnetic field configuration. The burst-like behavior of a transport observable caused by a large numerical noise can be avoided. As a result, the time evolution of a transport observable can be successfully smoothed.  相似文献

In order to improve the weatherability of acryonitrile—styrene—butadiene rubber graft polymer (ABS resin), an attempt was made to develop a resin (AAS resin) in which acrylic rubber of good weatherability was used instead of butadiene rubber. First, by copolymerizing dicyclopentenyl-methacrylate (DCP-MA,3%) with butyl acrylate, crosslinked acrylic rubber was obtained. This also introduced grafting sites into the rubber. Next, methods of graft copolymerizing styrene and acrylonitrile with this rubber were examined. An emulsion–suspension polymerization method was developed in which the initial stage of the polymerization, emulsion polymerization, changed into suspension polymerization during the process. By this method of polymerization, rubber particles were combined and enlarged, bringing about a graft-type resin with high impact resistance. This polymerization method is industrially useful because particle-shaped resins are obtained without the need of a salting-out process. The AAS resin, obtained in this way, has much improved weatherability over ABS resin and shows strength equal to that of ABS resin. © 1992 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

We experimentally demonstrated that the technique to stabilize the output signal by harmonic intensities is useful in heterodyne detection with an incoherent light source such as a halogen lamp. The relation between the relative standard deviation of an output signal and the fluctuation of the light intensity is analyzed and simulated. Using the fundamental to sixth harmonics increases the stabilities of output signal approximately 3 times, and subtracting the relative standard deviation of the intensity of light source enhances the stabilities 49 times. The fluctuating phase that is due to the fluctuating frequency and temperature and its power spectrum density for an interferometer is also calculated with the Allan variance.  相似文献

The bacteria isolated from the patients with lower respiratory tract infections were collected by institutions located throughout Japan, since 1981. Ikemoto et al. have been investigating susceptibilities of these isolates to various antibacterial agents and antibiotics, and characteristics of the patients and isolates from them each year. Results obtained from these investigations are discussed. In 16 institutions around the entire Japan, 557 strains of presumably etiological bacteria were isolated mainly from the sputa of 449 patients with lower respiratory tract infections during the period from October 1996 to September 1997. MICs of various antibacterial agents and antibiotics were determined against 98 strains of Staphylococcus aureus, 93 strains of Streptococcus pneumoniae, 84 strains of Haemophilus influenzae, 84 strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa (non-mucoid strains), 17 strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa (mucoid strains), 31 strains of Moraxella subgenus Branhamella catarrhalis, 21 strains of Klebsiella pneumoniae etc., and the drug susceptibilities of these strains were assessed except for those strains that died during transportation. 1) S. aureus S. aureus strains for which MICs of oxacillin (MPIPC) were higher than 4 micrograms/ml (methicillin-resistant S. aureus) accounted for 67.3%. The frequency of the drug resistant bacteria increased comparing to the previous year's 52.7%. Arbekacin (ABK) and vancomycin (VCM) showed the highest activities against both S. aureus and MRSA with MIC80s of 1 microgram/ml. 2) S. pneumoniae Imipenem (IPM) and panipenem (PAPM) of carbapenems showed the most potent activities with MIC80s of 0.063 microgram/ml. Faropenem (FRPM) showed the next potent activity with MIC80 of 0.125 microgram/ml. The other drugs except erythromycin (EM), clindamycin (CLDM) and tetracycline (TC) were active against S. pneumoniae tested with MIC80s of 8 micrograms/ml or below. 3) H. influenzae The activities of all drugs were potent against H. influenzae tested with MIC80s of 4 micrograms/ml or below. Cefotiam (CTM), cefmenoxime (CMX), cefditoren (CDTR) and ofloxacin (OFLX) showed the most potent activities with MIC80s of 0.063 microgram/ml. 4) P. aeruginosa (mucoid strains) Tobramycin (TOB) showed the most potent activity against P. aeruginosa (mucoid strains) with MIC80 of 1 microgram/ml. Ceftazidime (CAZ), cefsulodin (CFS), IPM, gentamicin (GM), ABK and ciprofloxacin (CPFX) showed the next potent activities, with MIC80s of 2 micrograms/ml. The MIC80s of the other drugs ranged from 4 micrograms/ml to 16 micrograms/ml. 5) P. aeruginosa (non-mucoid strains) TOB and CPFX showed the most potent activities against P. aeruginosa (non-mucoid strains) with MIC80s of 1 microgram/ml. The MIC80s of piperacillin (PIPC) and cefoperazone (CPZ) were 16 micrograms/ml in 1995, and they were 64 micrograms/ml in 1996. 6) K. pneumoniae All drugs except ampicillin (ABPC) were active against K. pneumoniae. CMX, cefpirome (CPR), cefozopran (CZOP) and carumonam (CRMN) showed the most potent activities against K. pneumoniae with MIC80s of 0.125 microgram/ml. The MIC80s of the other drugs ranged from 0.25 microgram/ml to 2 micrograms/ml. 7) M.(B) catarrhalis Against M.(B.) catarrhalis, all drugs showed good activities with MICs of 4 micrograms/ml or below. IPM and minocycline (MINO) showed the most potent activities with MICs of 0.063 microgram/ml. Also, we investigated year to year changes in the characteristics of patients, their respiratory infectious diseases, and the etiology. Patients' backgrounds were examined for 557 isolates from 449 cases. The examination of age distribution indicated that the proportion of patients with ages over 60 years was 71.0% of all the patients showing a slight increase over that in 1994. Proportions of diagnosed diseases were as follows: Bacterial pneumonia and chronic bronchitis were the most frequent with 35.9% and 30.3% respectively. Nitric oxide (NO), which plays an important role in the vital functions of organisms, is gaseous and labile molecule. Much attention has been paid to the stability and easily handling of NO donors, for careful handling of NO is required during experimental work. We synthesized a series of aromatic N-nitrosoureas and N-nitrosamides which efficiently liberates NO at room temperature. Generation of NO from the aromatic N-nitroso compounds was chemically confirmed by the trapping of NO as a nitrosyl complex of tetraphenylporphyrinatocobalt (II) and spectrophotometrically quantified by means of the Griess reaction using a newly designed test apparatus. 3,3-Dibenzyl-1-(4-tolyl)-1-nitrosourea showed the greatest NO-generating ability among the synthesized N-nitroso compounds. Further, the NO-generating ability was related to the reciprocal of the ID50 value for growth inhibition of cultured L-5178Y cell by the aromatic N-nitroso compounds.  相似文献

The solid-state synthesis of a tetrathiafulvalene–chloranil (TTF–CA) complex was demonstrated, and progress in the formation of the complex was monitored using a GaP Raman terahertz (THz) spectrometer. Clear transitions in the THz absorption spectra indicated that the mixture of TTF and CA became the black phase TTF–CA complex. The results of X-ray diffraction, Raman scattering, and FTIR spectra are presented as supporting evidence.  相似文献

The discharge behaviour of T-Nb2O5 in various electrolytes is unaffected by the choice of solvent, but is strongly dependent on the crystal radius of the solute cation species. Thermodynamic and structural studies show that this is due to the insertion of unsolvated Li+ ions into the crystal lattice. The graphite content of the Nb2O5 electrode has a marked influence on the cycling behaviour on account of the decrease in the oxide conductivity with discharge. Furthermore, the chemical diffusion coefficient of Li+ ions in Nb2O5 is about 10−10 cm2 s−1, which is one order of magnitude smaller than that in V2O5 with a layered structure.  相似文献
