Dense and core-rim structured B4C-TiB2 ceramics with Mo-Co-WC additive

B₄C-TiB₂ ceramics (TiB₂ ranging 5~70 vol%) with Mo-Co-WC as the sintering additive were prepared by spark plasma sintering. In comparison with B₄C-TiB₂ without additive, the enhanced densification was evident in the sintered specimen with Mo-Co-WC additive. Core-rim structured grain was observed around TiB₂ grains. The interface of the rim between TiB₂ and B₄C phases demonstrated different feature: the inner borderline of the rim exhibited a smooth feature, whereas a sharp curved grain boundary was observed between the rim and the B₄C grain. The formation mechanism is discussed: the epitaxial growth of (Ti,Mo,W)B₂ rim around the TiB₂ core may occur as a result of the solid solution and dissolution-precipitation between TiB₂ phase and the sintering additive. It was revealed that the fracture toughness increased as the content of TiB₂ content increased, alongside the decreased hardness. B₄C-30 vol% TiB₂ specimen demonstrated the optimal combination of mechanical properties, reaching Vickers hardness of 24.3 GPa and fracture toughness of 3.33 MPa·m^1/2.

纸板类儿童卡书抗弯曲性能影响因素研究

文章针对四种制备儿童卡书的卡纸进行研究,分析了卡纸纤维结构类型和表面粗糙度对儿童卡书变形度的影响。对水性胶粘剂固含量与儿童卡书弯曲度的关系研究发现胶粘剂固含量在60%~65%时,制备的卡书抗弯曲性能较好。此外,研究发现后处理环境条件选用温度23±3℃,湿度50±5%的标准条件,后处理时间为1个月左右得到的儿童卡书的弯曲变形度最小。

Thermally insulating GdBO3 ceramics with neutron shielding performance

There is an urgent demand for multifunctional insulation materials with neutron shielding ability that can be particularly used in the nuclear energy system. GdBO₃ ceramics are one of the candidates for such materials. In this study, GdBO₃ ceramics were successfully synthesized using a simple solid-phase method. The effect of boric acid content on the micro and macro properties of GdBO₃ ceramics was explored. The experimental results indicate that the thermal conductivity of the resulting GdBO₃ ceramics ranged from .12 to .68 W/(m⋅K), and lower thermal conductivity was achieved with smaller pore size and higher apparent porosity of the sintered product. Moreover, the mechanical properties of the samples in multiple temperature ranges can be improved by increasing boric acid content. Finally, neutron shielding permeability study, performed on the samples in different thicknesses, reveal that GdBO₃ ceramics possessed excellent neutron shielding performance (NSP). The obtained results manifest that GdBO₃ ceramics with outstanding heat insulation and NSP have a potential application in a nuclear reactor.
