Experimental determination of effective moisture diffusivities of whole- and cut-rosehips in convective drying

Average effective moisture diffusivities for both the whole- and cut-rosehips were obtained during convective drying. The effects of process variables such as air temperature, air velocity and air absolute humidity on effective moisture diffusivity were studied. The average effective moisture diffusivity in rosehip ranged between 1.45 × 10^?10 and 10.3 × 10^?10 m²/s for whole-rosehip and between 1.44 × 10^?9 and 5.13 × 10^?9 m²/s for cut-rosehip at the temperatures studied. Activation energies for convective drying were found to be 62 kJ/mol for whole-rosehips and 58 kJ/mol for cut-rosehips.     

Determination of Antioxidant Properties of Fruit Juice by Partial Least Squares and Principal Component Regression

The multivariate calibration methods—principal component regression and partial least squares—were employed for the prediction of antioxidant capacities of fruit juices. High-performance liquid chromatography and spectrophotometric approaches were used to determine the antioxidant capacities of fruit juices. The importance of calibration design was investigated by calculating the prediction and validation errors. The influences of using independent validation sets were emphasized. Calibration design is shown to have major effect on principal component regression and partial least squares errors. The models developed on the basis of the mean-centered data were able to predict the total antioxidant activity with a precision comparable to that of the reference [2,2-azino-di-(3-ethylbenzothialozine-sulfonic acid)] method. The partial least squares model seems preferable because of its predictive and describing abilities and good interpretability of the contribution of compounds to the antioxidant capacity. The contribution of individual phenolic compounds to the antioxidant capacity was identified by high-performance liquid chromatography.     

Photovoltaic solar cell properties of CdxZn1−xO films prepared by sol–gel method

Cd_xZn_1−xO films have been deposited by sol–gel spin-coating method onto glass substrates. The Cd/Zn ratio in solution was changed from 0 to 1. Zinc acetate dehydrates, cadmium acetate dehydrates, 2-methoxyethanol and monoethanolamine were used as a starting material (zinc and cadmium), solvent and stabilizer, respectively. The crystal structure and orientation of the films were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns. XRD patterns show that the films are polycrystalline nature. As x varies from 0 to 1, it was observed that the crystal structure changed from wurtzite (ZnO) to cubic (CdO) structure. The optical properties of these films have been investigated by means of the optical transmittance and reflectance spectra. A significant change in optical absorption edge, optical band gap and optical constant with variation in composition was observed.     

Various Shapes of 3 D Resonators Pass-Band Filters

The integral equations technique based on a three dimensional finite element method is applied as a quick and accurate analysis tool for the design of microwave passband filters. A three resonator H-plane bandpass filters with the various shapes of cavities and the irises are analyzed with this method in a single step and for only one mode, take into account all the electromagnetic effects. Consequently, it consumes less memory and CPU time.We propose also to study the same filters filled by homogeneous high dielectric material (ε_τ = 9.6) for Both resonator and coupling section.All these numerical results have been validated through a comparison with the results available in the scientific literature.
