Hydraulic models available in literature are unsuccessful in simulating accurately and efficiently environmental flows characterized by the presence of both air-water interactions and free-surface/pressurized transitions (aka mixed flows). The purpose of this paper is thus to fill this knowledge gap by developing a unified one-dimensional mathematical model describing free-surface, pressurized and mixed flows with air-water interactions. This work is part of a general research project which aims at establishing a unified mathematical model suitable to describe the vast majority of flows likely to appear in civil and environmental engineering (pure water flows, sediment transport, pollutant transport, aerated flows…). In order to tackle this problem, our original methodology consists in both time- and space-averaging the Local Instant Formulation, which includes field equations for each phase taken separately and jump conditions, over a flow cross-section involving a free-surface. Subsequently, applicability of the model is extended to pressurized flows as well. The first key result is an original 1D Homogeneous Equilibrium Model which describes two-phase free-surface flows. It is proven to be fundamentally multiphase, to take into account scale heterogeneities of environmental flow and to be very easy to solve. Next, applicability of this free-surface model is extended to pressurized flows by using the classical Preissmann slot concept. A second key result here is the introduction of an original negative Preissmann slot to simulate sub-atmospheric pressurized flows. The model is then closed by using constitutive equations suitable for air-water flows. Finally, this mathematical model is discretised by means of a finite volume scheme and validated by comparison with experimental results from a physical model in the case of a steady flow in a large scale gallery.  相似文献

This work involves the experimental investigation of flow patterns, preferential regions of deposition and trapping efficiency in rectangular shallow reservoirs. The main flow patterns that can be encountered in rectangular shallow reservoirs are described: symmetrical flows without any reattachment point (S0), asymmetrical flows with one reattachment point (A1) and asymmetrical flows with two reattachment points (A2). The influence of geometrical and hydraulic parameters on reattachment lengths is intensively investigated. A shape parameter is introduced to classify symmetrical and asymmetrical flows. For each flow pattern, the preferential regions of deposition are studied. To conclude, a number of practical recommendations are given. Reservoirs with a shape parameter lower than 6.2 limit sediment deposition. Reservoirs with a shape parameter greater than 6.8 are favourable for sediment deposition. Finally, perspectives for maximizing and minimizing deposition are given, respectively by exploiting the great trapping potential of the flow pattern A1 and the poor trapping potential of the flow pattern S0.  相似文献

Bovine herpesvirus 4 (BoHV-4) is a gammaherpesvirus highly prevalent in the cattle population that has been isolated from the milk and the serum of healthy infected cows. Several studies reported the sensitivity and the permissiveness of some human cells to BoHV-4 infection. Moreover, our recent study demonstrated that some human cells sensitive but not permissive to BoHV-4 support a persistent infection protecting them from tumor necrosis factor-α-induced apoptosis. Together, these observations suggested that BoHV-4 could represent a danger for public health. To evaluate the risk of human infection by BoHV-4 through milk or serum derivatives, we investigated the resistance of BoHV-4 to the mildest thermal treatments usually applied to these products. The results demonstrated that milk pasteurization and thermal decomplementation of serum abolish BoHV-4 infectivity by inactivation of its property to enter permissive cells. Consequently, our results demonstrate that these treatments drastically reduce the risk of human infection by BoHV-4 through treated milk or serum derivatives.  相似文献

The use of a multi-ecological tracer approach provides valuable and complementary insights to investigate the complex biology and ecology of large pelagic fish. Brine immersion freezing is the most common preservation technique used onboard for large fish to be frozen whole until they are delivered for sale and processing. We evaluated the effect of brine freezing on lipid and fatty acid composition, C and N stable isotope ratios, and organochlorine contaminant levels of yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares) and skipjack tuna (Katsuwonus pelamis). Fresh tunas were stored in a saturated sodium chlorine brine immersion tank maintained at ?20 °C for 6 weeks, and ecological tracers were analysed on dorsal muscle samples collected before and after brine freezing. No significant effect of the fish preservation technique was found except for δ15N whose signatures slightly increased after a 6-week period of brine immersion. Because N isotopic shift was close to the analytical precision and probably related to a higher risk of salt penetration in small tunas with abraded skin, we consider our results as conservative and conclude that ecological tracers can indeed be analysed on brine-freezing-preserved tunas.  相似文献

Long-term reservoir management often uses bounds on the reservoir level, between which the operator can work. However, these bounds are not always kept up-to-date with the latest knowledge about the reservoir drainage area, and thus become obsolete. The main difficulty with bounds computation is to correctly take into account the high uncertainty about the inflows to the reservoir. In this article, we propose a methodology to derive minimum bounds while providing formal guarantees about the quality of the obtained solutions. The uncertainty is embedded using either stochastic or robust programming in a model-predictive-control framework. We compare the two paradigms to the existing solution for a case study and find that the obtained solutions vary substantially. By combining the stochastic and the robust approaches, we also assign a confidence level to the solutions obtained by stochastic programming. The proposed methodology is found to be both efficient and easy to implement. It relies on sound mathematical principles, ensuring that a global optimum is reached in all cases.  相似文献

Flood modelling in transnational rivers requires efficient cross-border collaboration among the riparian countries. Currently, each country/region usually uses a different hydraulic modelling approach, which may hinder the modelling of the entire river. For the sake of accurate and consistent river modelling there is a necessity for the establishment of a framework that fosters international collaborations. This study investigates the current hydraulic modelling approach across the whole length of the River Meuse, the main course of which crosses three north-western European countries. The numerical models used by French, Belgian, and Dutch agencies and authorities were interconnected by exchanging boundary conditions at the borders. At the central part of the river, the Belgian hydraulic model assumed steady flow conditions, while the rest of the river was modelled in unsteady mode. Results for various flood scenarios revealed a distinctive pattern of water depths at the Belgian-Dutch border. To clarify whether this is a bias induced by the change in modelling approach at the border (steady vs. unsteady), we remodelled a stretch of the river across the Belgian-Dutch border using a consistent unsteady modelling approach. The steady and unsteady approaches led to similar patterns across the border, hence discarding the hypothesis of a bias resulting from a change in the employed model. Instead, the pattern in water depths was attributed to a change in the topography of the Meuse Valley, where there is a transition from a narrow steep corridor with limited water storing capacity in Ardennes massif to wide floodplains in the Dutch lowlands. The associated flood damping for the 100-year discharge is less than 1% in the Ardennes and exceeds 15% in the Dutch lowlands. It can be inferred that the current differences in regional hydraulic modelling approaches for the River Meuse are generally well-grounded and not just a legacy of the past.
