Higher manganese silicides (HMS) are promising alternative materials for middle to high temperature thermoelectric applications as a low-cost, non-toxic and highly stable p-type leg. Many of the preparation methods that have been reported previously require long-time and energy consuming processes, as well as expensive equipment, and often do not result in a material of sufficient quality. In this study, the simple, cost-effective and eco-friendly technique of pack cementation is applied. HMS powders synthesized at different experimental conditions are studied and compared considering their structure, composition, short-term thermal stability in air and thermoelectric properties. X-ray diffraction analysis, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, thermogravimetry and thermoelectric measurements (in terms of Seebeck coefficient, electrical and thermal conductivity) were employed for the characterization of the material and evaluation of its performance. All samples were identified as HMS and only some negligible traces of MnSi were detected. They moderately oxidize when heated non-isothermally under air atmosphere up to 1473 K, while the presence of HMS remains dominant even at such high temperatures. Their thermoelectric properties were remarkable for an undoped material, with a maximum figure of merit (ZT) of 0.47 at 777 K. Pack cementation appeared to have a great potential as the synthesis route of high-efficiency HMS.  相似文献

Far infrared reflectivity spectra of polycrystalline In1?xGaxSb were measured and numerically analyzed using the classical dispersion formula and also a fitting procedure based on the modified plasmon-phonon interaction model in the temperature range from 10 K to 300 K. Optical parameters were calculated and discussed. A local mode belonging to the GaSb rich end and two-mode behavior were observed at low temperatures.  相似文献

Wireless Local Area Networks have gained popularity at an unprecedented rate over the last few years. However, as the spectrum of applications they are called to support broadens, their inefficiency in meeting the diverse requirements of a wider range of applications becomes evident. Most existing access mechanisms cannot provide Quality-of-Service (QoS) assurances. Even those that are QoS aware can only provide relative service differentiation. In this work, we propose a dynamic priority medium access scheme to provide time-bounded services. By approximating an ideal Earliest Deadline First (EDF) scheduler, the proposed scheme can offer delay and delay jitter assurances while achieving high medium utilization. Analytical studies and simulation experiments document and confirm the positive characteristics of the proposed mechanism. Orestis Tsigkas received his Diploma in electrical and computer engineering from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece in 2002. He is currently working towards his Ph.D. degree in the same department. His research interests include medium access, as well as quality-of-service provisioning. Fotini-Niovi Pavlidou received the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, in 1988 and the Diploma in mechanical-electrical engineering in 1979 from the same institution. She is currently a Professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Aristotle University engaged in teaching for the under- and post-graduate program in the areas of mobile communications and telecommunications networks. Her research interests are in the field of mobile and personal communications, satellite communications, multiple access systems, routing and traffic flow in networks and QoS studies for multimedia applications over the Internet. She is being involved with many national and international projects in these areas (Tempus, COST, Telematics,IST) and she has been chairing the European COST262 Action on “Spread Spectrum Systems and Techniques for Wired and Wireless Communications”. She has served as member of the TPC in many IEEE/IEE conferences and she has organized/chaired some conferences like, the “IST Mobile Summit 2002”, the 6th “International Symposium on Power Lines Communications-ISPLC2002”, the “International Conference on Communications-ICT1998” etc. She is a permanent reviewer for many IEEE/IEE journals. She has published about 80 papers in refereed journals and conferences. She has served as guest-editor on special issues as: “Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs): Standards, Research, Applications” in the International Journal of Wireless Information Networks and “Power Line Communications and Applications” in the International Journal on Communications Systems. She is a senior member of IEEE, currently chairing the joint IEEE VT&AES Chapter in Greece.  相似文献

The growing penetration of WLANs in the market, as well as the wider spectrum of applications that these kinds of networks are called to support, demands the introduction of new methods for efficient medium access. Today, the two dominating paradigms in medium access control are those of dynamic assignment and contention based ones. EY-NPMA is a contention based scheme that exhibits very low collision rates, while being quality of service aware. In this paper, we propose a solution to the highly criticised drawback of the EY-NPMA protocol — the increased overhead. Towards this end, we propose and evaluate the performance of two medium access schemes that are based on EY-NPMA and compare them to the base protocol. The theoretical analysis of the proposed schemes shows that they make better utilization of the common medium. It also allows us to determine the optimal working parameters for each one. Furthermore, extended simulation trials validate these results and confirm the good characteristics of the proposed protocols.  相似文献

Medium access represents one of the most critical building blocks regarding the performance of a wireless LAN. In this letter, we compare the performance of two well-known medium access control protocols specifically developed for the wireless environment, EDCF and EY-NPMA. To our knowledge, it is the first time that these two quality-of-service (QoS) aware medium access schemes are compared. Furthermore, we propose a novel scheme for medium access based on EY-NPMA, that demonstrates reduced overhead compared to the base protocol and better utilization of the common medium. The conclusions of this paper are based on extensive simulation trials.  相似文献

Pt- and Au-coated Cu, Fe, Co and Ni deposits have been formed on glassy carbon (GC) substrates by electrodeposition of controlled amounts of the core metal onto the substrate and its subsequent partial replacement by Pt or Au upon immersion into a chloroplatinic or chlorolauric solution. This process resulted in a thin Pt or Au shell over the bimetallic particle as electrochemical evidence suggests, while indicative sputter-etch Auger Electron Spectroscopy points to the coexistence of the two metals in the particle core. SEM/EDS characterisation of the deposits revealed the existence of Pt(M) and Au(M) extensively agglomerated nanoparticles (M: Cu, Fe, Co, Ni). The surface electrochemistry of the deposits (hydrogen adsorption/desorption on Pt and oxide formation/stripping on Au) proved the complete coverage of the bimetallic particles by Pt or Au and allowed an estimate of their electroactive surface area. The study of hydrogen evolution at these deposits points to a modification of the electronic properties of the Pt and Au surface layers by the core metal (due to strain effects and/or ligand-electronic interactions) and further confirmed that these layers form a very thin outer shell.  相似文献

DS/CDMA noncoherentM-ary orthogonal signaling is presented in a hexagonal cell with three and six corner-based antennas. Multipath Rayleigh channel with lognormal shadowing and perfect power control are assumed. The asynchronous case (uplink) is studied. Bit error rate analysis is carried out to investigate the benefits of combining theM-ary orthogonal signaling and macrodiversity techniques either with uncorrelated or correlated base stations. Comparative analysis between the one central antenna arrangement and the proposed one is presented. The results show that the combination ofM-ary signaling with multiple corner-based antennas improves system performance especially in terms of accommodating more users and supporting new services. The results also show that shadowing does not degrade system performance significantly.  相似文献
