AlInAs/GaInAs/InP double heterojunction bipolar transistor with anovel base-collector design for power applications

We report the performance of an AlInAs/GaInAs/InP DHBT with a new collector design. The base-collector junction was formed with an all arsenide chirped superlattice with linear variation in the average composition. A doping dipole was inserted at the ends of the superlattice to cancel the quasielectric field. The conduction band offset between AlInAs and InP enabled hot electrons to be launched into the InP collector. The new design resulted in an excellent combination of speed and breakdown voltage with superior microwave power performance at X-band. Output power of 2 W (5.6 W/mm) with 70% power-added-efficiency at 9 GHz was achieved

Association of serum hemolytic complement levels with the major histocompatibility complex in chickens

The total hemolytic complement (C) levels in inbred line 7 chicks and adults were lower than C levels in inbred lines 2 and 3 and in outbred chickens of the same age. In all birds, adult levels of C were obtained in 5- to 6-wk-old chickens. Analysis of F1 and F3 generations clearly showed that the C level in chickens was determined by a dominant gene(s) associated with the major histocompatibility complex. Finding this association in a nonmammal strengthens the importance of the relationship between closely linked genes controlling histocompatibility, immune responsiveness, mixed leukocyte reaction, and C activity.     

The state-of-the-art of GaAs and InP power devices and amplifiers

Significant investments and R&D efforts over the past two decades have established GaAs and InP electronic device technologies from substrate manufacturing to MMIC amplifier design and testing. Today, GaAs and InP HBTs and HFETs, as far as gain, efficiency, and power are concerned, dominate the whole spectrum from S- to W-band and beyond. In this paper we discuss recent advances in device technologies and survey the state of the art performance of GaAs and InP HFETs and HBTs     

Immunogenicity of group B Streptococcus type III polysaccharide-tetanus toxoid vaccine in baboons

Maternal vaccination has been proposed as a rational approach for the prevention of neonatal group B streptococcal (GBS) disease. In this study, baboons were used as a nonhuman primate model to evaluate the immunogenicity of a GBS type III glycoconjugate vaccine. Type III-specific immunoglobulin G with opsonic activity was induced after vaccination with type III polysaccharide coupled to tetanus toxoid administered with an aluminum adjuvant. This suggests that baboons could be used in evaluating maternal transfer of GBS-specific antibodies by vaccination during pregnancy.     

A 660 MB/s interface megacell portable circuit in 0.3 μm-0.7μm CMOS ASIC

A byte-wide I/O cell with 660 MB/s data rate uses low-jitter DLL-generated clocks, self-calibrated controlled-current drivers, and linear amplifier input receivers. The CAD techniques developed allow the design to be ported to CMOS processes ranging from 0.7 μm to 0.3 μm. The chip is 0.9×3.4 mm² using 0.3 μm rules

The year 1996 was designated 'European Year of the Lifelong Learner', though there has been little reference or celebration in the nursing press. Much has been written about lifelong learning and lifelong education, but few articles directly address the role of lifelong learning in relation to nurses and nursing. The aim of this paper is to explore the literature on lifelong learning and then relate how lifelong learning might contribute to both nurses and nurse education.
