Routing in ad hoc wireless networks does not simply consist in finding a route with shortest length (as in wired networks with virtually error-free communication links), but it requires the creation of a stable and good quality communication route to avoid any unnecessary packet loss. In this paper,we discuss physical layer-oriented routing in ad hoc wireless networks, and we analyse the potential advantages of combining the use of power control (PC) with the chosen routing strategy. More precisely, we propose a modified ad hoc on-demand distance vector (MAODV) routing protocol, with and without PC, derived from the AODV-routing protocol by considering the bit error rate at the end of a multi-hop path as the metric to be minimised for route selection. In other words, we consider routing with a physical layer-oriented quality of service criterion, and we analyse the system performance in scenarios with either strong line-of-sight (LOS) or shadowed communications. Although in a scenario with strong LOS communications there are a few cases where the MAODV-PC protocol offers the best performance, in the presence of shadowed communications the proposed physical layer-oriented strategy is not attractive.  相似文献

In recent years, with the rapid development of the Internet and wireless communication technology, wireless Ad hoc networks have received more attention. Due to the limited transmission range and energy of nodes in Ad hoc networks, it is important to establish a reliable and energy-balanced transmission path in Ad hoc networks. This paper proposes an energy-based dynamic routing protocol based on the existing AODV routing protocol, which has the following two aspects of improvement: (1) In the route discovery process, a node selects a suitable route from the minimum energy consumption route and the energy-balanced route designed in this paper according to a “Mark” bit that representing remaining energy of a node. (2) Based on (1), a route interruption update strategy was proposed to restart the route discovery process when node energy was used excessively. Simulation results demonstrate that compared with AODV and other existing routing protocols, proposed algorithm can reduce network energy consumption and balance node energy, thus extending the network lifetime.  相似文献

移动自组网是一种由一系列可以自由移动的节点主机聚集而成的一个临时性动态网络。它没有固定基站,也没有作为控制管理中心的节点主机,由于其拓扑的动态性,其路由协议与其他传统网络有很大的区别。为了能更有效地移动自组网中实现数据的传送,本文提出了一种基于移动预测下的MANET路由协议,该协议综合考虑了传输路径的延时和稳定性,选择在延时限制下平均拥有最稳特性的传输路径,模拟结果表明,这种方法比基于移动预测量稳路径路由协议的传输时延要短,传送成功概率要高,而控制开销却相关不大。  相似文献

In this article, the problem of providing a fair bandwidth allocation to the flows sharing a congested link in a router is investigated. Queue management, bandwidth share and congestion control are very important to both the robustness and fairness of the Internet. The buffer at the outgoing link is a simple FIFO, shared by packets belonging to the flows. A new transmission control protocol (TCP)-friendly router-based active queue management scheme, termed WARD, is proposed to approximate the fair queueing policy. WARD is a simple packet-dropping algorithm with a random mechanism which discriminates against flows that submit more packets per second than is allowed as their fair share. By doing this, it not only protects TCP connections from user datagram protocol flows, but also solves the problem of competing bandwidth among different TCP versions, such as TCP Vegas and TCP Reno. In addition, WARD works quite well for TCP flow isolation even with different round trip times. In other words, WARD improves the unfair bandwidth allocation properties. Furthermore, as it is stateless and easy to implement, WARD controls unresponsive or misbehaving flows with only a minimum overhead.  相似文献

将蚁群优化和跨层优化方法结合起来,提出了一种基于跨层负载感知和蚁群优化的路由协议(CLAOR)。协议将整个路径中各节点MAC层的总平均估计时延和节点队列缓存的占用情况结合起来,共同作为路由选择和路由调整的重要度量标准进行按需路由发现和维护,通过拥塞节点丢弃蚂蚁分组以及借助部分兼具蚂蚁功能的数据分组实现正常路由表的维护等方法,减少了控制开销,增加了算法的可扩展性,较好地解决了自组网中现有基于蚁群优化的路由协议中普遍存在的拥塞问题、捷径问题和引入的路由开销问题。仿真结果表明,CLAOR在分组成功递交率、路由开销以及端到端平均时延等方面具有优良性能,能很好地实现网络中的业务流负载均衡。  相似文献

Queue management, bandwidth share and congestion control are very important to both the robustness and fairness of the Internet. A new TCP-friendly router-based active queue management scheme, called WARD, approximates the fair queueing policy. WARD is a simple packet dropping algorithm with a random mechanism and discriminates against the flows which submit more packets per second than is allowed by their fair share. By doing this, it not only protects transmission control protocol (TCP) connections from user datagram protocol (UDP) flows, but also solves the problem of competing bandwidth among different TCP versions, such as TCP Vegas and TCP Reno. Furthermore, it is stateless and easy to implement, so WARD controls unresponsive or misbehaving flows with a minimum overhead. In this article, we present a deterministic fluid model of TCP/WARD system, and explain the UDP throughput behaviour with WARD. Also, we prove that, provided the number of TCP flows is large, the UDP bandwidth share peaks at (2e)-1 = 0.184 when UDP input rate is slightly larger than link capacity and drops to zero as UDP input rate tends to infinity.  相似文献

The existing congestion control algorithms such as TCP Reno are not suitable for efficient utilisation of networks with a high bandwidth-delay product because it takes a very long time to achieve the full link utilisation. Furthermore, it is difficult to guarantee the fairness among the TCP connections with different round-trip times. To overcome these problems, a new window control algorithm using the buffer state and variable gains is proposed. The diverse roles of deployable underwater assets have increased the need for ad hoc networking capability. This capability is defined as the ability to form acoustic communication links by deploying assets in a non-deterministic manner, without depending on a priori route and positioning information. Each asset represents a node in the network, and can act as a data source, sink or router, and initiates, stores or relays data, respectively. Data packets may be hopped over a few nodes before arriving at the designated destination. This ad hoc network consists of two main layers: the medium access control (MAC) layer to resolve node contention, and the ad hoc routing layer to manage routing information. In the MAC layer, both random access and timedivision protocols are applied. The protocol in the routing layer is responsible for route setup and route maintenance. This concept of multiple-hop, ad hoc networking was implemented during sea trials conducted in Portland Harbour, UK, involving up to six nodes. The trial was designed with the aim of gaining application experience in ad hoc network deployment and in assessing the performance of the protocols in a real operating environment. The emphasis was on modem integration, and the stability and reliability of packet transport. The trial results and their subsequent analysis demonstrated the robustness of the network in performing ad hoc routing and resolving node contention in a realistic and acoustically challenging environment.  相似文献

A mobile agent based on-demand quality of service (QoS) unicast routing scheme for supporting multimedia applications is proposed that considers bandwidth, delay and packet loss as QoS metrics for feasible path computation. A mobile agent is employed to find multiple QoS paths and select a best path among them to preserve resources so as to increase call success ratio and network bandwidth utilisation as well as adapt to network dynamics. The scheme is simulated in various network scenarios (sparse and dense networks) to verify performance and operation effectiveness, and compared with RSVP-based QoS routing by using an internet routing protocol. The results demonstrate significant improvements in call success ratio and network bandwidth utilisation compared with RSVP-based QoS routing, both in case of sparse and dense networks. Benefits of the agent-based scheme are adaptability, flexibility, and support for component-based software engineering features such as software reuse, customisation and maintainability  相似文献

There are a number of critical problems related to road safety in intelligent transportation systems (ITS) caused by increased vehicle usage, urbanisation, population growth and density, and faster rates of movements of goods and people. It is envisaged that vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) will bring about a substantial change to the way our road transport operates to improving road safety and traffic congestion. A major challenge in VANETs is to provide real-time transfer of information between vehicles within a highly mobile environment. The authors propose a new clustering scheme named robust mobility adaptive clustering (RMAC) to strategically enable and manage highly dynamic VANETs for future ITS. It employs a novel node precedence algorithm to adaptively identify the nearby 1-hop neighbours and select optimal clusterheads based on relative node mobility metrics of speed, locations and direction of travel. Furthermore, the zone of interest concept is introduced for optimised approach to the network structure such that each vehicular node maintains a neighbour table of nodes, beyond its communications range, that reflects the frequent changes on the network and provides prior knowledge of neighbours as they travel into new neighbourhoods. RMAC predominantly employs more reliable unicast control packets and supports geographic routing by providing accurate neighbour information crucial when making routing decisions in multi-hop geographic routing. It is shown by simulations that RMAC on IEEE802.11 ad hoc WLAN protocol is very effective in a highly dynamic VANETs environment, being robust on link failures, and having very high cluster residence times compared to the well known distributed mobility clustering scheme.  相似文献

Vehicular ad hoc networks (VANET), which are created by vehicles equipped with short- and mediumrange wireless communication, have an array of important applications in intelligent transport systems. Many of these applications require reliable, bandwidth-efficient dissemination of traffic and road information via ad hoc network technology. This is a difficult task since inter-vehicular networks often lack continuous end-to-end connectivity and are characterised by large variations in node density. A new epidemic algorithm for information dissemination in highly dynamic and intermittently connected VANET is introduced. It is shown through realistic simulations in highway traffic that the proposed algorithm is capable of reliable and efficient information dissemination in VANET in the face of frequent network fragmentation and large density variations.  相似文献

TCP performs poorly in wireless mobile networks due to large bit error rates. Basically, the TCP sender responds to these losses as if they were due to congestion in the network, and reduces the congestion window unnecessarily. In earlier work, it has been shown that adding a TCP header checksum is very useful in differentiating between congestion loss and corruption loss. With the modified TCP, receivers can explicitly indicate corruption of received packets by generating “Explicit Loss Notifications (ELNs).” This paper focuses on an analytical study of this modified TCP protocol. We derive an expression for the probability of a receiver generating successful ELN, assuming a generic link layer protocol for data transfer over wireless links. Next, we develop an analytical approach for TCP throughput evaluation under the modified scheme. We compare the throughput results obtained by analysis and simulation, and find very close agreement between the two sets. We also compare the performance of the modified scheme with the standard NewReno TCP, and find considerable improvement in data throughput over wireless links.  相似文献

Peer-to-peer (P2P) communications have attracted a great deal of attention from the network research community in recent years. However, due to the fundamental limitations of wireless environments, providing reliable data availability for P2P applications over wireless ad hoc networks is still a major challenge. To address the problem, a distributed and randomised scheme based on self-avoiding walks is proposed. The scheme concatenates disparate network layers, with the goal of recovering from routing failures that disrupt P2P data accessibility. In addition, a probabilistic approach is presented that explores the tradeoffs between several system parameters. Some new analysis tools, such as path coupling, are utilised which provide a better understanding of the system's operations. That the proposed concepts and techniques make a significant contribution to the design of effective and efficient P2P applications in wireless ad hoc networks is believed.  相似文献

A mobile ad hoc network (MANET) is a wireless, dynamic, infrastructure-less, self-organized, multi-hop, and decentralized network. Each node in MANET can act as a router as well as a work station. Many routing protocols have been developed to increase the efficiency of MANET. The primary objective of this paper is a detailed QoS comparison of reactive (AODV), proactive (DSDV), and hybrid (ZRP) routing protocols of MANET in order to find which routing protocol works best in a particular network scenario. The analysis was made for TCP-based traffic patterns. The performance differentials were analyzed on the basis of normalized routing overhead, packet loss, packet delivery ratio, control packets, end-to-end delay, packet received, and packet sent with a variation of nodes density and mobility. It is widely believed that IEEE 802.11 standard is aimed mainly for fixed indoor wireless local area networks and is not suited for mobile applications, even though the IEEE 802.11b systems may work in either infrastructure mode or ad hoc mode. The impact of node mobility on ad hoc network performance has already been studied intensively, but these studies mostly do not consider temporal fluctuations of the mobile wireless channel due to the Doppler shift. An investigation of the mobility impact on the performance of IEEE 802.11b ad hoc systems with Rician/Rayleigh fading under different node velocities is presented. A comprehensive and in-depth analysis of the impacts of a multitude of different signal distortions on an IEEE 802.11b system performance is also presented. Specifically, the authors study the bit-error rate performances with respect to node velocities for different modulation schemes. The simulation results show that, owing to its extremely low implementation and deployment cost, the current IEEE 802.11b standard has its potential to be deployed in a mobile ad hoc environment if the line-of-sight path between transmitter and receiver exists.  相似文献

The authors propose a robust end-to-end loss differentiation scheme to identify the packet losses because of congestion for transport control protocol (TCP) connections over wired/wireless networks. The authors use the measured round trip time (RTT) values to determine whether the cause of packet loss is because of the congestion over wired path or regular bit errors over wireless paths. The classification should be as accurate as possible to achieve high throughput and maximum fairness for the TCP connections sharing the wired/wireless paths. The accuracies of previous schemes in the literature depends on varying network parameters such as RTT, buffer size, amount of cross traffic, wireless loss rate and congestion loss rate. The proposed scheme is robust in that the accuracy remains rather stable under varying network parameters. The basic idea behind the scheme is to set the threshold for the classification to be a function of the minimum RTT and the current sample RTT, so that it may automatically adapt itself to the current congestion level. When the congestion level of the path is estimated to be low, the threshold for a packet loss to be classified as a congestion loss is increased. This avoids unnecessary halving of the congestion window on packet loss because of the regular bit errors over the wireless path and hence improves the TCP throughput. When the congestion level of the path is estimated to be high, the threshold for a packet loss to be classified as the congestion loss not to miss any congestion loss is decreased and hence improves the TCP fairness. In ns 2 simulations, the proposed scheme correctly classifies the congestion losses under varying network parameters whereas the previous schemes show some dependency on subsets of parameters.  相似文献

A directional routing approach for multihop ad-hoc networks, is presented which has been applied to two on-demand routing protocols: namely dynamic source routing (DSR) and ad-hoc on-demand distance vector routing (AODV). Both DSR-based and AODV-based directional routing protocols are designed to balance the tradeoff between co-channel interferences from nodes hops away and the total power consumed by all the nodes. In order to select the best route, three metrics are considered in the route discovery process. They consist of hop count, power budget and overlaps between adjacent beams. By exploiting the direction of directional antennas, both routing protocols are capable of reducing overlaps between beams of the nodes along the route, thus eliminating interference. Arbitrary networks and random networks are considered in the simulations. The results show considerable performance gains for transmission of real-time traffic over ad hoc networks.  相似文献

Access to information services while on the move is becoming increasingly prevalent within transport systems. Whereas Internet access is now common place in trains, it still remains a challenge for vehicles, particularly when travelling through high speed motorways. Motorway vehicles equipped with wireless communication nodes form an ad hoc network have been examined by which data can be exchanged among them without the need for a pre-installed infrastructure. The main challenge with such an infrastructure-less network is developing communications and protocols that can deliver robust and reliable ad hoc communications between vehicles, when the relative speed between vehicles that can be extremely high under opposite traffic conditions. To address this opposite direction effect, a solution has been presented by minimising the effect of opposite traffic on routing packets. Firstly, a router direction index is introduced to enhance the performance of ad hoc on demand distance vector protocol in updating its routing table and secondly, a new queue priority mechanism is proposed which is based on cross-layer collaboration. Simulations were performed for an ad hoc network consisting of 200 vehicles driving with speeds between 90 and 120 km/h on a two-way motorway for different traffic loads sent through a Gateway adjacent to the motorway. The results obtained demonstrate a performance increase in the average data goodput and less routing overhead for the proposed solution  相似文献

Congestion control for streaming real-time applications, which need smoothness of the transmission rate, should be transmission control protocol (TCP)-friendly. Moreover, in wireless networks, TCP-friendly congestion control should be based on differentiation of packet losses due to congestion and wireless link error to improve network utilisation. The authors propose a TCP-friendly congestion control algorithm based on explicit congestion notification over the wireless networks. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm utilises the link bandwidth efficiently, providing smoothness of the transmission rate.  相似文献
