There has long been a need for a practical method of predicting the true cost of heating a house with solar energy and designing the heating system (solar and auxiliary) to achieve the minimum total annual heating cost possible under the particular climatic, geographic, and residential characteristics involved. Rough approximations based on various types of averaged values of weather and seasonal variables have previously been developed, but the reliability of such methods and results is open to question. The authors have therefore made a rigorous analysis of projected solar heating costs in eight U.S. cities and have optimized the heating system design in each location. The analysis involved the use of a high speed computer and approximately 400,000 hourly observations in eight cities of radiation, temperature, wind, solar altitude, cloud cover, and humidity. Equations for performance of flat plate solar collectors and sensible heat storage systems were developed and programmed with the above weather variables and with eight design parameters comprising house size, collector size, storage size, collector tilt, number of transparent surfaces in collector, hot water demand, insulation on storage unit, and thermal capacity of collector. Capital and operating costs were quantitatively related to heating system design parameters, and the values of all design variables which yielded lowest annual heating cost in each city were then selected. The findings are presented in the form of two tables and ten graphs, showing heating costs as functions of various design and location factors. The relative importance of each factor is discussed, and the overall costs of solar heating are compared with the costs of conventional heat supply in each location. The method for designing the least-cost combination of solar and conventional heat supplies is also shown, and an example of the use of the method is presented.  相似文献

This paper focuses on pump flow rate optimization for forced circulation solar water heating systems with pipes. The system consists of: an array of flat plate solar collectors, two storage tanks for the circulation fluid and water, a heat exchanger, two pumps, and connecting pipes. The storage tanks operate in the fully mixed regime to avoid thermal stratification. The pipes are considered as separated components in the system so as to account for their thermal effects. The objective is to determine optimal flow rates in the primary and secondary loops in order to maximize energy transfer to the circulation fluid storage tank, while reaching user defined temperatures in the water storage tank to increase thermal comfort. A model is developed using mainly the first and second laws of thermodynamics. The model is used to maximize the difference between the energy extracted from the solar collector and the combined sum of the energy extracted by the heat exchanger and corresponding energies used by the pumps in the primary and secondary loops. The objective function maximizes the overall system energy gain whilst minimizing the sum of the energy extracted by the heat exchanger and corresponding pump energy in the secondary loop to conserve stored energy and meet the user requirement of water tank temperatures. A case study is shown to illustrate the effects of the model. When compared to other flow control techniques, in particular the most suitable energy efficient control strategy, the results of this study show a 7.82% increase in the amount of energy extracted. The results also show system thermal losses ranging between 5.54% and 7.34% for the different control strategies due to connecting pipe losses.  相似文献

A computational simulation model for determining the thermal performance of large-scale community solar heating systems with interseasonal heat storage is described. Special attention has been paid to the mathematical formulation of the storage unit. It comprises an uninsulated stratified hot water tank excavated in rock. The storage capacity of the surrounding ground may also be utilized by vertical heat exchanger pipes. Comparisons of theoretical system performance predictions with recent experimental measurements from a full-scale prototype installation are presented and found to be in reasonable agreement. The simulation program is also used to evaluate the thermal performance of various district solar heating system configurations for northern cold climatic conditions (60°N).  相似文献

A novel loop heat pipe (LHP) solar water heating system for typical apartment buildings in Beijing was designed to enable effective collection of solar heat, distance transport, and efficient conversion of solar heat into hot water. Taking consideration of the heat balances occurring in various parts of the loop, such as the solar absorber, heat pipe loop, heat exchanger and storage tank, a computer model was developed to investigate the thermal performance of the system. With the specified system structure, the efficiency of the solar system was found to be a function of its operational characteristics - working temperature of the loop heat pipe, water flow rate across the heat exchanger, and external parameters, including ambient temperature, temperature of water across the exchanger and solar radiation. The relationship between the efficiency of the system and these parameters was established, analysed and discussed in detail. The study suggested that the loop heat pipe should be operated at around 72 °C and the water across the heat exchanger should be maintained at 5.1 l/min. Any variation in system structure, i.e., glazing cover and height difference between the absorber and heat exchanger, would lead to different system performance. The glazing covers could be made using either borosilicate or polycarbonate, but borosilicate is to be preferred as it performs better and achieves higher efficiency at higher temperature operation. The height difference between the absorber and heat exchanger in the design was 1.9 m which is an adequate distance causing no constraint to heat pipe heat transfer. These simulation results were validated with the primary testing results.  相似文献

This work presented the performance analysis of a solar parabolic concentrator prototype. The purpose of this paper is to achieve most quantity of vapor production with different water flows. The principal component of the solar concentrator is a new absorber concept that absorbs reflected solar rays and transports it to a heat exchanger in order to generate vapor. Climatic conditions, inlet/outlet oil temperatures of the tubular solar heat exchanger, water tank temperature, and inlet/outlet water temperatures of the mixed heat exchanger were recorded experimentally during three days in November 2018. The absorbed energy, losses energy, concentrated energy, and vapor heat energy of the system were determined. Results of this work, the solar system provides thermal energy efficiency varied from 60% to 70% and a concentration factor around 350 for three water mass flow rates. In this experiment, the optimum value of vapor mass is 6 kg/h with 0.016 kg/s of water flow. Consequently, to achieve the most quantity of vapor, the water flow should be decreased.  相似文献

This study deals with the energy and exergy analyses of natural circulation solar water heating (SWH) systems. The system comprises of a single glazed flat plate solar collector (FPSC) with absorber plate of 2 m2, and a separate insulated well-mixed vertical water storage tank (WST) of 125 liters. The variable heat transfer coefficients, water inlet and outlet temperatures of the FPSC; and temperature of heated water stored in the WST are predicted theoretically for each interval. The daily energy and exergy efficiency of the FPSC, WST and SWH system are estimated to be about 39 and 4.36%, 67 and 38.55%, 27 and 1.01%, respectively. It is found that the water inlet temperature, optical efficiency and the solar radiation strongly influence the performance of the FPSC both energetically and exergetically. It is observed that change in the mass flow rate of water improves the exergy efficiency of the FPSC significantly. FPSC has been identified as a critical component of the system where exergy destruction of 308 W/m2 takes place daily as compared to 24 W/m2 in the WST against available solar exergy of about 663 W/m2.  相似文献

This paper analyzes the technical and economic performance of solar heating systems that use vapor-compression cycles, circulating a compressible fluid as the working fluid. With conventional solar heating systems that use water or as their working fluid, the collector inlet temperature is equal to that of the storage outlet temperature. Operating the system on a cold day can result in large thermal losses to the surroundings and, thus, low useful heat gains. A vapor-compression cycle may be attractive because it allows the collector inlet temperature to be lowered so that the heat gain of the collector can be increased. Such a system is simulated and a preliminary economic analysis performed. The results indicate that the vapor-compression system can collect almost 50% more solar energy than a conventional system if the collector area of the two systems are the same.  相似文献

Central solar heating plants with seasonal storage in Germany   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5
In the house building sector, central solar heating plants presently offer the most cost-favourable application of all possibilities of solar-thermal systems. By the integration of seasonal heat storage, more than 50% of the annual heating demand for space heating and domestic hot water can be supplied by solar energy. Since 1995, eight central solar heating plants with seasonal heat storage have been built in Germany within the governmental R&D-programme ‘Solarthermie-2000’. This report describes the technology of central solar heating plants and gives advice about planning and costs. The pilot and demonstration plants for seasonal heat storage already built in Germany are described in detail to give an idea about possible system design and applications of central solar heating plants.  相似文献

In this study, the cylindrical phase change storage tank linked to a solar powered heat pump system is investigated experimentally and theoretically. A simulation model defining the transient behaviour of the phase change unit was used. In the tank, the phase change material (PCM) is inside cylindrical tubes and the heat transfer fluid (HTF) flows parallel to it. The heat transfer problem of the model (treated as two-dimensional) was solved numerically by an enthalpy-based finite differences method and validated against experimental data. The experiments were performed from November to May in the heating seasons of 1992–1993 and 1993–1994 to measure both the mean temperature of water within the tank and the inlet and outlet water temperature of the tank. The experimentally obtained inlet water temperatures are also taken as inlet water temperature of the simulated model. Thus, theoretical temperature and stored heat energy distribution within the tank have been determined. Solar radiation and space heating loads for the heating seasons mentioned above are also presented.  相似文献

The continuous increase in the level of greenhouse gas emissions and the rise in fuel prices are the main driving forces behind the efforts for more effectively utilize various sources of renewable energy. In many parts of the world, direct solar radiation is considered to be one of the most prospective sources of energy. In this study, the thermal performance of a phase change thermal storage unit is analyzed and discussed. The storage unit is a component of ten pieced solar air collectors heating system being developed for space heating of a greenhouse and charging of PCM. CaCl26H2O was used as PCM in thermal energy storage with a melting temperature of 29 °C. Hot air delivered by ten pieced solar air collector is passed through the PCM to charge the storage unit. The stored heat is utilized to heat ambient air before being admitted to a greenhouse. This study is based on experimental results of the PCM employed to analyze the transient thermal behavior of the storage unit during the charge and discharge periods. The proposed size of collectors integrated PCM provided about 18–23% of total daily thermal energy requirements of the greenhouse for 3–4 h, in comparison with the conventional heating device.  相似文献

Energy analysis of space solar dynamic heat receivers employing solid–liquid phase change storage is developed. The heat receiver is a critical component of a solar dynamic system. Phase change thermal energy storage is used in the heat receiver. The energy analysis presented here can be used to understand the energy transfer in the heat receiver and thermal energy storage in phase change materials (PCM). The heat receiver cavity radiation mathematical model and the working fluid tube heat model are established. Energy loss, energy absorbed by gas, the latent and sensible thermal energy storage in PCM, maximum tube temperature, gas outlet temperature and liquid PCM fraction were calculated. The results are analyzed and could be used in heat receiver design.  相似文献

A solar thermal cooling and heating system at Carnegie Mellon University was studied through its design, installation, modeling, and evaluation to deal with the question of how solar energy might most effectively be used in supplying energy for the operation of a building. This solar cooling and heating system incorporates 52 m2 of linear parabolic trough solar collectors; a 16 kW double effect, water-lithium bromide (LiBr) absorption chiller, and a heat recovery heat exchanger with their circulation pumps and control valves. It generates chilled and heated water, dependent on the season, for space cooling and heating. This system is the smallest high temperature solar cooling system in the world. Till now, only this system of the kind has been successfully operated for more than one year. Performance of the system has been tested and the measured data were used to verify system performance models developed in the TRaNsient SYstem Simulation program (TRNSYS). On the basis of the installed solar system, base case performance models were programmed; and then they were modified and extended to investigate measures for improving system performance. The measures included changes in the area and orientation of the solar collectors, the inclusion of thermal storage in the system, changes in the pipe diameter and length, and various system operational control strategies. It was found that this solar thermal system could potentially supply 39% of cooling and 20% of heating energy for this building space in Pittsburgh, PA, if it included a properly sized storage tank and short, low diameter connecting pipes. Guidelines for the design and operation of an efficient and effective solar cooling and heating system for a given building space have been provided.  相似文献

Finding the global optimal combination of the main components for a solar thermal energy system is an important topic in utilising solar radiation in a cost-effective way. However, selecting an optimal solar thermal system in a cold climate condition is a challenging task due to the dependency on the heat demand and the limited availability of solar radiation. This research presents several sets of optimum combinations of a solar thermal collector and a hot water storage tank regarding energy efficiency and the life cycle cost. Since domestic hot water consumption forms the significant part of the heat demand in new energy efficient apartment buildings, the applied consumption information were extracted precisely according to measured data. The solar thermal system with cost-optimal component sizes was able to save district heat energy consumption up 24% to 34% and made 4 €/m^2 to 23 €/m^2 in financial profit.  相似文献

An indirect forced circulation solar water heating systems using a flat-plate collector is modeled for domestic hot water requirements of a single-family residential unit in Montreal, Canada. All necessary design parameters are studied and the optimum values are determined using TRNSYS simulation program. The solar fraction of the entire system is used as the optimization parameter. Design parameters of both the system and the collector were optimized that include collector area, fluid type, collector mass flow rate, storage tank volume and height, heat exchanger effectiveness, size and length of connecting pipes, absorber plate material and thickness, number and size of the riser tubes, tube spacing, and the collector’s aspect ratio. The results show that by utilizing solar energy, the designed system could provide 83-97% and 30-62% of the hot water demands in summer and winter, respectively. It is also determined that even a locally made non-selective-coated collector can supply about 54% of the annual water heating energy requirement by solar energy.  相似文献

The development of efficient long-term heat storage systems could significantly increase the use of solar thermal energy for building heating. Among the different heat storage technologies, the absorption heat storage system seems promising for this application. To analyze the potential of this technology, a numerical model based on mass, species, energy, and exergy balances has been developed. The evolution over time of the storage imposes a transient approach. Simulations were performed considering temperature conditions close to those of a storage system used for space heating coupled to solar thermal collectors (as the heat source), with ground source heat exchangers (as the cold source). The transient behavior of the system was analyzed in both the charging and discharging phases. This analysis highlights the lowering of energetic and exergetic performance during both phases, and these phenomena are discussed. The thermal efficiency and the energy storage density of the system were determined, equal to 48.4 % and 263 MJ/m3, respectively. The exergetic efficiency is equal to 15.0 %, and the exergy destruction rate is 85.8 %. The key elements in terms of exergy destruction are the solution storage tank, the generator, and the absorber. The impact of using a solution heat exchanger (SHX) was studied. The risk of the solution crystallizing in the SHX was taken into account. With a SHX, the thermal efficiency of the system can reach 75 %, its storage density was 331 MJ/m3, and its exergetic efficiency and exergy destruction rate was 23.2 and 77.3 %, respectively.  相似文献

An absorption heat pump (AHP) is a heat driven heat pump utilizing the absorption process. A continuous, liquid absorbent AHP with chemical storage is modeled using mass and energy balances and assuming mass transfer equilibrium. This model is used with the TRNSYS program [5] to simulate the performance of an AHP in a residential solar-driven heating and cooling system. The effects of collector area for an AHP using the NaSCN---NH3 chemical system are investigated for the Columbia, MO, Madison, WI, and Fort Worth, TX climates. The AHP system is compared to a conventional solar heating and cooling system and the effects of heat exchanger effectiveness, storage mass, additional thermal capacitance and alternative control strategies are studied for the Columbia climate.  相似文献
