Summarization of text-based documents with a determination of latent topical sections and information-rich sentences

A method is proposed for use in summarization of text-based documents. By means of the method it is possible to discover latent topical sections and information-rich sentences. The underlying basis of the method — clustering of sentences — is formulated mathematically in the form of a problem of quadratic-type integer programming. An algorithm that makes it possible to determine with specified precision the optimal number of clusters is developed. The synthesis of a neural network is described for the purpose of solving a problem of integer quadratic programming.

以英汉机器翻译系统为研究背景,提出了一种基于规则的句子结构分析与转换方法。针对不同情况采取不同策略将复杂句分解成由一组简单句构成的复杂句子结构。简单句结构分析以谓语动词为中心,依据其EICG格约束和句子浅层分析结果填充格框架,从而得到整个句子的语法语义结构。句子结构转换依照句子分析结果和转换规则产生等价的目标语言的线性语法语义结构。系统运行结果表明,本文提出的方法能够正确有效地分析英语句子的结构并完成英汉句子的转换。

Idiom literality judgments in younger and older adults: Age-related effects in resolving semantic interference.

To study age effects in the resolution of idiomatic semantic ambiguity, we focus on decomposability, the extent to which a literal reading of an idiom's words shares meaning with its figurative interpretation. Younger and older adults judged whether decomposable and nondecomposable idioms and nonidioms had a literal interpretation. Older adults were slower at making literality judgments and more sensitive to conflicts between literal and figurative meanings. The results support claims of decompositional analysis of idioms during later processing stages and of obligatory activation of figurative meanings. Information processing speed and sentence comprehension in Parkinson's disease.

This study tests the hypothesis that sentence comprehension difficulty in Parkinson's disease (PD) is related in part to altered information processing speed that plays a crucial role in grammatical processing. The authors measured information processing speed in 32 PD patients without dementia using a lexical list-priming paradigm in which the interstimulus interval (ISI) between the prime and the target varied. Sentence comprehension accuracy was also assessed in 22 of these patients. Sentence comprehension accuracy for object-relative center-embedded sentences was impaired in a subgroup of PD patients. This subgroup of PD patients primed at an abnormally long ISI. Similarly, only PD patients who primed at a long ISI had greater difficulty understanding sentences with an object-relative clause than a subject-relative clause. Repetition deficits, list context, and word-class interactions in the RSVP of words in sentences.

Reports a failure to find a repetition deficit in recall following the rapid serial visual presentation (RSVP) of words within sentences, using adjectives rather than nouns as the critical items. In a series of experiments that ruled out participant and procedural differences as the source of the failure, both word class and list context were found to moderate the repetition deficit, but grammatical necessity did not. The presence in the list of sentences in which the repeated adjectives were separated by more than three words not only eliminated the repetition deficit for the recall of those sentences but also for the recall of sentences in which the repeated adjectives were separated by three or fewer words. However, although substantially reduced, a repetition deficit with noun-based materials was still found in this list context. Matching the adjective-based sentences with the noun-based sentences in sentence length and position of the critical items revealed that the moderating effect of word-class on the repetition deficit was mediated by the biases in sentence structure that using different word classes tend to induce.
