The quality of the micromechanical retention between the enamel prisms exposed through acid etching and adhesive system can be influenced by the relationship between the angle of the exposed enamel prisms and the external surface/restorative material. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to determine the influence of the enamel cavosurface beveling in different cavity sizes on the angle relation between enamel prisms and the restorative material. For this research, 30 human permanent molars were used and divided into three groups according the isthmus aperture of class I cavities (1/4, 1/3, and 1/2 of the intercuspal distance). Cavosurface angle beveling was performed in each tooth buccal or palatal/lingual side, and a resin composite restoration was placed. Each restored tooth was sectioned in buccal/palatal direction followed by analysis in scanning electron microscope. Means of the angles observed between enamel prisms and the restorative material were registered and statistically analyzed by Kruskal‐Wallis test. Results showed higher mean angle values for beveled groups when comparing with the values observed in the unbeveled margins (p < .05) regardless of the isthmus aperture, being 1/4 (beveled = 48.36°; unbeveled = 20.71°), 1/3 (beveled = 39.75°; unbeveled = 29.15°), and 1/2 (beveled = 37.02°; unbeveled = 26.34°). It was also observed that in some unbeveled cavities, there were the presence of laterally exposed enamel prisms (0°), mainly in more conservative cavities. Stickinessis an inherent textural property in many sugar-rich foods, which can be problematic to the processing of confectionery products. The adhesion between foods and contact surfaces during processing and consumption has not been well understood in academia or industry. The theories of adhesion were discovered by scientists in the adhesive field of study, some of which can explain the stickiness phenomenon of confections. This work reviewed these theories in the context of sugar-rich foods, followed by a survey on the sensory and instrumental analyses of stickiness. A silicon/diamond-like carbon (Si/DLC) multilayer nanocomposite coating (MNC) was applied to the Ti–29Nb–13Ta?4.6Zr (TNTZ) alloy to improve its wear resistance and durability. The Si/DLC MNC on the TNTZ alloy demonstrated an extremely low wear rate of 6.2 × 10?10 mm3N?1mm?1. Moreover, the wear track depth after one million wear cycles was found to be only 220 nm, while the thickness of the entire coating was 370 nm. Furthermore, cell culture tests demonstrated that the Si/DLC MNC samples exhibited better biocompatibility than the TNTZ alloy samples. A quantitative comparison of the cell adhesion behavior of the TNTZ and Si/DLC MNC samples indicated that 60% of the surface of the Si/DLC MNC sample was covered with cells, which was approximately twice the surface of the TNTZ alloy sample covered with cells. In addition, no dead cells were observed on the Si/DLC MNC samples, indicating that the Si/DLC MNC samples exhibited no toxic effects against the MC3T3 cells. These results indicate that the Si/DLC MNC enhances the wear resistance of the TNTZ alloy and improves its biofunctionality, thus making it a potential candidate for use in long-term implant applications. 相似文献

Dynamic pull-in/pull-off forces were quantitatively measured using an AFM colloidal probe technique. Two spherical colloids made of silicon dioxide (SiO2) and gold (Au) that were attached to an AFM cantilever were approached to and retracted from a silicon wafer specimen, where the speed of tip approaching/retracting (i.e., vertical dynamics) and specimen sliding (i.e., horizontal dynamics) was controlled. First, when the vertical dynamics of colloidal tip was applied on the stationary silicon wafer specimen, it was observed that the slower tip approaching showed higher pull-in force, while the pull-off force was dependent on both the applied force and the retracting speed. For the two colloidal tips, it was found that the higher applied force and the faster tip retraction led to the higher pull-off force. Next, under the constant speed of tip approach and retraction, horizontal dynamics was applied to the silicon wafer specimen. It was observed that the horizontal motion of the specimen made the pull-off force lower, which could be attributed to the breakage of adhesive asperity junctions at the interface. The pull-off force was further decreased at faster horizontal motion of the specimen due to the longer sliding distance. Therefore, from the systematic experiments of dynamic adhesion measurement, it could be known that if a micro/nano-system is under dynamic surface interaction, its adhesive force cannot be fully described by a conventional quasi-static adhesion model but it should include the effects of applied system dynamics in both normal and tangential directions. 相似文献

Tribological contacts in sheet metal forming are accompanied by several wear phenomena. One of which is the transfer of material from the softer sheet material to the harder tool surface, namely adhesive wear. Forming of aluminum alloys makes high demands on forming processes. Aluminum alloys show a strong tendency of adhesion on common tool materials. Adhesions on tools reduce the surface quality, the dimensional accuracy of the parts and the process stability. In order to avoid adhesive wear during forming, nowadays a high amount of lubricant is applied to the aluminum sheets. Though economically and ecologically attractive, dry forming processes with aluminum sheets seem not to be possible. In order to develop advantageous tribological systems a comprehensive understanding of the acting mechanisms is necessary. The surface energies of pristine multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and MWCNTs functionalized with carboxylic acid (MWCNT-COOH), acyl chloride and ethyl amine were characterized, and the effects of the changes in MWCNT surface energies on the interfacial adhesion and reinforcement of the composites were explored. When the surface energy of pristine MWCNTs was compared to that of functionalized MWCNTs, a decrease in the dispersive surface energy and an increase in the polar surface energy were observed. Interfacial adhesion energies between MWCNTs and various polymers were estimated from surface energy values of MWCNTs and various polymers. Among the MWCNTs, polyethylene, polystyrene and bisphenol-A polycarbonate (PC) had the highest interfacial energy with pristine MWCNTs, while nylon 6,6 and polyacrylamine exhibited the highest interfacial energy with MWCNT-COOH. When tensile properties and adhesion at the interface of PC and nylon 6,6 composites containing MWCNTs were examined, composites having high interfacial adhesion energy exhibited greater adhesion at the interface and reinforcement. 相似文献
