Fabrication process for picoliter volume SiO2 glass tube array partially embedded in Si wafer was developed. As a template for the glass tubes, macropore array was formed at the surface of n-Si(1 0 0) wafer by photo-assisted electrochemical etching process. The area-selective formation of the array was achieved by applying Au/Cr micropatterns formed at the back-side surface of the substrate as the shade mask, which controls the illumination condition to optimize the etching reaction conditions. Subsequently, surface of the macropores was wet-thermally oxidized to form glass layer, and the bulk Si region was removed by alkaline etching, remaining the “glass tubes”. As a result of complete removal of the bulk Si, released glass tubes were obtained. By partial removal of the bulk Si part, the glass tubes were exposed, fixed in the remaining Si substrate in the form of well-ordered array. It was confirmed that the depth, the exposed region and the wall thickness of each glass tube were controllable by adjusting the parameters such as the duration of the Si electrochemical etching, the alkaline etching and the wet-thermal oxidation, respectively. In order to demonstrate microreaction in the glass tube, aqueous rhodamine B solution was injected into the tubes and excitation light was irradiated to them. As a result, the fluorescence of rhodamine B was clearly detected, confirming the applicability of the glass tubes for various kinds of devices and systems such as microreactors. 相似文献

Suitable catalysts for the decomposition of methane into carbon and hydrogen and for the regeneration of methane by hydrogenation of the carbon have been looked for in a series of transition metals and precious metals supported on various carriers. The most active catalyst for both reactions was Ni/SiO2. The carbon formed on this catalyst was thermodynamically less stable than graphite. The different rate equations for the decomposition of methane obtained for the fresh and carbon deposited Ni/SiO2 suggest that the rate-determining steps are different for the two catalysts. The highest number of carbon atoms deposited per one Ni atom was 31 at 773 K. However, the number of methane molecules recovered easily at 773 K was limited to 1.5 per Ni atom.
A physical mixture of Ni/SiO2 and CaNi5, a hydrogen-absorbing alloy, enhanced the decomposition rate of methane, enabling the complete conversion of methane at 773 K beyond the thermodynamic limitation. The presence of CaNi5 at 273 K separated from the catalyst in a reaction system further enhanced the decomposition of methane due to an increased hydrogen-absorbing capacity of the CaNi5 at low temperatures. The carbon deposited on Ni/SiO2 in this case was reactive to be hydrogenated back to methane at 773 K, giving an average 7.5 CH4 molecules per one Ni atom. 相似文献

Changes in the crystal structure of type 430 stainless steel and the oxides on its surface were studied in situ at 1373 K using a high-intensity synchrotron X-ray source provided by SPring-8 in Japan. The surface of the steel was initially covered with Cr2O3, which was then converted to FeCr2O4, and finally Fe3O4 and Fe2O3 formed on it. These results indicated that the reason for the breakaway oxidation in type 430 stainless steel is Cr depletion beneath Cr2O3 layer and the subsequent ionisation of Fe, not the simple mechanical failure of Cr2O3. 相似文献

Fundamental photocatalytic behaviors were investigated for mechanical mixtures of TiO2 crystalline particles (P25) and MFI type zeolite (silicalite) in the decomposition reaction of 2-propanol vapor in air for the first time. Mechanical mixing enables reliable comparisons to be made between photocatalysts because the contents of TiO2 and the adsorbent can be widely varied (51 times in this study) while keeping the particle size and crystallinity of TiO2 unchanged. That is, the use of mechanical mixture highlights the behavior of molecules adsorbed in the microporous crystals, keeping the TiO2 unchanged. In the case of the mixed photocatalysts, the initial 2-propanol concentration in the gas phase was significantly reduced because of adsorption into the zeolite. After photo-irradiation started, 2-propanol was decomposed to CO2 with no (or trace amount of) acetone detected in the gas phase. The analysis of final amount of CO2 formed by the decomposition demonstrated that just by the mechanical mixing of TiO2 and zeolite, the TiO2 photocatalyst decomposed completely the reactant and intermediate molecules strongly adsorbed into the zeolite. On the other hand, in reference experiments in which TiO2 and zeolite were not mixed and were separately placed in a photoreactor, the organic compounds strongly adsorbed in the zeolite could not be decomposed to CO2 by the photocatalyst. It is notable that the CO2 formation rates for the mixed photocatalysts were mostly constant for those comprising 40 wt% or larger amounts of zeolite, while being slower than for pure TiO2. The rate-determining step was discussed based on these data. The present study showed that the mixed photocatalyst could remove organic vapors by adsorption in the dark and decompose completely to CO2 at moderate reaction rates under photo-irradiation with minimized evolution of intermediate molecules into the gas phase. 相似文献

Stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in the fusion boundary (FB) region of an Alloy 182-A533B low alloy steel (LAS) dissimilar weld joint in high temperature water doped with sulfate was studied following a microstructure characterization of the FB region. The microstructure characterization suggested the type-II and type-I boundaries in the dilution zone (DZ) adjacent to the FB had lower resistance to SCC growth than the FB. Chronic infections are considered one of the most severe problems in skin wounds, and bacteria are present in over 90% of chronic wounds. Pseudomonas aeruginosa is frequently isolated from chronic wounds and is thought to be a cause of delayed wound healing. Invariant natural killer T (iNKT) cells, unique lymphocytes with a potent regulatory ability in various inflammatory responses, accelerate the wound healing process. In the present study, we investigated the contribution of iNKT cells in the host defense against P. aeruginosa inoculation at the wound sites. We analyzed the re-epithelialization, bacterial load, accumulation of leukocytes, and production of cytokines and antimicrobial peptides. In iNKT cell–deficient (Jα18KO) mice, re-epithelialization was significantly decreased, and the number of live colonies was significantly increased, when compared with those in wild-type (WT) mice on day 7. IL-17A, and IL-22 production was significantly lower in Jα18KO mice than in WT mice on day 5. Furthermore, the administration of α-galactosylceramide (α-GalCer), a specific activator of iNKT cells, led to enhanced host protection, as shown by reduced bacterial load, and to increased production of IL-22, IL-23, and S100A9 compared that of with WT mice. Cyclodextrins (CyDs) are water-soluble host molecules possessing a nanosized hydrophobic cavity. In the realm of molecular recognition, this cavity is used not only as a recognition site but also as a reaction medium, where a hydrophobic sensor recognizes a guest molecule. Based on the latter concept, we have designed a novel supramolecular sensing system composed of Zn(II)-dipicolylamine metal complex-based azobenzene (1-Zn) and 3A-amino-3A-deoxy-(2AS,3AS)-γ-cyclodextrin (3-NH2-γ-CyD) for sensing adenosine-5′-triphosphate (ATP). 1-Zn showed redshifts in the UV-Vis spectra and induced circular dichroism (ICD) only when both ATP and 3-NH2-γ-CyD were present. Calculations of equilibrium constants indicated that the amino group of 3-NH2-γ-CyD was involved in the formation of supramolecular 1-Zn/3-NH2-γ-CyD/ATP. The Job plot of the ICD spectral response revealed that the stoichiometry of 1-Zn/3-NH2-γ-CyD/ATP was 2:1:1. The pH effect was examined and 1-Zn/3-NH2-γ-CyD/ATP was most stable in the neutral condition. The NOESY spectrum suggested the localization of 1-Zn in the 3-NH2-γ-CyD cavity. Based on the obtained results, the metal coordination interaction of 1-Zn and the electrostatic interaction of 3-NH2-γ-CyD were found to take place for ATP recognition. The “reaction medium approach” enabled us to develop a supramolecular sensing system that undergoes multi-point interactions in water. We have developed a three-dimensional clothed human thermal model for predicting physiological responses to temperature and humidity within clothing by considering the thermal properties of fabrics, clothing ensembles, and their designs. The model is a coupled simulation system of a human thermal model and a clothing thermal model. The model performance was investigated by comparing its predictions with experimental data. The following results were obtained. (1) The model predictions of skin temperature distributions and the micro-climate within clothing basically agreed with experimental data. (2) The skin temperatures of clothed body parts were higher than the corresponding body parts in the nude condition, and the skin temperatures of the hand and foot were higher than those in the nude condition, both in the model predictions and in the experimental data. This study investigates the presence of undeclared allergens - namely milk, egg, wheat and peanut - in commercial processed food products in Thailand. Out of 142 commercial products, 55 positive cases were found (by quantitative ELISA method) to contain an undeclared allergen greater than 10 ppm. Among all positive products, undeclared milk appeared the most frequently (21 cases), followed by egg and wheat with similar frequency (17 cases), while peanut was rarely found. Milk- or egg-positive products were further confirmed by the presence of the milk protein, casein, or the egg protein, ovalbumin, by Western blot test. Our results should help to increase the awareness among Thai food manufacturers of the need for more careful management of allergenic food ingredients, and to encourage the labeling of allergen information for allergic consumers, thus reducing the health hazard from food allergy. 相似文献
